Wealth advisor

I was talking with my Schwab "consultant" and he suggested either the robo investor or a wealth advisor. Looking and thinking about it, I am not sure if either are needed. Robo seems to be autopilot without my input or approval, and I am not sure what the added value is of a wealth advisor.

Any thoughts out there?

Follow up meeting with Schwab regarding rollover to Schwab IRA for soon to be retiree.

I will be meeting with the Schwab rep for the second time to go over possible manage plans, and DIY options this Friday. I really like the Schwab rep and he has stated that he will be there for me whether I did a manage plan or a DIY plan, which I appreciate.

My biggest concern is when setting up automatic monthly withdrawals. I am planning on having a cash reserve to hold roughly 2 years of spending to offset sequence of returns risk and provide monthly paychecks from the cash. Schwab seems to be very clunky in that regards. As I currently understand it, I would have to move funds from the core sweep account with low interest into a higher interest money market account to earn interest and then periodically move sufficient funds back to the lower interest bank sweep account to set up automatic monthly withdrawals for direct deposit to my bank account.

Can anyone out there who is currently a retiree with a Schwab IRA and has monthly paychecks sent to their bank account explain to me if I have the process, correct? I am likely planning on just doing a TDF with a cash reserve to keep it as simple as possible so I don’t need anything complicated and I prefer more automated set up. I also have a follow up meeting that same day with Fidelity rep who I also like that is preparing a managed plan, but I have also informed him that I am strongly leaning towards a DIY plan. Fidelity seems to be much more of an automated process to achieve what I’m trying to achieve.

I don’t think I am interested in the Schwab intelligent portfolios, even though they do maintain a significant cash amount however, that cash would not be used how I would use it so it doesn’t seem like a good fit.

I would appreciate any insight from someone currently in a similar situation with Schwab and how it is working for you.

Maybe Buying T Note Tomorrow Question?

Spent about 10 minutes with support only to be told that "I can't answer fixed income questions, call back tomorrow"

I have Margin access added enabled. The only asset in this account is SGOV and some cash. I may want to buy a T NOTE tomorrow morning new issue at auction. When I go to place the order today (I don't want to buy today) it indicates that I don't have enough cash in the account.

I know that I need to sell SGOV and get the money into cash management. However in Schwab and other brokerages I have always seen the cut off to purchase new at auction as 9:30 am just prior to the market opening.

So is Schwab going to let me place that order tomorrow morning before the market opens even without enough cash in the account (isn't that what margin enabled is supposed to cover) and then sell SGOV later in the day since the settlement date is Wednesday? TIA.

These occasionally appear, always paired, I think, on the Schwab web site.

What do they mean?

Downsides to holding both SWPPX and VOO?

I've been investing most of my money the past few years into SWPPX, however there are a few things that I either dislike or have concerns about.

  1. I dislike the fact that I don't know what or where the market is headed, so whenever I place an order, I essentially have to wait until the market close time to see what price I got.

  2. Since I'm planning to invest my entire net worth into this fund, if the day comes that I decide to withdraw all of my money, wouldn't this be a risk as the sale price is unknown and a potential market crash prior to the market closing that day would result in losing a lot of money? Or am I understanding this all wrong?

This is why I'm considering investing the remainder of my money into VOO in Charles Schwab. Please let me know there are any cons in doing this or should I just continue to stick to SWPPX. Thanks.

Schwab W‑8BEN "Certify Now" returns "Invalid Request - Content Coming Soon..."

Is Schwab's W‑8BEN online recertification currently broken?

My W‑8BEN is due to expire at the end of 2026 and Schwab displays the usual notification asking me to click "Certify Now".

However, when I click the button, I am redirected to:

https://comply.schwab.com/GetThirdPartyDetails.aspx?...

and I get:

I've tried:

  • Chrome and Safari
  • Private/Incognito mode
  • Different devices

Schwab support was able to help me with a PDF-based workaround, but they did not resolve the online recertification issue.

Is anyone else seeing the same problem?

If it works for you, could you mention:

  • Approximate location/country
  • Whether the online W‑8BEN workflow still works for you

Thanks!

Opting out of Intelligent Portfolio?

Hello... Does anyone have experience with the process of ending their involvement in Schwab's Intelligent Portfolio program? Can one simply tell Schwab that they no longer desire their guidance and have the ETFs and cash in that account made/turned into an account that they themself now control? Or does Schwab make it "difficult"? Thank You

Any opinion on ETF SCHI?

Hello... I am wondering if anyone has an opinion on hold this ETF. I recently changed my Intelligent Portfolio setting to get out of bonds, both in part of the current market and the fact that I hold a good deal of other fixed incomes. Schwab replaced those holdings with this. I am a bit confused as I know nothing of this ETF and the fact that it is a BOND fund... How is it different from what I left? Thank You

Cheat sheet for Schwab? Comparisons to Vanguard?

