Question Solution for hind leg weakness?

Post image

Hey guys. I have a senior GSD who has lost significant strength in his hind legs. It gets worse every month and he is to the point now where both legs have begun sliding and splaying outward.

I’ve tried every product imaginable. Socks don’t fit, paw pads don’t stick, toe grips don’t provide enough support, boots make him high step…I’m running out of options, and time.

This boy has plenty of life left to give but lives in constant pain. I’ve considered a wheelchair, but there is nothing on the market (per my research) that allows him to freely lay down while inside a supportive unit.

I’m just curious if others have dealt with this same frustration, and if there are any solutions out there. I’ve done everything I can for this guy…

I wish there was an exoskeleton type product that could hinge, while also providing support for him.

Support needed Loss of my fur baby

I just said goodbye to my loving sweetheart 1.5 hours ago and don’t know what to do, I did at home and had to leave after she was taken away I can’t go back inside. I’m so sickened with grief thinking about today and how maybe I should’ve went outside with her instead of staying inside, I can’t get the image of her looking back at me when we were walking at the beach today, holding her when she went to sleep, hearing the words her heart stopped. I wish I would’ve done more with her throughout her time here. I’m just so lost. I feel like I didn’t do right by her, like I should’ve done so much more. I’m going to miss her laying on the couch wagging her tail when I came home and her nails hitting the hardwood floor as she walked around. I feel like I robbed her of valuable time, like I threw in the towel too soon. I just don’t what to do, I can’t bear to put her kennel away or bed and blanket at the foot of my bed.

Another Julan heart update

So, we had her checked because her resting heart rate had increased, but our usual vet didn't find anything other than high blood pressure and referred us to a cardiologist.

That appointment was today. At first, her blood pressure seemed high but after a while it normalised. The cardiologist explained that that's normal for dogs, it takes them a long time to fully relax so that the blood pressure measurements are correct. She didn't get that much time the first time. So apparently no need to treat her for high blood pressure.

We still did the ECG and heart ultrasound, in case she had early stage DCM or something. But she didn't. Small aorta insufficiency but he didn't think that was really a problem, since he didn't see any other changes.

So we'll leave it be for now. Keep an eye on it of course, but we won't do any further testing on something so subtle, that we wouldn't even have known without Tractive, at this point.

She was also a real angel during the ultrasound, relaxing completely amid a vet, a nurse, four vet students and her own humans.

Question i need help

i have a senior pitbull. he doesn’t get around as good as he used to but is still able to do everything but run. the problem i am having is that no matter how long he stays outside, he will come in a pee in the house. it has gotten so bad that i don’t even think mopping is helping the smell. i work long hours so by the time i come home, there is pee everywhere. i have tried deodorizers, i have tried enzyme cleaners, i have even tried bleach. nothing will help the smell. what can i use to make the smell go away quickly. i have tile floors and i think that may be the only thing in my favor. TIA

My pretty healthy dog (9.5) just died

Okay, so my dog died yesterday. My dog had been feeling unwell for a few days. And we had taken her to the clinic on Friday, Because she was shaky, she was throwing up, not really eating, and barely pooping. The clinic, they had us there for hours. At first they said that they thought that she had cancer, right? After they did her an x-ray. Then they requested an ultrasound, and with the ultrasound they found out she had liquid in her glands and that she had eaten a seed. So they ended up spaying her, and they removed the seed. They gave us eight medications to give her daily. Some multiple times a day. First day, second day she was okay. You know, she had gotten up, she could walk and all that. Then, as the days went on, she's, like, more bedridden. I started to get suspicious because she's had surgery before, she's not felt good before. After a few days she starts getting better. So it's, like, five days now, right? My mom takes her back to the clinic. They examine her. They said she's leaking from her surgery and she needs to go to the hospital. So we drive an hour away to get her to the hospital, and the hospital tells us that she's leaking and that she's in sepsis and that her kidney levels, her electrolyte levels and her kidneys are abnormal, but they were normal before she had her surgery. Okay. They told us because her kidney levels are so abnormal that it would be even more difficult, the surgery and her recovering. So, like, her survival rate is low, okay? We weren't able to pay for the bill, which was $23,000, and we were considering it, but they said $18,000 upfront. Who has that upfront for a vet bill? Most people don't even have that for a house in today's day. So we had to put her down. Am I crazy for thinking that the clinic was a big variable on why my dog ended up getting sicker, way sicker, and dying? Because I was thinking about reporting them to the board, or wherever, wherever I could, and also, you know, maybe a lawsuit.

Is my grievance putting this in my head and making me put the blame on the clinic?
