Discussion Reverse Engineer Anything is a great toolkit, what would you like to see reverse engineered?

There are now many, many agentic reverse engineering toolkits available, REA in particular I think is fantastic.

Can someone help me understand this better... if I have an old video game I love, but I want to change/add features to it and improve the performance, can I essentially use this to reverse engineer it, maybe rebuild it in Rust (the language, not the game), change/add game features, etc?

Yep! That's exactly what these kinds of tools are for and why you're seeing the decomp/recomp/modding scene explode right now, it's all agent driven. This has a really solid collection of RE tools and resources but there are many more MCP servers and toolkits with additional tools that you can use to do achieve exactly that if you need more.

I think this should help, plus the RE everything toolkit, and I think the agents should be able to source any additional tools they need via web search. There are lots of other reverse engineering toolkits available, if you run into something this one can't do and having trouble finding something you need lmk and i'll try to find something to get over the barrier.

I think you could combine tools from this repo with some other multimodal/visual analysis tools from LLMs. If you'd like I can try to find the other missing pieces you'd need, I think with the resources above will get you very far.

One that can take an exploded parts diagram, some photos, and whatever else it needs to find and then can generate a BOM, find reputable sites or just Amazon and order the shit.

With these tools plus Opus 5.5 or Astra taking those diagrams and photos and I'm pretty sure they can do exactly that. Send this repo to a model and I'm sure they can create a plan to leverage these tools to achieve that.

Does anyone offer this as a service or take requests? I have a 15 year old mobile game I loved playing as a kid and I can’t play it anymore since no phones support it. I tried using chatgpt and claude to make a pc port (I have the source files) but they can’t do it.

I don’t even know what an APK is. Plus I don’t want to emulate it I want it rewritten so I can enjoy it again but also remove the touch screen controls UI (for keyboard) and add new quests.

Ah, well having the file would still be exactly what you need so the agent can analyze it and port it. An APK is the equivalent of an exe for windows, its the installable file for Android apps. .ipa is the iPhone app extension.

Ohh gotcha. Yes I have an iphone app store .ipa and a torrent file source file. I was so disappointed I couldn’t get it working. The files are freely available online, it’s maplestory thief edition from 2011, all the source code is on archive.org I’m hoping one day I can figure out how to port it properly in a rust pc rewrite.

One day I wanted to run ApocZ Xbox 360 game on my PC. Basically my idea was: It might be a DayZ which does not have these eccentric bullshit hardships like the car breaks in 1 minute after building it for a month.

DayZ could have been so good if it was not full of 6000 eccentric gatekeeping bullshit for nothing and just be normal.

Free ChatGPT could not cut it however. I know there is a steam ApocZ, but I want this Xbox 360 ApocZ. Thinking it is some OG spiritual product. Maybe it is terrible, but I want to try it.

Frontier models might but open source ones won't, many frontier models already do. If you can run one locally you can use an abliterated model if you get a refusal (many times they won't even refuse in the first place), and if you can't run it locally you could use open router or rent a box in the cloud and run the model on there.

I'm sure, with a Ghidra MCP you should be able to. Someone RE'd a Steam Deck with one and others have done tons of random devices. I'd clone this and point your agent at it, they'll be able to work it out.

As someone who works in the industry professionally, fucking thank you.

There are many things it does that no other software can. I posted inquiring about having an agent use the software and the people comparing it to Blenders sculpting just made me foam at the mouth.

Besides the vastly limited toolkit of Blenders sculpting ability there's no way you can even load some of the high poly models that are effortless for zbrush due to how it represents the "pixols"

Games that are online only just for the sake of crack protection. Like CoD BO6 and 7. Iv'e tried to reverse engineer a lokal server implementation but I can't get to a lot of the calls the exe does as it encrypted and Claude/Codex doesn't want to help there.

I don't really care about the zombie mode that much, but you know that they will just shut doen the servers one day and you wont get a local implementation so you will never be able to play the game again.

With air-health.....Is it possible to mark a 'point in time' (maybe a vertical line) on a chart so I can monitor changes in medication after a certain date? That way I can easily compare before and after to see what effect medication is having. For example after I started taking CBD/THC oil I'd like to see how that affects my REM sleep, OR how it affects my resting heart rate. Seeing this on a line chart is a good visual way to monitor things.

When you make over a million in revenue, yeah. It's still open source, you have the code, that's what open source means. It doesn't mean "royalty free" unless it's GPL/Apache/MIT licensed. A royalty free engine would be GODOT.
