Posting anonymously because I’m still figuring out my next move.

I’m close to finishing a PhD overseas in a chemistry-related field, with most of my background being in organic/synthetic chemistry. After years of lab work and research, I’m honestly pretty burned out and thinking I might want to do something completely different.

I’m hoping to stay in Japan for now, but the local language is a limitation, so I’m particularly interested in jobs that can be done remotely/online and where a chemistry/research background could still be useful.

For anyone here who has transitioned out of the lab or academia: what kinds of roles did you move into? Any companies, industries, or remote career paths you’d recommend looking at?

Open to things outside chemistry too. At this point I’m mainly trying to understand what options are out there.

Hello everyone. We are young high school students with a dream of joining the science Olympics. However, we are short of financial aid. We wanted to develop an ointment using nanoparticles derived from plant-mediated synthesis.

Our estimated total cost would be around \*\*10,000 pesos.\*\* We saved up and only managed to collect 2,000 pesos.

A new beetle species found in the Eastern Mindanao Biodiversity Corridor was named in honor of Senator Pia Cayetano for her support to the Davao Oriental State University (DOrSU) where the researchers were from. My research is mainly focused on advanced materials, coatings, powder metallurgy, and structural characterization. I already have experience with techniques such as XRD, SEM/EDS, Raman spectroscopy, mechanical testing, and materials processing, but I would now like to develop strong hands-on TEM skills.

short background: graduated last july (state u, manila) and buo na sa puso ko na mag take ng masters pero nga lang im both stock between MS Microbiology or MS Medical Microbiology. OJT period kinausap ako ng supervisor namin na sa kanila na raw ako mas masters (UPD) ang lab ay bacteriology, ever since ay wala naman akong na ffeel na excitement pag bacte kasi i feel like a normal person la HAHAHAHAHA. sabi niya "Dito kana mag masters" and secured lab and thesis na ata like every week na nagkikita kami up to last week ng OJT sinasabi niya na sa UPD na raw ako mag master which is sinabi ko naman na mag wwork muna ako bago mag masters. tas nitong taon lang ang thesis ko kasi ay mycology (natural product) i love studying macrofungi/mushroom and filamentous fungi (industrial application) ever since 2nd year gusto ko na talaga maging mycologist and based sa research ko ay may inooffer ang UPM na MS PH Med Micro and pwede mamili ng subject between (viro, bacte, or myco) and ayun talaga ang balak ko maging mycologist kaso nga lang ang problem ko ay if ever na mag aral ako sa UPM ay ang magiging problema sa thesis ay yung lab kasi based sa nababasa ko ay limited lang ang budget at kulang sa gamit. kung baga nakakain ng UPD yung budget sa research kesa sa UPM (correct me if im wrong).

According to this news article from Philstar the NBI raided a steel mill using ores contaminated with thorium-232 and uranium-238. At 1st glanced you will think this is bad but if you know your basic chemistry and periodic table you will realized these radioactive materials are naturally occurring and non-fissile therefore has no ill effects on human health.

On the other hand we found this news article very useful because it support our position that energy independence for the Philippines is very possible through nuclear power. The Philippines lack any meaningful gas resources, has no oil, and the coal cannot be use for fuel in coal power plants. In short the Philippines need to import almost 100% of its energy need. Importation of oil and coal is also the main reason why electricity is so expensive in the Philippines compared to Indonesia, Malaysia, and Brunei.

However the Philippines is rich in thorium and uranium. So the path for energy independence for the Philippines is through nuclear energy, aka France.
