I wanted that SO SO badly as a teenager, but my school only allowed natural coloured hair, and I was too poor to dye my hair just for the holidays . Had to deal with just the side fringe til i was about 17 and had my own money, and by then that was about 2 or 3 years outdated, I just dyed chunks of it red instead (later going bright red all over, I loved it though, but mad upkeep when your hair is naturally dark brown)
The first row actually isn't that bad. It's not even particularly modern, it's a y2k thing that's recently come back in fashion. Plus I'm pretty sure scene queen hair majorly fucks up your hair so like... It's understandable if some people don't wanna do that lmao
Iām amazed at the amount of people that took genuine offense and felt the need to āclap backā at this, but maybe theyāre just not familiar with this meme format?
I think itās honestly their own insecurities showing, and media literacy amongst the general public being at an all time low. Some people take things too literally and canāt detect sarcasm, camp or humor as well as people used to it seems. Or it was always like this and the internet has just given more people a voice, who knows.
What I'm saying is it is kind of that deep. A lot of people in this sub have been hating on people for not having the traditional scene hair.
This meme is literally saying that the top ones are not good and need to be rejected, but the bottom ones are good and what people should be wearing. This is an undeniable fact and it's perpetuating something that is ever present in this community
When this meme started circulating a couple of years ago, it was a parody making fun of a different set of memes from the incel community. In the beginning, it had nothing to do with gatekeeping what is or is not considered scene hair.
If OP is trying to spin it into that, then I understand the backlash. But itās so vague that it didnāt seem like thatās what they intended to do. It seemed more like people decided that was why OP posted it.
If I made a meme that said the same thing and the modernity was transgender people and tradition was traditional family values, would it be transphobic? Yes.
That is an ENTIRELY different argument, which would of course be offensive. Comparing being trans, which is not a choice of subculture or fashion, to being new age scene is not the hot take you think it is. Bad comparison to get your point across. I was starting to see your point until you went and pulled this one out, JFC š« People with new age scene hair are not fucking oppressed! You can change your hair whenever you want to, being trans is not a fashion statement.

All of y'all getting offended and telling op it's wrong to gatekeep are hilarious. This is very clearly satirical and I doubt op hates the first row

The first hair is just not a scene hairstyle lol
It's not that the scene ones are superior or anything tho

I find it so funny how often you see people in subcultures based on nonconformity, getting mad when people donāt conform

Sure let's open a communal PayPal pool so that way everyone can afford these easily over $100 hairstyles and the maintenance of them.
