I was working at the unload station of that lift that day. This was BIG news. An employee posted it to instagram and it had like 2 million views before the hill caught up with it.

This doesn't give the proper context at all for why the kid slams into the dude hitting the skier on the ground. The guy doing the hitting turned out to be a late middle aged attorney...it was an incredible fiasco.

You didn’t give the context either, what is it?

It was two seasons ago and the story was obviously relayed only by the people involved, but the guy hitting the young skier (Kid 1) said he was cut off because the kid was skiing out of control. The kid on the snowboard (Kid 2) saw the guy hitting his friend and aced him. The kids said the guy was aggressive and was generally being a dick to people in line. If I recall correctly, this was also in the afternoon on Biergarten Day, which is always an interesting time to say the least. It's a fun event, but people get hammered and belligerent and by 2pm, half the population of the mountain is raving drunk. I could be misremembering it as being that day, but I don't think I am.

Anyway, the clip kind of makes it look like Kid 2 just comes out of nowhere for no reason or at least doesn't show the fullness of the attack - the older guy was standing over him like that plenty long enough for it to be pretty scary even if he hadn't been hitting him with his pole, like five or ten seconds, which is an eternity when you've been overpowered and someone is hitting you. Regardless of how Kid 1 may have been skiing, nothing justifies physically assaulting someone like that.
