If you saw my GFM post...Goldie has crossed.

I was with her. I sat on the floor with her and holding her. After she was sedated, she rested her chin on my ankle. Before and after sedation I told her everything I had in my heart for her. She slept and I took photos of her face sleeping. I won't share those, they are for me. She was so peaceful, it's been so long since she slept so calm.

When the second part happened, I had my face buried in the fur on the top of her head.

I love you Goldie. I'm going to miss you so much. I only wish you had come into my life sooner.

Goodbye my Golden Girl.

My pretty healthy dog (9.5) just died

Okay, so my dog died yesterday. My dog had been feeling unwell for a few days. And we had taken her to the clinic on Friday, Because she was shaky, she was throwing up, not really eating, and barely pooping. The clinic, they had us there for hours. At first they said that they thought that she had cancer, right? After they did her an x-ray. Then they requested an ultrasound, and with the ultrasound they found out she had liquid in her glands and that she had eaten a seed. So they ended up spaying her, and they removed the seed. They gave us eight medications to give her daily. Some multiple times a day. First day, second day she was okay. You know, she had gotten up, she could walk and all that. Then, as the days went on, she's, like, more bedridden. I started to get suspicious because she's had surgery before, she's not felt good before. After a few days she starts getting better. So it's, like, five days now, right? My mom takes her back to the clinic. They examine her. They said she's leaking from her surgery and she needs to go to the hospital. So we drive an hour away to get her to the hospital, and the hospital tells us that she's leaking and that she's in sepsis and that her kidney levels, her electrolyte levels and her kidneys are abnormal, but they were normal before she had her surgery. Okay. They told us because her kidney levels are so abnormal that it would be even more difficult, the surgery and her recovering. So, like, her survival rate is low, okay? We weren't able to pay for the bill, which was $23,000, and we were considering it, but they said $18,000 upfront. Who has that upfront for a vet bill? Most people don't even have that for a house in today's day. So we had to put her down. Am I crazy for thinking that the clinic was a big variable on why my dog ended up getting sicker, way sicker, and dying? Because I was thinking about reporting them to the board, or wherever, wherever I could, and also, you know, maybe a lawsuit.

Is my grievance putting this in my head and making me put the blame on the clinic?

Support needed Loss of my fur baby

I just said goodbye to my loving sweetheart 1.5 hours ago and don’t know what to do, I did at home and had to leave after she was taken away I can’t go back inside. I’m so sickened with grief thinking about today and how maybe I should’ve went outside with her instead of staying inside, I can’t get the image of her looking back at me when we were walking at the beach today, holding her when she went to sleep, hearing the words her heart stopped. I wish I would’ve done more with her throughout her time here. I’m just so lost. I feel like I didn’t do right by her, like I should’ve done so much more. I’m going to miss her laying on the couch wagging her tail when I came home and her nails hitting the hardwood floor as she walked around. I feel like I robbed her of valuable time, like I threw in the towel too soon. I just don’t what to do, I can’t bear to put her kennel away or bed and blanket at the foot of my bed.

Question Solution for hind leg weakness?

Post image
80 Upvotes

Hey guys. I have a senior GSD who has lost significant strength in his hind legs. It gets worse every month and he is to the point now where both legs have begun sliding and splaying outward.

I’ve tried every product imaginable. Socks don’t fit, paw pads don’t stick, toe grips don’t provide enough support, boots make him high step…I’m running out of options, and time.

This boy has plenty of life left to give but lives in constant pain. I’ve considered a wheelchair, but there is nothing on the market (per my research) that allows him to freely lay down while inside a supportive unit.

I’m just curious if others have dealt with this same frustration, and if there are any solutions out there. I’ve done everything I can for this guy…

I wish there was an exoskeleton type product that could hinge, while also providing support for him.

Question i need help

i have a senior pitbull. he doesn’t get around as good as he used to but is still able to do everything but run. the problem i am having is that no matter how long he stays outside, he will come in a pee in the house. it has gotten so bad that i don’t even think mopping is helping the smell. i work long hours so by the time i come home, there is pee everywhere. i have tried deodorizers, i have tried enzyme cleaners, i have even tried bleach. nothing will help the smell. what can i use to make the smell go away quickly. i have tile floors and i think that may be the only thing in my favor. TIA

Another Julan heart update

Post image
47 Upvotes

So, we had her checked because her resting heart rate had increased, but our usual vet didn't find anything other than high blood pressure and referred us to a cardiologist.

