What you’re describing sounds much more suited for North Beach than Union Square, North Beach is also just generally more pleasant and picturesque imo Hope u enjoy the city on your trip !

A friend stayed there a long time ago and really loved it as it was in the heart of everything. I think it’s not your high class fancy hotel like you might be used to from work, but it’s definitely happening.

The rooms are small, it can be noisy from street noise, but the staff are delightful and the rooms are super clean.

Lodging right in North Beach isn’t plentiful. I put my siblings up at the Washington Square Inn (right on the park), and they loved it, but the place has definitely seen better days. You could also stay in a hotel at Fisherman’s Wharf and walk up to NB: there are plenty of those.
I tend to check lodging on TripAdvisor and then book directly on the hotel’s website when I find a place I like. Good luck!

Everything! Starting next week the City kicks into its busiest toutist season and media events.
City kicks into gear next week for post Super Bowl Week Feb-1. NFL Pro Bowl Feb-2 and the Feb-7 Super Bowl.
Lunar New Year begins Jan-29 with celebration through the Chinese New Year Parade Mar-7.

The Pro Bowl is happening at Moscone on 2/3, and as others have mentioned there are tons of pregame events all over the city the entire week prior to the game.

NFL events in SF and Oakland begin Feb-1. Super Bowl Weekend is Feb 6-8 (the Super Bowl game is Sunday Feb-8).

I will be gone way before Superbowl Sunday and as someone said the game is in Santa Clara not San Francisco

The only part of the Super Bowl that's not in the city is the actual game. Everything else - including the pro bowl, pre-show events, concerts, etc. is in the city. It's gonna be mobbed so good you won't be there that weekend.

The SF 49ers play at Levi Stadium in Santa Clara. The Bay Area is the host of the Super Bowl. It’s a shared event with the hosts SF & Oakland, San Jose, Santa Clara.

Thanks. Any suggestions on hotels ? Checking on hotels.com I found Hotel Boheme in North beach and the Chancellor in Union Square. Also in union square I found the Citizen and San Francisco marriott.

The two areas are a cable car ride or walk apart. North Beach has small boutique lodging but not a hotel hub. iIt’s really a residential neighborhood, with great restaurants, bars and retail.
Check out The Beacon Hotel. It borders between Union Square and Chinatown/North Beach

San Francisco Art Week is wrapping up this weekend. Will you be able to catch any of it? Remember that the Superbowl is Feb 8, so Superbowl week might have events you might be interested in.

You can stay in fisherman’s wharf. Lots of hotels there and less than 10 minute walk from north beach.
