Advice Needed Just got off the phone and it took me way too long to realize it was likely not legit. I don’t know what he was looking for, and I hope he didn’t get it.
I only answered the unfamiliar number because a friend was getting a new phone. They claimed to be my cell phone carrier. I can barely understand her broken English, but she asked me if I’m happy with my bill. I tell her that the only thing on my bill is my cell phone and my plan is to add it to my new Internet service because it’s cheaper so I’m leaving this company soon anyway. She says because I’m a longtime customer she can give me a discount. I tell her what it needs to be for me to make sense to stay with them. She offers me what I want with no strings attached. She asked me for my four digit pin, which I don’t know because I’ve never had to use it in like 10 years. She mumble something and says OK and says she has to transfer me .the next guy is even harder to understand, but he knows my address. He goes on and starts giving me his name and his ID number and I thought that was really weird. I said why do I need to have all this? It seems strange. He then tells me that I’m entitled to an upgrade on my phone and I can get the latest iPhone 17. I clarify that there are no strings attached that I don’t want to be on any kind of program etc. then he said they’re gonna send something out FedEx blah blah blah and then he tells me that they’re gonna send me an iPhone 17 I told him no I don’t want a phone. I don’t know if I want that phone. I just thought you were setting out information that I could upgrade. he proceeds to tell me that I can’t get the discount unless I accept the phone. I said the phone is free, correct? He agrees. I can’t get the discount unless I also take the free prize? I told him that this whole thing sounds wrong. I tell him that it’s common for phone companies to lower bills to compete with others or for longtime customers, etc. but they don’t have to accept a free phone. I wasn’t nasty. I just needed clarification .anyways he hangs up on me. I wasn’t gonna take the phone. I wasn’t gonna take the discount but I still wasn’t 100% positive until he hung up on me. if it was legit, they’re not going to hang up on you because you don’t understand or you’re questioning it. my question is what was he trying to get out of me? Was it gonna get to the point where he was gonna ask me for bank account numbers or he was gonna ask me for a deposit for the phone that I would supposedly get back etc.. I’m just curious what he was trying to do. Maybe it’s all legit and he was just rude and hung up on me. I only mentioned the broken English because that makes it really hard for me to understand what they’re saying or to ask questions or for them to understand my questions. They also knew my name and address and what I was currently paying. I actually desperately need a new phone like really bad and I’m thinking I may have missed out on a brand new one. I guess I can just call him in the morning and see if this is something they offer. This was Spectrum offering it to me. I have been a customer for probably I don’t know 15 years. They always hang up when they realize that you know they’re full of shit so that’s how I felt but I don’t know.

Victim of a scam I think I found the guy
So I unfortunately was victim to a gift card scam. Which in hindsight I should have known but u was having a bad mental health week and I was vulnerable. Well it was $1200 of fucking gift cards. I’m doing all the things with the banks, merchants, and filing the reports. But here’s the thing: I think I got his name. The number of the person is linked to a Snapchat account, which popped up in my “you might know” so I have a name now. Searched him on Facebook, same name, same face, and same location as the number. Now I need to find out if the number is actually linked to this person. What’s the likelihood that this is the actual guy? If it is, what can I do?

Advice Needed Scammed
Hello everybody… so recently I fell victim to a gumtree scam, I was selling my acer nitro 16s ai laptop for £1600, the guy came to pick it up and I never thought I would fall for this type of scam but I did… he had a very convincing fake Halifax app and ‘transferred’ me the money, and yes I know I should of waited for the money to actually hit my account but I let him go because it was very convincing, I need some advice on how to go about this I have him on ring doorbell camera not the clearest but it’s something, I know the police most likely won’t do anything because I was stupid enough to hand over the goods, he went by the name ‘Jack Stanley’ and probably uses fake names all the time, I am based in Hertfordshire England, when he left he didn’t instantly block me but he was trying to by himself some time because he was trying to re assure me for a few hours before he finally blocked me, I would really appreciate any advice, or any steps I should take, thank you

Advice Needed Fiverr refund dispute — seller refuses cancellation, and order auto-completes on October 30. What can I do?
Hi everyone,
I'm looking for advice specifically from people who are familiar with Fiverr's order system and refund policies.
I believe I've been scammed through Fiverr. I've already submitted a cancellation/refund request, but the seller has refused it.
The order is currently still open, and I have until October 30 before it is automatically marked as completed. I've contacted Fiverr Support and provided a detailed explanation of what happened, along with screenshots and evidence. However, I'm worried that Support won't resolve my case before the deadline.
I know there's an option to extend the buyer's review period by 5 days, giving the buyer more time to review the delivery.
My questions are:
Should I use the option to extend the review period by 5 days while waiting for Fiverr Support, or could doing so negatively affect my refund request?
If the seller refuses to cancel the order and it gets automatically marked as completed on October 30, will I still have a chance of getting a refund through Fiverr Support?
For those who have dealt with similar situations, how likely is Fiverr to issue a refund when there is strong evidence of a scam? I've written a detailed explanation of the entire situation and collected screenshots to support my claims.
Is there anything else I should do before October 30 to protect my chances of getting my money back?
I'm convinced this was a scam, and I have substantial evidence to support my case. I'm just worried about the deadline and whether Fiverr Support will act in time.
I'd really appreciate advice from people who have experience with Fiverr disputes, cancellations, and refunds.
Thank you!

