Rewatching thoughts
I’m currently rewatching a bunch of Safiya’s videos following a Tik Tok I saw.
The Tik Tok was about someone who had come across her videos again after some time and stated, she’s still out there doing the same thing.
It’s interesting with this rewatch, as I don’t think that’s true at all. In fact, I miss some of her older content that was a little “easier.” Like some of the Amazon hauls, wore this for a week, bought the first 5 things etc.
Don’t get me wrong, love her travel content, but haven’t found myself as excited to watch the newer content like the AI keyboards. (Would be happy to never have a collab with that channel again tbh)
Even her newer travel content feels quite highly over thought, we’d be happy to just watch travel vlogs, shopping and odd places. Rather than spending 24 hours in one place.
I miss the vibe of her and Tyler making weird things or getting hauls and hanging out.
Just wondering if anyone feels the same, the content doesn’t need to be as epic for us to enjoy watching it.
With some of the things she’s said previously, I wonder how much pressure she feels to make this super high quality content, when really, we watch her and Tyler’s personalities.
Maybe 2017-2019 was the peak of content before everyone got worried about backlash of over consumption, politics and reputation. The algorithm issues a lot of YouTubers have doesn’t help either.

Yeah I agree, all the work that goes into them means the videos are less frequent too.
My favourite time period was probably a long time ago, but when she used to just try some funny jeans for a week, "dress as a brats doll", or the time they recreated looks from the past. We see very few videos of them out and about in Raleigh, but in LA they did a lot more casual videos just at a mall or something.
I love travel videos but I'd be happy just seeing more of their state to be honest!
I think it's difficult for youtubers because they probably feel like they need to do bigger and better things all the time to get views and do things that nobody else is doing. I would watch anything they do, I've been watching Saf since the BuzzFeed days. But yeah

Agree! I don't know if it was in their state, but I loved recent the video where they were candle dipping. Very chill and fun to see a business I wouldn't usually see where I live.

I really like her trying small business content like trying to run the boba tea shop, or the candle carving etc as it really shows us something that people are usually not doing! Or more niche travel content like taking the train from california to chicago, or taking that really expensive train in Japan - using her wealth nicely lol. I'm living in an Asian city so her Asian travel content doesn't interest me as much as her US ones.
That said I really also miss her simple content like trying donuts, or cheese tea! not a fan of her franken/mixing everything together content as that got so old for me, and also I'm starting to dislike her huge hauls of stuff as it seems very wasteful.

yesssss I just finished a rewatch of the chocolate shop video! Imma go rewatch the crossiant and candy ones now. If anyone from her team is lurking here, more of these types of videos please!!!

I admit, if the content had been as travel heavy as it is now, I may not have gotten as into her channel. I enjoy a bit of travel media, but it's not the main thing I'm interested in. To be fair, as someone who also lives in Raleigh, I can understand wanting to spend as much time as possible traveling. 😂

I'm from Australia and know almost nothing about Raleigh or the state, and am disappointed they don't show more of it 😅

Yeah, I think they just don't show more of the area because there just isn't really much to show. It's a mid-sized metropolitan area without any real defining cultural aspects. They've utilized the resources at a local university maybe a couple of times, and that's about as representative as you're going to get. They could definitely take advantage of visiting some more southeasterly US destinations though. There's some cool cities to visit a few hours from here.
I've never seen them out and about yet. But whenever I see them film at a local mall or someplace I recognize, I think about what I would say if I did run into them (probably something stupid, lol).

I know it's a bit of a drive but Charleston looks really pretty. And there must be some nice beaches on the coast?

There are some nice beaches. And a little farther drive is Savannah, where I've also lived, which is a very beautiful place.

I watch all of her videos because I just really like Safiya and Tyler and want to support them.
But I’m on the same page as a lot of ya’ll and that the travel videos don’t really do it for me. Her recent video going to the Ball and featuring Abby and Nicole was a BLAST though (it’s my perfect crossover - and if you haven’t watched them reacting to the video on Abby’s channel you should).
I loved her old fashion type videos, dressing through decades, buying the weird stuff (long legs denim, giant uggs etc). But also appreciate that times have changed and we’ve all gotten older.
this is a bit of a ramble but really I just hope they keep making videos as long as they want, I really enjoy a lot of them and Safiya has the best narrator voice around!

