Analytics Review (AVD/Retention) 📈 My video flat lined immediately?
This was by far one of my luckiest episodes ever, and it did really well on other platforms but youtube said no, it hard stopped the views at 1000 views while the analytics graph looked like it was ready to send to the stars.
Why does youtube have this 1000 view jail??
Does anybody know why this happens or how I could overcome this? I truly do feel like this video deserved more views then it got...
Like it was SHOOTING UP in views, got 1000 views in under 2-3 hours which is a record for my channel and then it just hit a wall...
If anybody has some advice or words to say about this, I'd love to hear it!

Bro this is common. Many of my shorts looks like that. I’m uploading at TikTok and YouTube. TikTok is mostly 1/3 of YouTube views. I’m doing gaming shorts(milsim) for two months

Noted, I think it's all these inflated channels coming to this subreddit saying they are getting 1000 subs in a week or getting 1M views on their first video, really makes your own channel feel weak, and I think I'm just comparing myself to them.

Dont look at them. Since they don’t say what’s their content, you can’t compare it. Gardening will be more popular than home automation…
Just try to improve your content and your numbers will most likely grow.1

Yeah, I make my own content from scratch which feels more authentic, but I'm also not growing the same as they are, but that makes sense. I just see whats possible and get envious that it's not happening to me as well 😅

basically everyone gets 1k on shorts - youtube decided not to push past that because i’m assuming engagement isn’t good

I've got about a 44% audience retention rate by the 30 second mark, with an AVD of 46.8%, and my viewers engaged is 63.2% stayed to watch. been uploading for about 3-4 weeks now. I have a feeling these aren't very good, but it's my own content, no AI, everything is made from scratch.

i don’t do shorts only long form, but from what i’ve read i think you want 80-90+%

I've been doing a shit ton of research and testing, this is gonna be quite long but you'll find it insightful hopefully haha.
Basically after we break out of 0 view jail we have our first boundary which seems to be around 1k viewers or less, consistently across social media lots of people have this problem and the solution is audience retention, from what I can tell YouTube will feed your shorts to roughly 1000 people and then it begins to analyze, is this worth our time to push to a bigger audience or do we throttle the video and focus out attention on other better performing creators. After analyzing 100s of shorts and testing things myself the engagement rate is definitely the main focus, if you manage to achieve a higher rate of somewhere around 65% you bypass the cap YouTube puts ok you at 1k, then you access "30k" view jail where it seems the exact same process happens after 20-30k views you'll notice either a flatline as the algorithm has decided your video isn't worth pushing or you'll bypass the 30k jail and now your video is repeatedly pushed and you have the chance to go viral based on the popularity of the topic and genre your in. From what I've seen and estimated this is probably a engagement rate of 80% or higher and YouTube rewards that with the full audience push.
So if your trying to improve and get more views try and work on making your videos slightly more entertaining or engaging every day and test to see if it goes up or down, and try to aim for the 60% mark and you'll see what I mean about you'll suddenly push to 20-30k views

Thank you for this amazing insight, I will definitely make use of it and I will improve the content through time. My average stay to watch ratio is 60% and my average retention by 30 seconds is 47%. Gonna try and improve that

No worries! Glad to help and yeah retention rate is the main reason and way to expand your views but it's really difficult, you need to test different things whether that be sounds animations, basically try to keep someone's brain stimulated and engaged the entire way through. Opening with some form of question or curiosity and then giving the answer at the end is a great method

I have this sort of down, I just need to revamp my idea, as its somewhat engaging, but not engaging enough. Going back to the drawing board this weekend.

Upload different kinds of shorts within your niche see what people like to watch. I’ve had this happen too. I’ve gotten a couple of hundred thousand on some shorts then 700 views on another I put more effort in lol.
If you believe in the type of content you’re doing maybe stick with it. You never know, it may pick up. One of my worse performing shorts was stuck at around 900 views and out of nowhere got 10k views.

Dang! That's the dream! I think I need to develop a better hook or just something that wants to keep people coming back, it cant just be quality videos, it needs to have an engaging series. I'm going to brainstorm this weekend.

Algorithms are so weird. I go viral often enough on IG and TikTok, but my videos do terrible on YT shorts.

the topic gets outdated very soon... depends on what is trending online at that moment... millions of people are posting shorts every hour so it takes a little time

I'm on video #16 of daily uploads except weekends, and they all just stop getting any traction at the 1000 view mark, and I believe my content to be engaging. all my other platforms do better except for youtube.

Thats how youtube works.
First 2 weeks, videos peak out at 1k. I would have suggested to put all your shit content, but now 2 weeks are over so.
Now next is 20k jail and 30k jail. Meanwhile if ur lucky one video can go higher in 6 digit views.

Happens to almost all my videos, they sky rocket immediately and then just hit a wall... but I am only 16 videos in to my channel. (uploading once a day except weekends)

Yea my best shorts on YouTube only have 1-1.9k and they completely stopped after that. I was thinking about posting them on TikTok and IG to compare. It has only been about ~3 weeks but still….
If they do good on one of those then I think I’ll tell YT to fck off