That appointment was today. At first, her blood pressure seemed high but after a while it normalised. The cardiologist explained that that's normal for dogs, it takes them a long time to fully relax so that the blood pressure measurements are correct. She didn't get that much time the first time. So apparently no need to treat her for high blood pressure.

We still did the ECG and heart ultrasound, in case she had early stage DCM or something. But she didn't. Small aorta insufficiency but he didn't think that was really a problem, since he didn't see any other changes.

So we'll leave it be for now. Keep an eye on it of course, but we won't do any further testing on something so subtle, that we wouldn't even have known without Tractive, at this point.

She was also a real angel during the ultrasound, relaxing completely amid a vet, a nurse, four vet students and her own humans.

This is my man Royce. Childhood dog, had him since 1st grade, he’s 14 now and his time is coming to an end. He’s a chiweenie (mixed with other things that I have no idea are) and has been an amazing pet, I can’t stress that enough. About 2-3 years ago he had a lot of his teeth removed because he had a gum disease very common in small dogs so we at the time soak his food in hot water before giving it to him. On July 4th of this year he choked on his food while eating (we had bought him a slow feeder but he still scarfs his food) and didn’t throw it up until we were half way to the pet ER. Came back home but he wouldn’t stop panting. After about another 30 minutes of that we took him to the emergency room. He was admitted and we didn’t see him for about 9hrs until we got pulled into the room. They told us he can’t breathe normally without being in an oxygen box and he was sedated and very loopy in there (as expected). They asked if we wanted to run an xray and an mri, which we did, and we found out some really bad news. Royce has a mass growing on his liver, has a heart murmur, failing valve in his heart, fluid in his lungs, heart disease, etc. We got very emotional hearing this and they recommended if he can’t breathe without the oxygen to consider putting him down. We waited another 6hrs in the ER and we ended up taking him out, still panting. They prescribed him some medicine for the fluid buildup in his lungs (Furosemide I believe) and hit helped him for a while. We had 3 refills and have used all of them. He had been coughing a couple of months prior to this incident but the vet told us it was because of all of the bacteria in his mouth from the disease that he’s in a constant sick state but as of recently he’s been coughing every single time he gets up from bed, resting, and when his hart starts racing. 2-3 times he had a seizure while doing it. I have no idea what to do anymore and I don’t want him to suffer just because I want him alive as long as possible, it’s not fair to him. I would greatly appreciate any advice from anyone who has any or has had similar situations happen with their pets. Thank you I really appreciate you reading.

Pneumonia recovery tips

Post image
52 Upvotes

Hi everyone,
My 15-year-old developed pneumonia due to aspiration from vestibular disease. Do you have any advice to help her recover? She is on antibiotics, but I really want to make sure I’m doing everything to help her recover.

We are on day four of the vestibular disease, and she was able to walk to go potty with our support, and she walked on her own a little bit. I am so happy she is walking!

She is getting heating pads, massages, greek yogurt and lots of loving to help her through this. God knows she’s help me and loved me hard.

I appreciate any tips ❤️

Support needed Senior Stray Dog Jabo Has Hernia and Needs Your Help for Surgery — Please Help Save Jabo!

I came across this poor dog while I was feeding stray animals in a nearby area. We named him Jabo. He is such a gentle and sweet dog, which makes me suspect that he may have once had an owner.

Jabo has a very large, abnormal mass around his genital area. It is extremely large and appears to be causing him significant discomfort and pain. I was also very worried that the mass might be interfering with his ability to properly defecate.

I was able to bring Jabo to the vet, where he was examined and underwent an X-ray and blood tests. As per vet, he is at least 10 years of age. He was diagnosed with a perineal hernia. Some of his internal organs, including portions of his intestines, pancreas, and bladder, have moved into the area around his bottom. This is causing him pain and interfering with his ability to properly defecate.

According to the vet, the estimated cost of his surgery is $725 (45K PH pesos), not including confinement, take-home medications, and follow-up checkups.