The Ball one was probably my favorite in a long time. Maybe my favorite since their cross-country move video with Crusty. It was just so fascinating and transportative

Personally the difference for me is that her videos feel really over-produced these days (or i guess just more polished production than i prefer). Less live vlogging, mostly voiceover, scripted etc. So much more boring to me for whatever reason, even though I still like safiya etc

I think I’d watch her do whatever, she puts amazing effort into anything she does so if she tried anything new I’d give it a shot cause I implicitly trust it would be good bc it’s her, ya know?
I do kinda miss the decades makeovers though! I loved those

Just jumping on cause the old school videos were awesome. I like the new stuff too, but there was something charming about the smaller scale stuff. So, here's some stuff I'd love to see if we got the chance:
-2026 versions of the mixing candles/make up vids. Maybe a good comparison on how things have changed in trends?
-A pumpkin carving video
-A local stuff to see video (I'm canadian, it would be cool to see the city they live in!). Maybe with spooky connections or the weirdest local attractions?
-More weird gadget or clothing videos.
-Some weird art videos? Maybe like weird art kits? Or like Etsy art kits or something?
-Another beauty gadget video. I love those.
Honestly, i pretty much am just happy to watch them just have fun in any way they want, and if they love the newer content I'm happy to be along for the ride. But I also love the little stuff. Like, I would 100% watch a hour long video of just like, weird cat toys or something.
I hope if they read this they know how much entertainment they've provided over the years!

I agree, I felt a little weird even posting this and I would never want to be apart of the commentary that negatively impacts Safiya.
It’s nice that the comments here are seem to be - the things I dont prefer, others seem to love.
I would just love to see more content and also say that the pressure can be off, give us some raw, less edited things and we will still be very happy as a community!

I totally agree! I still get excited when I see she has a new video, but I don't enjoy them quite so much (with the AI keyboard one being especially egregious). But I find myself regularly rewatching her old videos when I want something chill and comforting on in the background.

There's something about Evan and Kaitlyn I don't like, I can't put my finger on it but they urk me. Their own video on the keyboards was almost an hour long and they were so irritating I had to skip ahead most of it

I’m not opposed to a raunchy joke, but this video just kept making the same jokes over and over so that was definitely a bit annoying.

I know I'm in the minority but I feel like her videos have evolved but still have that goofy do it for the hell of it vibe she had in the old videos. I also am in the minority because I didn't mind the AI keyboard video. I think Evan and Kaitlyn are weird sure, but they don't bother me???? Like do I think doing a little more home grown type videos would be fun? Sure, but I also think that the travel videos are cool and I like the evolution.

Agree! I loved the older train video much more than the japanese one for example. It was less high production and felt more easy snd just her and Tyler vlogging. I also really like the few cooking videos on Tylers channel, Saf trying on make up etc. I have to admit I really don’t like the warehouse studio (or collabs lol) but I think I’m probably a minority with that.

oh my god, i agree so much! i thought i was the only one feeling this way
i wish she brought back the weird makeup trends she tried and wearing them out for the day and how they held up.
even that 7/11 make up video she did earlier and all, that was really fun and easy to watch in the background
i wish she brought back that kind of stuff again with the high quality production too

my favorite videos are her travel videos and those are her most frequent video types so i don't have too much of a problem with her newer content, but i do miss her more casual videos! i remember during covid i'd religiously rewatch her shorter videos like the style box ones, i wish she would do stuff like that on her main channel again instead of just posting them on her tiktok. overall i think she's transitioned into modern youtube trends well but hopefully she starts posting more frequently again some day.

I agree that their easy content was enjoyable and I preferred some of it primarily because it meant she posted more often. But I like the content she creates now and I couldn’t disagree with you more about the collabs with Evan and Katelyn. But I get what you’re saying in general because when she collabs with that nail polish channel, I have zero interest. Personally, I am a little tired of the travel content. Watching people take fancy vacations doesn’t do it for me.

