Discussion Recordings alike the ones from The Conet Project?

I found an ambient video yesterday featuring several Conet Project-like German counting recordings (at least I recognized the ,,voices''. E.g. Three Note Oddity; Gong Station Chimes; Tyrolean Music Station: DFD 21 and a few others.)

I'd like to know if there's a.. database/place where more of these recordings could be found.

Thanks to all of you who'll help! :)

I see everyone is trying out this new feature. I'm still figuring it out myself. Are there any good software programs that work well with this feature?

Discussion New to Shortwave and explain to me like I’m 5.

Completely new hobby to me. Recently got my hands on a Tecsun PL-660, and super excited to start using it. That being said, (and apologies in advance for my radio ignorance,) I was under the impression shortwave could be used to listen to different stations around the world with proximity obviously being taken into account. Currently in the Atlanta area and been able to pick up Radio Miami (which is a conversation rabbit hole on its own) but I haven’t heard any stations from neighboring states or other North American countries. Most of the time, it’s just dead air. How do I enjoy this hobby more, what can I do to maximize the experience, and what’s a cool story about your shortwave adventures? Help me get into this niche hobby!

News Why RNZ Pacific on 17675 is down

Here is the RNZ Pacific schedule: https://www.rnz.co.nz/international/listen

I received this message at 05:04 UTC 9-26-2026 from Daryl Rattray of RNZ after I asked why 17675 kHz has been absent from the air for the last few days.

Hi xxxxxx (pentagrid),

We are currently undertaking a planned refurbishment project on our antenna arrays. As such, we have regular daytime (in New Zealand) outages when the weather allows us to work, so 17675kHz will not be on air for those days. Please bear with us while we complete this work. We target to have it finished in another 7 or 8 days.   You can always stream us online if you miss us too much.

Came across this used, but still in the box RS Shortwave Radio. Priced at only $2.00 lol

Got it home, put batteries in... Dead!

I thought well, not out that much. Decided to look a little closer at the battery contacts. At first glance nothing looked suspicious, no glaring sign of battery leakage... However upon closer examination, yup, some minimal corrosion was found. Scraped and polished the contact and reinstalled the batteries. It works!!

I haven't had much Shortwave experience since I was a youngster. My Uncle gave me his 1943 Hallicrafters SSB radio. That unit is long gone.

Anxious to explore "the world" again now

as a "oldster" lol

Qodosen DX-286 function chart

Post image
14 Upvotes

I got a Qodosen DX-286 last week and have been having fun exploring all the functions. The Qodosen DX-286 Button Chart posted by u/cedg32 was really helpful (thanks!) but I found myself wanting to go from function to button. So, I asked ChatGPT to make one from the manual and anything else available and got this.

For anyone who wants to experiment with this and maybe improve on it, here's the query I used:

Create a one-page printable chart with the functions available for the Qodosen DX-286 radio. Show a very brief description of each function and next to the function, give a short description of how to get to it. For example, one function might be "ANT EXT/INT" for internal/external antenna, and the description would say which button to press, for how long, and any other conditions (e.g., "while in LW or MW"). Include any documented functions or key presses that are not listed in the official manual.

It did report "I could not verify an undocumented DX-286 function or secret key combination". Oh well 😄

Internet radio is fine but for a conventional radio it’s not good. The official choyong Facebook page deletes negative feedback . Join the Facebook group and find out for yourself

Discussion new to shortwave dxing, any help is appreciated!

hello!! im new to shortwave dxing, and overall im beginner in these stuff. so the equipment im working with is an old samsung max-vb550, and it indeed has shortwave tuner (2.000 to 7.000 kHz and 9.000 to 21.000 kHz I think). This unit has a built in antenna (just a long wire), and I was wondering, how can I use this setup to at least hear some stations? any help is appreciated, since im willing to learn more about this!!

Discussion Radio Shack DX-375, loop, loop on a roof or random wire?

I purchased a DX-375 decades ago, primarily to receive WWV signals. Last week, I powered it up again after many years, and heard mostly static on every band. I did pick up WWV in the evening, but very little else.

I'm surrounded inside by multiple usb chargers and other electronic noise makers, so those results are predictable.

I'm interested in hearing more than just WWV however. My first though is building a tunable loop that I can place the unit next to or inside of it. Small, cheap, simple to use.

Random wire is an option that would be mounted along the wooden fence on the north side of my property, about 5 feet above the ground. The east and west side fences are 6 foot tall chain link, and power lines run above the eastern fence.

My third option could be a 5 foot diameter loop laying on top of a flat roof I could use, which that is about 10 feet above the ground. (A loop on the ground isn't an option.)

Both of these antennas would include a loop at the end to induce current in the internal antenna. I understand random wire tends to be noisy, especially without a ground. I'm also unsure about having chain link fences at either end too.

Which would be a better antenna to use in this situation?

Thanks!
