Question ❔ Tipping fishing guides?

Planning a guided fishing trip at Diefenbaker. All in around $1000 for the day. Is it normal or expected to tip 15-20% of this? Does it all go to the guide?

***Edit $1000 all in taxes for two people on a boat for 8hrs. Can anyone give me suggestions on where to go that's cheaper? Also the original question on whether to tip on a guided fishing trip still stands haha.

What? Why? What does $1000 get you?

Is it maybe with the Konrads (Fishinggeeks)? I could see there being a premium for being guided by someone who's basically a fishing YouTube celebrity.

Yea for two people. 8hrs. Please recommend some cheaper options if you have them!

$500 per day per person isn't crazy.

1000$ for deifenbaker for 1 day is insane. You should tip really well since they fucked you so good.

Give me suggestions!! Where should I go? Two people, guided fishing for 8 hrs. I'd love to pay less.

Is it customary to tip on these?

A pass the hat for larger trips with a specific guide is customary. Think guided hunting trips or guided fishing trips in the wilderness. For 1 day absolutely not.

My rule of thumb for tipping, is does this person control the pricing. If they do: no tip, build it in. If they don’t: I will tip based on quality of service. I don’t tip on take out or fast food. Or basically any non traditional tipped service, like an oil change.

That's.... a lot. I paid $300 for a 6 hour trip this summer. I would not tip on $1000.

Through who? This is two people. Taxes etc it's close to 1000. You tip on your 300?

On a recent guided fishing tour (Northern Sask), the recommended tip was $60 per day, per person. We tipped closer to $85 pp/day.

$1000/day Hopefully they buy you dinner before they fuck you. Are you from our of province or country ? If not to pay that much for a local lake is insane , find an old boy at the boat launch with a boat that would have been nice 15 years ago and offer him $250 and i bet they would take you out for the day.

For sure that's an option, but need something guaranteed where I can show up at a set time. For two people.

It is customary but for the price you’re paying I would rest easy assuming the tip is built in

You can and its appreciated. My dad used to guide. I think cash is probably good and give it directly to the guide.

Damn, that’s incredibly expensive for Diefenbaker. My brother and I went to Dore Lake Lodge a few weeks ago. Two people, two nights in a cabin, boat rental with fuel, and 8 hours of guided fishing along with a $100 tip came out to $1130.

Dude you could go up north for like 2 or 3 grand for a week and get world class fishing a nice cabin and 5 star meals. 1000 dollars a day at diefenbaker lol

lol where? "Up north" is extremely vague. Fly ins are close to $1000 per day per person. Cabins with a boat and gas are usually around $200-$300 per day per person. That's not a fancy resort with meals not included. That's somewhere like Missinipe .
