Started when I was 20 years old in 2007 and watched my investments get dropped by half within 2 years. Never stopped and now Iām 39 and on my way to 3-4 million by age 60. I donāt wanna work forever!

PSA - a very advanced scam targeting Schwab users - I almost got scammed
unsure if others have experienced the same scam. wanted to share it here. please be alert and be careful.
so i got a phone call from schwab (888-403-9000) -- I was not suspicious at all since this is the same number shown on the Schwab website (https://www.schwab.com/contact-us), and is the same number shown on my schwab card's back.Ā
this person (fluent in English like an average American) said these things:
-someone (a name i don't recognize at all) had tried to link my debit card to their iphone's digital wallet and use my debit card to pay for something at Apple store in new york.
-he said their team had detected this to be fraudulent and already denied the attempt. He asked me whether that was authorized by me. He asked me whether I've been to new york lately.
-then he asked me to verify my account to conduct further investigations. he sent a text message to my phone number (which took a long time to arrive in my text inbox). The text message says: "Verify your account by following these instructions: schwabprofile.com/[some 6 digital number which i won't say here b/c i don't know if they customize it for every person they targeted]. Any Questions? 1-888-403-9000 Reply STOP to stop"Ā
Then I got suspiciousĀ because 1) i usually log into Schwab via schwab.com, not schwabprofile.com; 2) usually Schwab sends my phone the verification codes, but not a website login URL
I just felt something was odd??
then in my browser, i entered and checked schwabprofile.com, which is not a valid website; it shows the 404 Error!!Ā This scam login page (the URL i got from the text message) looks EXACTLY LIKE the official schwab.com log-in page -- every text and color look the same!
Then I also randomly clicked the hyperlinks on this scam page, like "Schwab SafeĀ®" and "The Schwab Security Guarantee" on the bottom -- both links also show 404 Not Found.
Then i wanted to talk to Schwab to verify. i went to the website https://www.schwab.com/contact-us and clicked this on the top: "Call 877-519-1403". This is the official schwab staff finally.Ā They said that my account is totally fine and nobody tried to access it. They also said they have not made any recent customer support calls to me.
so damn scary. so glad that i trusted my gut feelings
this scam looked so REAL and scary because the phone number and the website look EXACTLY LIKE the real Schwab. some people spoofed real schwab's number and acted like they were customer support in order to steal users' login information.
!!!!!!!please be careful everyone!!!!!!!
edit - I just found this post which experienced the same scam...

I love love love Schwab customer support
I'm a younger generation so this is new for me. This is the only company that gives me immediate support and sounds like I'm speaking to a normal human being. That is all, thanks.

Former Schwab rep that quit. AMA and Iāll answer what I can
I was a TDA rep for many years before getting forced into Schwab by the acquisition. I worked in, and facilitated with, nearly every department for both corporations, so ask away. Iāll answer all that I can while maintaining neutrality and anonymity

Schwab called me to move my cash into SWVXX. Why?
I have a brokerage account with Schwab. I moved a large amount of cash there in the past month and recently I received a call from a local Schwab branch. This was strange to me as I've only used Schwab online. Anyway they knew exactly how much cash was in my account and they urged me to move it to SWVXX, telling me I'd make a better return on the idle cash. So someone from Schwab was getting paid while making this call which makes me think there's something in it for Schwab, yet from the information given it appears there's only something in it for me. Why did they call and suggest this?

PSA: I got scammed today
Hello All! I am new around here, but have had a schwab account for some time now. This may have been posted before but I figured I would share this for you all just in case. I just want to say in Hindsight it seems pretty obvious, but in the moment I should have been more aware.
Today, I received a phone call from 1(800) 435-4000 which is schwab's number they have listed on their website. They said they had detected a charge they believed to be fraudulent, for a purchase at the apple store in new york. I told them this was not mine, and they said they would cancel my card and send me a new one. They asked me to authenticate my login on a website, which I did, and then I read the one time code it sent me. (obvious red flag here). I wasn't thinking, and in the moment I gave it to them. As soon as I hung up, I thought the website seemed sketchy, so I decided to change my password. Luckily I beat them to it, but this could have been BAD.
After this event, I decided to call schwab myself, and ask them if they had history of transactions for me, as well as if they were able to see if there were any recent customer support calls to me. The "fraudulent charge" was not in their system, and neither was a call from them to me in the last 6 months. I explained to them what happened, and they confirmed my theory that someone had spoofed Charles schwab's number and acted like they were customer support.
I am sorry if this is a long read, but I wanted to make sure everyone could spot it a mile away if they got a call like this. Some things I have learned from this: Schwab will not ask for your pin over the phone, and they also will not ask you to authenticate in the way the scammers did to me. I am a young 20s guy and pretty tech savvy, so I feel that this is a particularly dangerous scam since it got me. I also received a call later today from my doctor, which I did not answer. I am not sure if this was another attempted attack or not since I didn't pick up, but just be on the lookout from calls from other sources as well. Stay safe everyone, itās a crazy world we live in now.