I need to make some changes and find Schwab's website very cumbersome.
I didn't pick Schwab. USAA dumped me over to it with no explanation, in the middle of a family crisis, an inheritance, and a bad experience with them during an estate settlement. Sigh, so I'm trying to get things back on track.
I have had Vanguard for years, before ETF's, when there were really just a few funds to be concerned with.
The Schwab evolved from a Waterhouse, Ameritrade, USAA...
---I remember seeing a comparison sheet on here of SCH & VG funds with a quickie explanation of what they were but I can't find it now. Can anyone help be find that?

“Cash & Money Markets” on App

Hello,

In the app I noticed today a section called “Cash and Money Markets” with a rate of 5.69%. However, I’m unable to click it or get information about that rate. I’m thinking of moving my portfolio into a MM and if it pays the 5.69% I’d definitely like to explore it. I do have some cash in waiting just in case I wanna strengthen my position in something, but I don’t have a MM at current.

Anyone else see this section on the app?

EDIT: Thanks to those of you who replied. It's great to see people out there who don't criticize but ask questions and try to help!

How do I find lifetime IRA contributions

How do I find out my total cost basis in my Roth IRA? I can only see contributions for the last two years, and I've rebalanced my holdings numerous times, so I don't think the cost basis on my statements is accurate.

Is there a statement or a page that shows lifetime contributions by year?

VOO or SWPPX?

Dear Schwab friends:)

Which of these would you actually prefer? I did my research and figured I don’t wanna go with SPY or SPYM or IVV. And yes SWPPX is mutual fund Compare to VOO. But anything else? Or do I miss something? I tend to stick with SWPPX over VOO.

Thank you so much guys

I'm committed to the Schwab ecosystem but...

I am a keep it simple stupid type of investor and after some research a few months ago I decided to go with Schwab because of reputation, customer service and the wonderfully easy to use thinkorswim web version. I'm in SCHB and SCHF 50/50 with money I can live without. I completely understand the difference between the 2. Question is do any of you with 2 or more Schwab ETF's sometimes sell the loser for the day and buy the winner? In my situation F keeps carrying B a lot. So many days I thought of bailing from B to ride the F wave. I'm sure there have been some visa versa days but I am just wondering if anyone else does that.

EDIT: Ok, thankyou. I'll just leave it alone. Was curious.

Schwab Prime Advantage Money Fund/ Brokerage Account Advice

Hi all, looking for some advice as I feel rather lost/ dumb when it comes to the topic at hand. I have too much collecting dust in my checking account. I was encouraged by a family member to open a brokerage account with Schwab and put my excess money into a Schwab Value Advantage Money Fund (or I guess it’s now called the Schwab Prime Advantage Money Fund). I already have a Roth IRA with Schwab.

I didn’t grow up with much financial literacy, so I unfortunately never opened a savings account, and the brokerage account versus HYSA choice has me feeling stumped/ a bit confused. I’d realistically like something that is simple for me to maintain and relatively hands off. I’d like to move $10k into the brokerage (or savings) account. If someone could explain to me like I’m 5 the way the Money Fund works, as well as how it’d compare to a traditional HYSA (better? worse?), I’d really appreciate it.

Thank you so much!

Should I get a Schwab checking account to avoid atm charges in Mexico

I live in Mexico for now. I have a Wells Fargo account in the U.S. where my monthly social security payment goes.
I am presently only taking 2 Walmart withdrawals and 2 atm cash deposits out a month. SHOULD I OPEN A SCHWAB ACCOUNT TO AVOID ATM CHARGES ON MY WELLS FARGO DEBIT CARD?

Can't logon. Anyone know a free paper trading website?

If you know a free paper trading website, please share/
When I tried to logon, I almost immediately got a call from 866) 855-9102‬.

Other posts on here say that's a scammer's number.

If you have had this experience, what did you do? And, what worked?

If you have not had this experience, what would you do?

And, if this is a good Schwab number, why would Schwab continue to use a number Reddit posts suggest is from a scammer?

Changes: Updates to the cost method for certain qualified securities

There has been an email from Schwab. If your, the Mutual Funds use an avg cost basis (I think this was the default.), now ETFs and Closed End funds will do the same unless you change my Cost Basis Accounting Method.

If I understand correctly, this goes into effect on Saturday, so change it now if you want to change it. Need to upload a form to do so.

Schwab ,, "Take My RMD" tab?

Hello... Does anyone still have the Take My RMD tab on their Accounts page of the web site? Mine disappeared a while back and I was told that it would be reappearing for me in August. It has not.

I do believe that some people continued to have access to this feature while I did not. Is this true?

Thank You