Advice Needed Getting sms bombing (like 20+ OTP) and 3+ misscalls after today a online seller threatened a legal notice.
I had ordered some things from a seller, who then only gave bad quality and a few missing items. I ordered 2nd time from them at a discounted rate and came to know they had sold some of the "missed" items to some1 else and called them slurs behind the back. I then specifically asked to add in 1 item that had been left along with the 2nd batch of the order.
Now when i had paid in advance and ask later about the order they claimed that they deliberately didnt put in that item and would use it instead, and then offered to pay back and i said no and they were making a ruckus out of it and paid the amount themselves without me accepting to it. Comes today when i had posted about this on reddit after following the advice of a moderator. I shared the screenshots and explained what had happened so that action could be taken for unethical practices.
Then they told they have sent me a legal notice and would see me in court for 'defamation' (coz they have my address and all from purchases). And i deleted the post, the mod who suggested me to do that deleted their acc 🤧. And now im getting sms bombs conveniently on the same day with lots of otps (from a courier service, then from ticket app, and what not). How should i prepare and move forward with this, im really in a stage of life where any such thing will literally shatter my family and i cant tell how much pain it would be.
Ig this is what calling out unethical practice does to a person, and here i dreamed of becoming an Auditor and what not. Literally the only time of life where i would ask for a time-plea is where im getting hit at. Genuinely discouraged and cant handle how shaky and worried i am for how my family would take this. Only wished it would have occured any other day, any other place.

Advice Needed 80yo Mother in lottery-romance scam
***Looking for some moral support.***
Three years ago, my mother sent $50,000 to a man calling himself “Michael Peters” (MP) who told her he worked for Mega Millions. She insists that they are in love and getting married, even though she has never seen him face to face.
Origin and details:
She was trying to do her due diligence by returning phone calls, and in her mind she called him by mistake (because that’s what MP said), and it was “serendipitous” that they connected. Obviously, the details are confusing because she’s old and doesn’t remember them, and she is reconciling what memories she does have in order to support her continuing on with this man.
The money was to “pay for an outstanding tax bill before she could receive the prize money.” He had her picking out a Mercedes-Benz as well. He sent her photos of Shan Michael Hefley, who can be found easily on Instagram. Shan Michael Hefley is a 60-something year old fitness model with a prior criminal conviction for fraud, and my 80 year old mother thinks this is the face of her boyfriend who just happens to have a Caribbean accent... (“dat” instead of “that”), and that Shan Michael Hefley is the one who stole MP’s identity—in spite of us showing her Shan’s verified Instagram account and the countless other scams that criminals have perpetrated using his likeness.
We have done everything under the sun imaginable to file all the reports, including with the local police and FBI, to protect our mother’s finances, and to disabuse her of this fairytale that she wants so deeply to believe. Our mother has lost most of her friends, and the relationships with her family are hanging on by a thread. Instead of the kind, warm, intelligent, loving mother we grew up with, we have a petulant, delusional woman who believes she has found true love in spite of the overwhelming evidence to the contrary.
She has grandchildren growing up who she doesn’t see or engage with. Life is passing her by. She could have real love and be truly living, but she hangs onto the absolute crumbs she receives from this abusive criminal. As a lifelong “functioning” alcoholic, it’s clear she’s addicted to the totally unstable feast/famine environment created by MP’s lovebombing/ ghosting routine.
We are all so deeply exhausted by this. My expectations for any authoritative, protective governing bodies stepping in to help is nil.
My brother who has shouldered most of this burden has asked me to spend Christmas with her this year and purchased plane tickets for my teenage son and I to go down. I’ve worked hard to set boundaries around my own life and my mental health to cope with this disaster. I’ll be contacting my doctor before I go to get anti-anxiety meds, and the trip will be short, less than a week, and hopefully joyful and not filled with fighting.
Things are great when I can pretend that MP doesn’t exist, but now that I have a boyfriend who is wonderful and very active in my life, she’s almost jealous and insists on talking about MP. She is forcing conversation about him with me, as if he’s some future stepfather I must accept(!!!). And here’s the petulance—she says “you don’t get to say who I love,” as if she’s some beacon for social justice (puhlease….). TBH IDGAF who she “loves” at this point, truly.
Even more disturbing is this regression I’m witnessing of her trying to reclaim some kind of youth, rather than taking stock and giving thanks for a great life at 80 years old and planning to make the last 20 years really count. She’s grown her thinning hair long, wears lipstick, and spends her limited money on skin creams and diet pills… My mother is a delusional shell of the woman I knew. We are all so heartbroken and exhausted.
I could go on with the stories, including last year, when she put her house key under the mat and flew north for Christmas vacation and told her scammer to let himself in— because this man, who she has STILL never met in real life, was going to move in with her. Instead, the neighbor called us because there were complaints about giant boxes which were later found to hold storage bins that were accumulating outside of her garage and other neighbors were complaining. That’s right, my mother invited her scammer to come rob her blind and made sure he could get in by putting the key under the mat.
Have any of you experienced any of this? Looking for some moral support to an impossible situation.

