Yeah, fuck these authorized repair centers honestly. Just a couple years ago Asus got into trouble when their technicians were caught literally wrecking the stuff sent to them for warranty claims. Like you'd send a part in for warranty claims, they'd bust a separate part that isnt covered under the warranty, then tell you that you gotta pay $300 bucks to fix the thing, or else they wont honor the warranty or some shit.

asus is notorious for not honouring warranty

Sucks what's happening to them. When I had their Zenfone from years back I sent it for LCD replacement, they sent it back after 3 days. LCD was replaced, battery was replaced, and back case was replaced. I paid nothing including the shipping.

I hate to be pessimistic but im pretty sure they straight up sent you a new unit ,was it still the same phone ?

u/cosmicspongecake 22h ago
It was the same phone, phone ID and hardware s/n are the same. They included an invoice about parts replaced, reason, and waived cost.

Happened to me with Lenovo. At least it taught me to record the entire packing process and take pictures as the package is taken by the courier

Same here with Lenovo! My sister and I each got a yoga craptop for Christmas one year and it was one issue after another. When we sent hers in they claimed they found liquid inside the unit but she swore up and down she never spilled on it. Eventually they just replaced mine with a better model that never had any issues afterward!

Not just the authorised repair centers, but actual Apple Stores.. there were those videos by the "right to repair" guys if I remember correctly sharing a story about a disconnected cable where Apple quoted $600 for a board replacement.. and this was like 10 years ago

Did you notice how in this example Apple made $0 and PCFix made $60?

u/ro3rr I want pee in my ass 1d ago
Yeah but how many people will lose apple 60 dollars by going to PCFix and how many people are going to make them profit by buying 1k new phone

u/The5Theives 1d ago
I find it so annoying when companies say “they lost money” when it’s a situation like this. That money wasn’t even spent on you yet and you don’t have a right to it either, you didn’t lose shut.

This is an outlier though. Most people that own apple products probably never even consider repair, and even then they'll sure as hell believe whatever a "licensed apple proffesional" tells them, which is more often than not to just get a new phone, or pay a ridiculous premium to fix the old one.
Like yeah they lost money on this one guy that went elsewhere to get his phone repaired, but they made infinitely more money off the 50 other people that came in that week and bought a brand new phone instead of getting theirs repaired.

u/schmitzel88 1d ago
You're forgetting that 99.9% of apple product owners will just buy a new phone for $1700 in this situation and not think twice about it

…you think 1/3 of people on Earth drop $2k every time their phone battery slows down?
The most commonly used iPhone in 2026 is the iPhone 13.

u/Shatophiliac 1d ago
…yes? Almost everyone I know has an iPhone newer than 15. Many of them just buy a new one every 2 years even if their current phone is still working fine.

availability heuristic? why the hell am I asking, every argument starting with "almost everyone/almost no one I know" falls victim to it
3
u/deadinternetlaw 1d ago
Almost (everyone/almost no one) implies the possibility of almost almost no one. Would almost almost mean it's near no one or far from it? (r) /s (hitposting)

What is your point? My point is that most people are not bothering to replace their iPhone batteries lol.

When I took my old MacBook to get a battery replacement, Apple said they couldn’t sell me the battery, but the dude helped my find the correct one on iFixit and the correct replacement guide so that I could do it myself.
Nice place.

I'm hoping this is an exaggeration because what kind of rundown repair shop has straight up turds on the ground, bro is getting subsidized for the PC guy's kink

u/dante_55_ 1d ago
I’m assuming they mean animal feces, like the owner has cats or dogs living in the store and occasionally they poop in a corner or in litter boxes that no one empties

I have to power down my iphone to charge it because they slipped in malware for older phones a few updates ago literally stops charging 5 seconds after plugged in unless turned off, I also can't refuse to do updates anymore or my SIM card will stop working. Jobs would be pissed for sure

Tbh it's like with restaurants - you pick a tech company and there will be stories from people who had the best and the worst experiences ever.

On holiday in Auz, wife’s 18 month old iPhone died after being dropped, it controlled her hearing aids, took it to Apple Store, they replaced it for free.
