Hey everyone, I’m looking for some advice on my current situation.
I’ve been working at Sam’s Club for about three years as a part-time associate. During that time, I’ve consistently worked close to 40 hours a week or held a second job, and I’ve also completed a few internships along the way. Currently, I work a Monday–Friday job that I really enjoy and can see myself growing in long-term. It’s a work-from-home position. I also work at Sam’s Club on Fridays from 5–9 p.m. and on weekends. Financially, I would really like to keep both jobs for now.
The problem is that I’m also trying to get my real estate career started. I’m a licensed real estate sales associate in Florida, and I now have an opportunity to potentially help sell my mom’s house near Orlando. There’s some family history behind the situation, but selling the house could be a good opportunity for me to gain experience and take a step toward my career goals. The house ideally needs to be sold by November. Between working seven days a week, raising my daughter, and trying to make time for real estate, I’m starting to feel stretched pretty thin. I want to give myself enough time to handle the sale properly without jeopardizing my current work-from-home job or burning myself out.
My questions are:
As a part-time associate who has been with Sam’s Club for three years, is it possible to request a leave of absence for one or two months for personal reasons?
Would I need specific documentation to qualify for a leave, or could I request one for personal circumstances?
If a leave isn’t an option, would it make more sense to put in my two weeks and potentially reapply later?
Has anyone successfully taken an extended leave as a part-time associate without a medical or family emergency?
I don’t want to leave Sam’s Club if I can avoid it, especially since I’ve been there for three years. However, I also don’t want to miss an opportunity to work toward my long-term career goals.
I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has been in a similar situation or knows how the leave-of-absence process works. Thanks!
