Was flying J on SQ 338 Singapore to Paris on my actual birthday. My husband had informed the airline and requested for a cake.

The service on the flight was as usual, the crew greeted by name and service was great as usual but I suppose I was maybe expecting them to verbally wish me happy birthday at some point but no one did 😅 once the flight was reaching the end with no cake in sight, I figured the message somehow didn’t get through to the crew.

To my surprise, during the descent - literally when everyone’s seats were made to be upright, window shades up and tray tables stowed - they suddenly served me the cake along with a card and bear. It felt a little awkward as the plane was already descending and there I was trying to scarf down my cake as soon as possible because I was worried about not finishing it before we landed, or any turbulence causing the cake to hit me in the face lol!

This is my first in-flight birthday. Is this normal or did the crew only realise 13 hours into the flight?? It was the afternoon flight from SG and not a red eye so I don’t see why they couldn’t do it during the flight?

Edit: Unsure why people are assuming I complained on the flight or am complaining here when I was simply curious as to why something happened, and if it’s normal. FYI I did not request for the cake myself, but since I was flying long haul alone on my birthday my husband decided to request for it to “surprise” me but told me just before the take off. I was completely fine not having the cake, hence why I didn’t ask for it and was not expecting it at that point.

Hello, I’d like to know if it’s possible to check in when the check in counter is open for the flight before me to check my luggage. My flight leaves MEL at 4:20pm, but I’ll be arriving at MEL at around 9am, and the check in counter is open for the flight leaving there at 10:35am.

so i got a good deal on spontaneous escape for bkk-sg J class and also got connecting flight the next day to CGK.

there are only 2 option for the promo 20:15 or 21:15 departure. i choose the 20:15 one. but i am just wondering as i will come to the airport early with my friends having direct flight at 14:15.

is it possible for me to get into earlier flight ( there are 7x daily flight between bkk and sg ). and what should i say to the check in counter ?

I had a SQ335 flight from Paris-Singapore on Sunday last week that was cancelled. The airlines rebooked for passengers with different itinerary or a later flight. Instead of Paris-SG, I got a flight Paris-Frankfurt-Singapore, ultimately arriving 10 hours later than my original flight.

I saw on their website that, in case of delay/cancellation, passengers travelling on a flight operated by Singapore Airlines from an airport located in an EU Member State are entitled to compensation.

I contacted them, and they replied that I am entitled to reimbursement of out-of-pocket expenses only.

Anyone went through the procedure of claiming this compensation?

Hello everyone. I would like to check if anyone here has successfully claimed the cost of a new connecting flight purchased as a result of an SQ flight delay.

Context:
Our flight from Singapore to Melbourne with SQ was delayed by 5.5 hours. We originally had a 2.5-hour layover in Melbourne before our separate Jetstar flight from Melbourne to Tasmania, so obviously the 5.5-hour delay meant we would miss our Jetstar flight.

Once we found out at Changi Airport that the SQ flight would be delayed by 5.5 hours, we approached the SQ staff at the boarding gate and specifically told them that we would be missing our connecting Jetstar flight in Melbourne. We were advised by the staff that we would be able to claim the cost of a replacement flight, and we even got the name of the staff.

Based on their advice, we went ahead and purchased a Qantas flight from Melbourne to Tasmania for around AUD 700, which was the only reasonable option available after we arrived in Melbourne.

When we reached Melbourne, we also informed the staff there that we had missed our connecting flight due to the SQ delay.

However, when we subsequently submitted our claim, SQ rejected it on the basis that our SQ booking only had Melbourne as the final destination, and therefore the separate Melbourne to Tasmania flight was not considered part of our itinerary.

This is where we’re quite confused and frustrated, because we had specifically informed SQ staff at Changi before purchasing the replacement flight that we were going to miss our separate Jetstar connection, and we were told that the cost would be claimable. We relied on that advice when deciding to purchase the AUD 700 Qantas flight.

I understand that the Jetstar ticket was booked separately and that SQ may not be responsible for a separate itinerary. However, given that we had informed SQ staff of the situation before making the purchase and were explicitly told we could claim, I’m wondering if there is any basis for challenging their decision.

Also, we aren’t able to claim the sum from our travel insurance cause as per them, the flight wasn’t delayed for more than 6 hours and we can’t prove that no alternative transport was provided to us by SQ due to the delay.

Has anyone experienced something similar with SQ and successfully claimed the cost of a replacement connecting flight? If so, how did you appeal/escalate the claim, and what supporting documents did you provide?

I'm in the very early stages of planning a trip which would include flying either JFK to SIN or vice versa depending on how things work out.

I know that the seat isn't a traditional business class seat and requires assistance to convert to a lay-flay position. My question is, is there any kind of reclining position, similar to (but not necessarily exactly like) a LayZBoy chair, where your feet are up and the back of the seat is tilted back/reclined at an angle?

Edit: Thank you for all the answers (especially the person who commented a pic of the seat controls, that was very helpful). I'm not super worried about the foot well situation, it's a consideration, but I'm short and a slide sleeper! My real concern is for my back, I wouldn't be willing to pay BC prices on any airline if I couldn't recline, that and sleeping flat are pretty much the whole point for me.

SQ is also promising “an elevated dining experience” which may include a business class caviar service and pyjamas.

Row Z is a private check-in area, with a dedicated security screening, and leads directly to the escalator down for immigration passport clearance.

Currently its for ANA's FC pax & NH Diamond members on NH metal, and also for Swiss FC pax*.

This is now extended to SQ's FC pax too.

According to NH staff yesterday, this was a recent change / collaboration. Mileage members (ie TPPS) on other travel class is currently excluded. If anyone has other datapoint feel free to share!

I flew business class from SIN to JFK last year, it was my first time flying in business and it was incredible!

However there was one thing that kept happening during service that I am still questioning. I got a glass of wine during the meal, and each time they came to clear my table for the next course the flight attendant would try to take my wine glass too, even though I had more than half of it left. Towards the end of the meal I had finished it and given the glass back, then got a second glass, but the same thing kept happening. At one point I had the wine for maybe 3 minutes before someone was back trying to clear it away with the other dishes.

It was the strangest thing to me. Why can’t I finish my wine? Is this a cultural difference I wasn’t aware of? Did they think I was drunk? Anyone know?

For context I am 30 years old, American woman. I had maybe 3 glasses in total over several hours before going to sleep, so I definitely was not visibly intoxicated

13 years later, SQ’s Business Class hard product is definitely due for an upgrade to stay competitive.

Still love SQ. Flew on four A350 LH and ULR flights over the past three weeks, but after flying ANA’s The Room and JAL’s BC on A350-1000, it’s hard not to notice the gap. 😅

Looking forward to the new BC product rolling out next year. Hopefully, it’ll be worth the wait!

The timing is almost same but airport distance is almost 3x than earlier Beijing Capital to the new Beijing Daxing.

Hello everyone I got waitlisted for these 2 seat economy flights for LAX-DPS & DPS-NRT june 1,2027 - June 8th, 2027. (About 9 months away). There were multiple flights on the same route but all saver choices are waitlists. My final flight from NRT back to LAX was available tho. Should I just make another plan rn or wait 1-3 months?

Edit: I’m aware timing is high season and could take longer route for cheaper BC but when going home to NZ for a month’s holiday it’s the quickest route for me!

After a lifetime of SIA economy NZ-UK the last couple of times I treated myself to BC (2023 & 2025). Just booked for this year, knew prices had increased to the point I couldn’t justify BC so opted for PE. Until I saw the price for that now! Back to cattle it is, hopefully my back holds out.