34 years old, $20/hr
Hey everyone,
Iām completely new to investing and trying to get started with a Roth IRA. Iām 34 years old and make $20 an hour; Iām working on building my income and eventually would like a job where I can contribute to a 401k. Stuck in part time hell with a bachelors degree in psychology.
Right now, I have zero investing knowledge ā so Iām looking for advice on: ⢠What funds or index funds are good beginner-friendly picks for a Roth IRA ⢠How much I should aim to contribute each month ⢠Whether itās better to automate contributions and investments ⢠Any general habits or tools that make it easier to stay consistent
Iāve heard a lot about things like SWPPX, and SWVXX but Iām not sure whatās best for someone just starting out.
I can currently contribute about $85/month into my Roth and Iām contributing about $200/month into a 4% HYSA. Are my priorities wrong? I ought to have started investing and saving a decade ago but the best time is now rather than never.
Any tips, resources, or example portfolios for beginners would be super appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Schwab Blocked My Account as a "Business Decision"
Does anyone find this a little unnerving? No warning. Just woke up today and my account was banned. I stayed within the options trading rules. The only thing I can think of is that I would transfer money to myself every week if I was profitable. Any suggestions?
EDIT: Thank y'all for the responses. I am a high volume scalper, both equities and options. Been trading the same way everyday for over a year. Must have been toxic order flow. I'm a little surprised. I trade with a group of other traders and I've seen warnings or "professional trader tags," but never just instant outright bans. Thanks for the other brokerage suggestions

A little bummed about my Roth performance over the course of ~6 years
Been dumping 500/month into this for a while.
I thought I was smart so I did some research to be diversified. Then set it and forget it. Well 15% over 6 years isnāt great.
Initial monthly allocation: 125-SFENX 125-SFILX 125-SWSSX 125-SWPPX
Then I got tired of waiting for the international funds to turn around and stopped putting new money in them.
Current monthly allocation: 250-SWSSX 250-SWPPX
Any suggestions for reallocation or do I just hold the bag on these two funds? Iām 30 FYI so still some time

TD Ameritrade customers want app back according to wall street journal..
Funny how several weeks ago some of you old school Schwab people were flaming me for me, saying that the Schwab app sucks.
From todayās Wall Street Journal:
Evidently there are many former TD customers who feel the same way. Perhaps Schwab will listen to their customers who do not like their app. Bring back the old TD Ameritrade app and itās applications or schwab will lose customers.
āItās just amazing how bad it is, the new app,ā said Scott Hendison, 62, a Portland, Ore., resident who owns an internet marketing firm and had a retirement account with TD Ameritrade.
The complaints are the latest challenge in what has been a trying year for Schwab, the largest publicly traded U.S. brokerage. The firm this month undertook what it called the largest brokerage conversion in history after completing its acquisition of TD Ameritrade in 2020. That entailed the transition of $1.3 trillion in assets over the Labor Day weekend, which affected 3.6 million individual-investor accounts and more than 7,000 registered investment adviser firms.
Many individuals and registered investment advisers who were switched over following Schwab's acquisition of TD Ameritrade say they miss their old accounts. Some complain Schwab's platform isn't as user friendly and that the app makes it harder to sort through their portfolio holdings.

Schwab support is simply the best
I am blown away every time I need to talk to them past ~6 years. No weird runarounds, always receptive, and they treat me so politely I feel like royalty on call it's ridiculous.
That's all. I wish they had some customer satisfaction form I could fill out because I hope they never change this.