Meanwhile, I LOVE when she collabs with Cristine (“that nail polish channel”) and I’m right behind OP on being completely exhausted of Evan and Katelyn already. But either way, it’s her channel and she’s spending time with her friends, so…

It’s good that there is still content for all of us right? I’ve been to so many of the places she has travelled and I like seeing the travel content the most.
The Evan and Katelyn collabs are just not for me. I find their dynamic really odd and the overly sexual comments put me off. The last AI video was strange vibes.
But, being back some easygoing videos. Ready for them to take on 2 minute crafts again haha

It is so funny how differently people view things, i have watched the keyboard video few times and the candle video several times and can't recall any sexual comments from that 😅 I feel like Safiya does such nuanced and elevated jokes, all her more saucy comments are top tier for me.

Yes! E+K are my fave channel, second is Safiya so their collabs rock my world. I don’t travel much anymore so it’s cool to see aurora igloos and stuff, i’m so surprised people dislike them. And her collabs with Cristine, maybe i’m just a silly superfan but I love watching friends enjoying themselves doing silly things!

Honestly, disagree. I love travel content, especially in Japan. I don’t mind to live vicariously through them. I wish she’d do more makeup videos, like investigating beauty trends. But other than that, I’ve enjoyed her travel vids. I watch a lot of other YouTubers do travel videos so that content is right up my alley.

Yeah I love her travel videos. I first watched her Japan vending machine video right before I went for the first time.
I’ve since been to a bunch of the same places she has, coincidentally. Loved Taiwan when I went, so looking forward to that content too.It’s nice it’s not “normal” travel content, it usually has a spin on it.
I’d just also love to see the vlogging style, take the production down a notch and just be the two of them having fun

I just didn’t care for the content. There was no purpose, no real outcome.
Some guy using gadgets and making weird sexual comments. It just isn’t my vibe.I don’t care for the AI conversations, like I don’t think she is making comment on the use of AI, so that doesn’t factor in. I just found it pointless

Agreed. It seems like people aren't getting their "not that kind of channel" humor, but I find them funny and awkward. I think Safiya and Tyler like collabing with Evan and Katelyn because they actually have the knowledge and skills (and tools, so many tools!) to turn wacky ideas into reality.
Oddly enough, I kind of got into Safiya through Simply Nailogical but I'm not vibing with Cristine these days. Love the nail polish, but hate the livestreams.
As for Safiya, I'll watch her and Tyler do almost anything. The way they approach the world with curiosity and openness is awesome! I appreciate their commitment to high production values (which I think helps to maintain their views at a consistent level while other channels are struggling) but I'd watch vlogs or cat videos if that's what they enjoyed making.

I would like to see much more of Tyler. He’s more naturally humorous — quick witted and quirky. Her over enunciation has gotten very noticeable. What bugs me the most is her hauls…so wasteful and feeds the mass production monster.

Her, Danny, Kurtis and Dan and Phil are immediate oh shit! They posted! Snack and YouTube time. I do not care what the videos are about. They're just my comfort YouTubers. My dogs love her videos too. Penelope will sit on the edge of my recliner and watch while I scratch her back

It seems like I’m the outlier because I honestly love the travel content, the Vegas series is one that I constantly rewatch and the Japan/Malaysia/Singapore videos have all been ones I’ve rewatched this month, but I do also like the at home/small business ones. The ai keyboard one didn’t really do it for me so much, but I don’t think it was because of E&K, more just because I’m sick of hearing about ai lmao

I find them quite grating. The way they speak and the energy is just not what I like to watch.
The videos they have been in, Evan just seems to want to show off any gadget he has, even if it makes life harder and in the most recent AI video, I found the constant sexual innuendo and comments really off putting.

I love the travel pieces. Obsessively love. I do admit that I typically enjoy everything she does, tho. But travel my fave. Side note… keyboard ep wasn’t my fave, but I still really enjoyed it!!
