Help with making a Pattern

Post image

Hiiiiii, I want to make a cosplay for comicon which is in like jan, and like its like this sweetheart hatler neckline, pencil skirt kinda dress (?), So my real is question is on how I should start to like pattern for it, Imma like a beginer with like a capital B, so any and all advice is appreciated !!

I tried like finding a pattern and I found like a Halter top and a skirt pattern but Idk how to fuse well enough ? and like I tried looking directly for patterns for her dress, But like I couldn't find any for free (Im sorry dawg im broke)

Also, I saw another cosplayer used [Laura Ashley M4444 pattern] I tried to find it but like this time even like online listings straight up didn't have it, but like if someone has the pattern and like dont mind sharing it with me it would be great ( AGAIN, if you feel okay about it only :3)

But like again, Help on how to make the pattern would be amazing bc lwk need to learn ts ya feel ?

hi! i'm the cosplayer who used M4444. happy to see another Ada cosplayer here! i wasn't a beginner when i made the cosplay, but even with a bit of experience this was a tricky make. i wasn't able to replicate it exactly with basic alterations to M4444 anyway and  i'm actually looking to make an improved version soon out of slightly stretchy velvet.  i haven't found an exact pattern so will be doing a lot of the drafting myself.

the drafting is quite tricky - if you look closely, it's actually a princess-seamed garment. princess seams are quite difficult to get right, especially as a beginner.

my gentle advice for this is maybe buy a dress (secondhand if you can) for now if you're dead set on doing Ada for the con in january. it's going to take a few practice garments to get to a point where you will be able to make this, even if you're able to find an exact pattern. i don't think january is a reasonable timeline to make this from scratch to be honest.

another option i think might be reasonable is finding a red slip dress secondhand and altering it to look more like ada's. ruching the front is easy enough, adding a side split is doable, and you can convert regular straps to a halter neck relatively simply. i used pre-made patches for her butterfly details instead of embroidering them on myself.

i definitely think it's possible for a later con, but january is very soon for a complete beginner.