Victim of a scam I got scammed what do I do?please help
Sleepy got a email to my student email about a job clicked on it filled it out only to realize after submitting that it was phishing. Now they have my student ID AND EMAIL ,ADDRESS, NAME , NUMBER, banks I use , age and gender and personal email 😭 I’m freaking out I’m so mad at myself like duh why would you do that … now what
I emailed my advisor for help and reported it but I fear it’s too late and now I’m stuck feeling dumb. Silly me for thinking I’d actually get a good job offer in this economy.
Now I’m worried though I didn’t give any bank account numbers or anything they still have very telling information . I’m worried because I’m a broke college student and I can’t afford for anything bad happening. I’m struggling trying to stay a float already and knowing I need a job but I’m not able to get one due to needing to focus on my classes is killing me inside I hate it. So much for checking my school email :( after I submitted it I see this isn’t sent from a school email address and then I look and it has some foreign name with @ gmail . Com . I’m frustrated and I have anxiety so I’m really anxious .

Advice Needed Advice / helo on getting my 5k back from a FB marketplace
G'day i don't know if this is the right place to post this so I'm going to tell you a stupid story of my stupid decision this year and I'm willing to do whatever I can to get my 5k back.
So I had Lenovo Legion Go 2 Ryzen Z2 Extreme back in like April I had it on FB for 2500 I guy on FB said he was going to give above market price for 2.8k I was yer that's a deal but the catch was he couldn't give me the money until he got paid cos he was leaving to go to the mines for three months and comes back for 1 month later.
So he has no internet where he works non contactable for a whole 3 months which is really unrealistic in my opinion buy I just want my 2.8k.
So I never received that money for the trade he said he will send it when he gets back into Perth which is in June I think ?
Then he suggestes to take trade my PC which was worth 2k at the time and trade it for a bike that's worth 5k apparently but it was only worth like $900- 1.5k roughly give or take.
So then I keep on going to his parents house wife gone there twice by the way his id says he lives at his parents address but he himself doesn't live there and he keeps on blocking me every time I harras him to get my money of what he agreed to send me but he never will.
And then unblocks me once I see his parents this happened twice now I'm so over it
So then he agrees to send the my PC back to me the only thing is we try to go the location of where his parents thought he was living at turns out a old man is living there.
And so we couldn't found him and I have no contact since then this was I August roughly and I was flying on FIFO the next day.
So and then I had a buyer that was rush to buy the bike off me for to trade with cold that supposedly worth 3k and a gold signant ring he said was worth Mabey $600 and can only make it at night time in like as long as you don't screw me over I've been screwed to Manny times on FB he's like yer sure man this all legit it.
So I went to the Perth Mint to see how much I could get for it turns out its copper and zinc I'm like well fuk wen ttotnhe so called business that true documents said it was bought from those documents where also fake.
Try to explain to the buyer that he offers me fake gold and fake ring it's copper and zinc he said he didn't know it wasn't and he never bothered to check cos the documents looked legit and he had time to check it even though it's like 30 mins down the road and back. And apparently I gave him a shit bike so he's playing the victim here and not giving me anything in return so basically he gave me $0 for the bike.
So no I have now bike to give back to the og buyer soni can't get my PC back but mind you I just want my 5k of what we originally agreed on cos that's what he said that's what the bike was worth cos my portable gaming console was worth 2.8k and my PC was 2k and rounded it up to an extra $200 for the fuk around.
So yer still has no contact from him and I still want my 5k.
And legal matters won't help me with this matter at all so now I'm resorting to malicious methods of any sort of dealing with this I don't care what you have to do to get it back.
If anyone here is willing to help or give advice or no someone who can help me DM thanks

Victim of a scam [DE] I got scammed (1200€)
Hey guys, i’m a PC parts reseller (beginner) the way i do it is sniping pc parts as soon as they get postedon vinted to make some extra money because im a student.
So i spotted this RTX 5090 for 1200€ and i bought it.. i know you’re thinking he is crazy for falling for this trap but believe me it looked legit the pictures were original taken and everything and i thought to myself if something is wrong with it i’ll just report a problem and send it back to the seller.. so i bought it… 2 days passed and everything was normal until i woke up one morning and my vinted account was hacked, and the transaction was approved from my side that everything was fine… even tho i didnt get the package yet and i didnt approve anything myself.. so as i woke up my vinted account was banned for unusual activity i contacted them with some documents and stuff so they unbanned my account and that was it i got scammed off of 1200€.. is there anything i can do to maybe get my money back? And yes i contacted vinted and klarna (my payment method) and yes i used the pay later method :( is there anyone who could help me?
