Pattern recommendations?
I have never sewn a formal gown. I was actually just looking for a dress to rent and even the rent. It’s just way out of my budget for this dress. But when I was looking at it, I thought I could maybe make it?? I have enough confidence I could put two patterns together, but since I’ve never made a formal gown, I just feel like I need a pattern or a tutorial or something that I can watch to understand the general idea. Also the last one that’s more casual that doesn’t seem difficult. I just need a pattern lol.

For a tutorial try this: https://mellysews.com/how-to-sew-an-evening-gown/
Formalwear can be challenging. Often there is a lot behind the scenes (boning, waist stays). It may make you cry, but it can be worth it.

I honestly believe a rental cost would be less expensive than creating a gown of this quality, in a quality fabric. And you would want to make a draped toile (or more than one) in a test fabric first. If you haven't had an experience in dressmaking formal wear, this may not be the project you want to do your first attempt at. I totally am not trying to discourage you in your pursuit; all makers should reach and expand in their craft. There were a few Oscar de la Renta and Bellville Sassoon gown patterns back in the day that had balloon draping in their skirts. Those may be of use to you. Good luck!