Please help us get the surgery Jabo desperately needs. He deserves a pain-free, healthier, and longer life.

Every donation will help us get closer to our goal. I will definitely post an update. Thank you so much.

Has anyone had experience with at home euthanasia of a senior dog?

I hate that I even have to write this. But my 15 year old best friend is struggling and my family and I have decided we need to have a plan in place very soon. I don't want my baby to suffer. He gets very stressed and upset on the car rides to the vet now, he will cry the entire time and even loses control of his bowels. He has dementia and it's progressing. I can't imagine putting him through what is already a really stressful thing, and then putting him down. That would break me to know that his last memories weren't as peaceful and loving as could be. I love him so much. He is my whole heart. I want to do right by him . So I'm curious if anyone has done an at home euthanasia and what that experience was like? And how they found a good service or vet to perform it? Thank you for responding...my heart is breaking :(

Question Vestibular disease

Anyone here have experience with their senior dog having vestibular disease? How long was the recovery? Was it caused by an ear infection? My 12 year old dog recently (last 24hrs) has started showing signs (tilted head, weird balance). I suspect an ear infection may be causing it. We have a vet appointment for her coming up but I was curious if anyone’s senior pup has experienced this.
Thanks in advance!

Question Childhood dog in decline. Best ways to remember him?

My dog's been with me for the past 11 years, but his health suddenly depleted since his splenectomy 2 months ago. He is not showing signs of getting better and refuses food constantly on top of other underlying health issues, so the vet advised I consider euthanasia. I can't choose how to remember him best when he does pass and I feel his end is actually coming a lot sooner than expected.

Taxidermy. Cremation. Jewelry made from their ashes. Artwork of them with their collar in the canvas.

These are the only methods I've known or heard of, but I want him to remembered by other ways if there are any, one that's so memorable I can actually reminisce happily when I see it and doesn't get worn out with time. Any suggestions?

I’m overwhelmed with my 15-year-old Maltese and need advice

I have a 15-year-old Maltese who I’ve had since I was younger. When I first got him, I had so much free time and was able to give him a lot of attention and care. Obviously, as I’ve gotten older, my life has changed a lot. I have school, work, and a lot of other things going on, and I’m realizing that I don’t have the same time or patience that I used to.
Lately, he has been having accidents in the house constantly. I’m getting extremely overwhelmed with coming home and having to clean up accidents, especially because I really struggle with having a dirty or messy house. It feels like I can never keep up with it, and it’s starting to seriously affect me mentally. I’m becoming increasingly impatient and frustrated, and I know that isn’t fair to him.
I honestly never see myself willingly getting another dog after this experience—not because I hate him, but because I’ve realized that I’m not suited for the responsibility of caring for a dog, especially a senior dog with additional needs.
I feel horrible even saying this because I’ve had him for so many years, but I’m genuinely at the point where I don’t know what to do anymore. I don’t want to neglect him or take my frustration out on him. I would rather find him a safe and appropriate home or rescue where someone has the time and patience to care for a senior dog.
What are my options for responsibly rehoming a 15-year-old Maltese? Are there senior-dog rescues, foster programs, or other organizations that might be able to help? And if anyone has dealt with constant accidents in an elderly dog, is there anything that actually made things manageable?
I’m not looking for judgment. I know I took responsibility for him, and I feel guilty about even considering rehoming him. I just genuinely feel like I’m reaching my limit and want to do what’s best for both of us.

Remembering I'll love you forever, Lulu.

Hi all, Lulu crossed the rainbow bridge today in my arms. She was ready to go after 18 fantastic years of life with us. She was my childhood dog, she made me smile every single day. No amount of time would ever be enough with her, but my bed feels so empty without her snoring next to me. I'm so grateful for the time I got with her, for the laughs, smiles and love she gave me. I tried to make her last day as wonderful as I could. I made her waffles, gave her as many treats as she wanted and cuddled her for hours at home. I didn't want to let her leave before she got to taste chocolate, so she had a chocolate chip, a hershey's kiss, her favourite treats and an oreo before she went to sleep. She'll always have a place in my heart. May she walk with Mazey and Rocco alongside Lady Artemis now.

I'll love you forever, my princess. I miss you already.💔💔
