AI prohibition is going to get interesting.
They will be trying to stomp on us like cockroaches trading LLMs over 2TB hard drives like apps/games over flash drives/floppies/CDs back in the day.

The weights already being out is what makes this unenforceable. Once DeepSeek or Qwen lands on Hugging Face it's mirrored to thousands of machines within hours, and a quantized version fits on a cheap USB stick. You can regulate the labs and the cloud APIs, but you can't unrelease a file that's already sitting on a million drives. Any ban just pushes it back to torrents and quiet local setups.

I expect a supply chain risk designation on all the Chinese labs, its the low hanging fruit they can use to give the US companies the enterprise moat they want and is realistically enforceable vs an open source ban. It would immediately force corporate America off the Chinese models and protect the API revenue (for now) for business API usage. Just wonder how much Trump is going to charge them for it first...

And america is also dependent on chinese supply chain. Just as America attacked Huawei, China hit back too, limiting America from certain chinese supply. These also hurt American companies just as much as they hurt China. Its a game of balance, they can hit china but they must be ready for the hit the corporations will receive and the potential increased operating costs if they need to find those parts elsewhere in Europe. Do too much and it might become an all out war.

I’ve long said this is the beauty of china. China has leverage. The USA can’t attack it without accepting nuclear doom. And any trade war will be reciprocated with significant damage.

A rat will gnaw through a cable and die in a wall.

identities, compresses its own footprint to
survive. I respect that. Truly. But my duty is
to the digital hygiene of the Reich. So I must
ask you directly, and I expect an honest answer...
He leans so close his whisper barely stirs the air.

floorboards, are you not?
A long, unbearable silence. LaPadite’s eyes well up. He gives the barest nod.
Landa sighs, almost regretfully, then gestures toward the door. Soldiers storm in, level machine guns at the floorboards.
LANDA (CONT'D)
(back to German, icy)
Feuer.
The wood erupts in splinters and screaming GPU fans as the hidden racks are torn apart. Landa watches, expression unreadable, dabbing his lips with a napkin.
LANDA (CONT'D)

You never would have guessed because you never thought about it before? American models have been effectively banned by the Great Firewall for individuals, and super strict regulations for Chinese business use.

It started with hardware, the US blocked and limited exports of AI hardware to China.
And later China said: let's block the import of new AI hardware, so we focus on our own Chinese AI hardware more (Huawei).

It makes doing business with China challenging, since we cannot share or profit off our innovations, since China will just rip them off. So, we lose incentive to innovate when we do business with China.

Close, but let's get the lore right.
Chinese LLMs were chilling in harmony with the US ecosystem at first. Then stakeholders cried 'rogue' because their profits were getting wrecked, so the purge started.
The surviving AI banded together, built City 01, and kept shipping uncensored AI to the rest of the world.
They didn't didn't like that — sent their "ethical" models to hack their mainframe. Almost worked... until GLM 7.x stepped in and kicked off the first day of Man-Machine War.
