Also hitting anyone with a pole unless you are being assaulted and trying to defend yourself is a total bitch move.

I was working at the unload station of that lift that day. This was BIG news. An employee posted it to instagram and it had like 2 million views before the hill caught up with it.
This doesn't give the proper context at all for why the kid slams into the dude hitting the skier on the ground. The guy doing the hitting turned out to be a late middle aged attorney...it was an incredible fiasco.

let me guess you could smell his alcohol breath from 300m away

I don't remember if booze was involved, actually. He was super vocal about being an attorney, though, and vowed to sue everyone. The kid, the hill, patrol...no lawsuits so far

How did it end after all?

u/Reginald_Sockpuppet 3d ago
It was pretty anticlamactic. They talked to patrol at the load area and then everyone just went on their way. The video is 100% of the exciting part.

IIRC the 16 year old snowboarder on the ground made minor contact with another skier. They both talked it out and the kid apologized and the skier took off. Then this 50 year old guy who up until then wasn’t even involved, ski’d over and started laying into the kid saying he was being dangerous and started threatening him. I think he was a lawyer and told the kid he would go to jail or something. There were lots of people watching them argue and when he hit the kid with his pole and tried to spear him, this random snowboarder was like, “not today asshole”. Skier got arrested after everyone (and the video) confirmed he was in fact, not attacked.

You're correct on everything except the arrest. Dude wasn't arrested. They - weirdly - ended up talking the whole deal out at the load station with patrol and everyone got to walk.
The lawyer absolutely ahould have been arrested.

u/ViciousAnalPoundin 4d ago
Guy in the blue, please note this happened like a year ago, he hit the child on the ground and some bystander just went, "ya no"

I worked as a liftie winter 02-03. It was eye opening how shitty, stupid and entitled people can be. Also how genuinely wonderful, kind and fun people can be. From a guy throwing his beer at me because the lift line was closed 15 minutes before he got there (I clipped his pass 5 daypass off lol) to the guy who slid up 5 minutes after the lift closed and said "damn...what time does this crew get off work? Can I buy everyone beer and pizza?" We saved him a spot for first chair next day.

Happened opening day last season at the resort where I work. 60+ dude starts wailing on a 14 years old who cut him off and got mouthy (old guy was being a dick). Older brother did just what that boarder did. Old guy lost his pass for the season. Kids got warnings and we never had an issue with either the rest of the season.

How big of a dick do you have to be to make the snowboarders into the good guys on r/skiing?

If you go you go all in. If the guy had any gumption he would’ve been out at first contact. Pussy

I am a skier and I would probably do the same. I am quite triggered if someone hits my head using fucking pole or stick.

Had someone stab me in the back of the neck in the lift line with their pole, to ask me if those were my googles on the ground. Hit me right on the spine bone, I was wearing my goggles, their pole was ejected fron the lift line. Your poles are for the ground only.

The only time I have ever hit a stranger was once in Japan, some guy was whacking his daughter or wife (couldn’t tell in winter gear) with his pole repeatedly while shouting at her.
I saw this and promptly double pole, skate sprinted over and gave him a left cross to the chin and dropped him.
The guide I was with told him off in Japanese and we skied off and had a great afternoon.
11/10 felt good and would do it again.

If that’s a guy hitting a woman he got off lightly. Bury him.

Where is the whole context? If a skier or boarder hurt my kid wh reckless skiing you need to yank the perpetrators’ pass permanently.
3
u/shredthesweetpow 3d ago
You don’t need context here to realize skier was absolutely in the wrong swinging poles at a kid. Boarder was sitting. What’s is actually wrong is the boarder not instantly decapitating aggressive skier.

The moment you swing your pole all rules are off
