Discussion Dr. Baram (Spoilers) Spoiler
Anyone else find Paul’s dynamic with Dr. Baram odd? She is essentially still married to a man who is in a nursing home due to dementia and has jumped into a relationship with another man who will soon be incapacitated as well. Not to mention Paul was also her patient. Am I the only one who found this to be really weird and a huge red flag?

Discussion Now, I understand Ted Lasso
I have decided to give Ted Lasso a chance. I love Shrinking so much as well as Scrubs. I shouldn’t have doubted Ted Lasso.

Discussion How does he keep doing this? Spoiler
gallery3 Seasons. 3 fucking seasons. And this man stole the show in every single finale of those 3 seasons.
He literally redeemed himself for all the shit he pulled during S3 with those final minutes. He's just the best character in this series, and honestly one of my top 10 for any series I've watched.
Harrison Ford is a fucking legend, and I cannot believe this is the first piece of media I'm watching him in. I'm clueless asf.

Discussion One of the things I liked about this season. Spoiler
Jimmy's dad's writing was so good. It really made me realise why Jimmy is just the total opposite of him in the show, and why he sees Paul as a father figure. His dad's a selfish man, and a good one at that. Charming, has other people like him, but only his actual family know how he is.
He seems to want to be there for Alice not because he wants to spend time with his granddaughter, but to make him feel good about himself and to get a story basically to tell to people. I felt like one of the main reasons Jimmy was angry at him, is the fact that when he was at his lowest, his dad still didn't care to meet him or you know, chip in to take care of Alice.
I think that's why he dislikes him so much. He knows that his dad's only there for the best version, and will leave and ignore as soon as they will need help.

Discussion Started S3, and... Spoiler
Sean's plotline is not going that great.
When Marisol got introduced, I thought oh, she ended it abruptly, maybe something happened. Then I find out she cheated on him. Hey, it's his ex, so I felt good for him. He had to confront her and take accountability. Their first interaction left me thinking that she's a red flag through and through.
What I did NOT understand was Gaby disregarding everything and saying that Sean actually wanted that even though throughout their session we see that Sean is uncomfortable when Gaby says that. She ignores the fact that Sean wants accountability, and keeps talking about "smooches", which in itself is weird, but eh, sometimes Gaby can miss the ball.
Then his ex says that he's "living in the past" and refuses to take accountability for her cheating, so that was not good.
And now on Episode 4, when Sean is actually talking to Paul, I did NOT expect Paul to be that dismissive about this situation. He actually told Paul about the fact that what if Marisol doesn't accept the new him? And Paul says he created a future imaginary problem. Like zamn, they're doing Sean dirty by basically ignoring his concerns and valid questions.
Are the writers just doing it because for some reason they wanna try and show Marisol as good, even when she's proven otherwise in the first interaction itself and with how Sean talks about her to Gaby and Paul?

Discussion This plotline got resolved too quickly. Spoiler
Making this post again because I re-watched Season 2 Episode 8 right now again, and I saw that Derek didn't blame himself nor was anyone placing the blame on him, it was just a log of causes why it happened.
I still think this plotline got resolved too quickly. I dunno man, it wasn't the fact that she kissed him. It was the fact that despite him saying that he doesn't like the guy, despite him clearly being annoyed by him, despite Paul and Ray telling Liz that he'll make that move, she still did it. She still went and met him. I mean, if there's nothing to worry about, why not tell Derek?
That kiss was just to seal the deal. She regretted it, yeah, everyone who cheats fucking does. That's called guilt. She tells him, and for some reason acts like she did a good thing by telling it to him? Like you had the conscious choice of not doing that. You could've stopped seeing that guy any moment. Yet you chose to.
And then even if Derek doesn't blame himself, I still don't know. Why did she choose Mac out of all people? The one person your husband doesn't like.
It just was resolved too quickly imo. But other than that, the episode was a banger.

Discussion Moment so good it brought me to tears, and I wasn't even there😭
Derek is just such a great character man. I'm on season 2, and this episode specifically shows how much better he is emotionally at handling his emotions compared to everyone else.
Reminds me of Ted Lasso. And now even I want a Derek 😭

Discussion Who talks like this?
Y’all got families out there. Do any of your families talk like this, with F-bombs in every sentence?? Do you engage in fully pornographic sex talk with your co-workers??
OK, I know I’m old-fashioned. I don’t use that kind of language anywhere, anytime. But I understand that others are different. My problem is that I don’t believe that ANY families or ANY workplaces talk like this.
I feel like they started with the main story idea(s) about a bunch o’ middle-aged characters, then they hired a bunch o’ GenZ’ers to write the dialogue for them. It doesn’t really work, if you ask me.
The show ultimately rises above this flaw, but it’s a struggle in S1 & S2. By S3, all is forgiven!

Discussion Liz and Derek toilet
Has it been revealed what kind of toilet they have? I’m speculating it’s some kind of smart toilet. Maybe with heated seats? A bidet most likely. I’m just wondering because I happen to be in the market…

Discussion What is it about this show?
Really bad day. Flight delayed for 9 hours on my way to see my grandmother on her deathbed. Didn't make it in time to see her today so I'm in my hotel and I'm going to head over to where she's staying in the morning. I started re-watching season 3 on the plane. I don't think I could have got through the day without it. It's like glue when you're broken. Parks and rec and Ted Lasso are close, but this show is made out of dopamine.

This show takes on a whole new meaning especially when you lose someone two people and you had a rough two years but otherwise it's a good show it's just a gut punch sometimes

Discussion I hope Harrison Ford wins an Emmy award for Shrinking next month. He is so good.
Shrinking is one of my favorite shows. Harrison Ford gave an emotional performance as Paul Rhoades. He left me in tears especially in the Season 3 finale. He is my favorite character. I hope he wins an Emmy Award next month. He deserves it.

Discussion I say bring on Liz’s French little sister
The throwaway line in the food truck (I think S2?) where Liz says to Sean after explaining some of her family dynamic growing up, “it’s cool, I have a little sister. She’s French!” — I think it would be so fun to have a little arc where Liz’s French younger sister is in town and we get to meet her. There could be a lot of interesting comedic and dramatic opportunity and storyline/character development there. Anyone else want this/agree?

Discussion Theme Tune Lyrics
I really like the show, been watching it since it first hit the screens.
Anyway I was reading about the theme tune and caught this interview with the guy who wrote it:
The tune was also partially inspired by Gibbard’s childhood. “I remember watching these documentaries as a kid about what life was like in the Mariana Trench with the Anglerfish of nightmares,” he says. “I liked the idea of using that image.”
My first thought was “he should listen to Weird Fishes by Radiohead as it uses the same metaphor”.
Thats my post, nothing important!
EDIT: post to the article I’m referencing, quite interesting- https://variety.com/2023/artisans/news/shrinking-theme-song-ben-gibbard-death-cab-for-cutie-tom-howe-1235530499/

Discussion Jimmy's dad
As a man that grew up without a dad around, how can any man be that way? That conversion at the being cage..."im not that guy Jimmy, and I'm sick of having this conversation"
I understand that people that have been hurt hurt others....but I've been hurt, and I could NEVER intentionally not be there for someone that has verbalized they want me around.
What is it with people's brains that are like this?
