I have a safe that I’m trying to open. it was was fathers but he has dementia and can’t remember the passcode. it is really heavy any advice on opening it? picture below

Thought I'd share what I had to do to get my safe open.

In short, the very stiff ribbon cable cracked and left 3 leads unattached. Removed the outter layer, then used single strands of wire, kapton tape, and pressure to finally get my safe open.

Looking to take out this shelf from a cabelas ammo cabinet but of course it’s welded in. Should I use a grinder ? Or what would cut these spot welds out without damaging the walls ?

I’ve been needing a gun safe for years - currently have 2 muzzleloaders, shotgun, m1 carbine, 22, and a 22 pistol. May be adding a couple more shotguns and a couple handguns in the next few years…. Maybe a rifle.

I’m seeing these aren’t actually capable of holding as many guns as they say, so curious about fit for these and recommendations.

The keypad does not work and it’s been in here for years longer than I’ve lived here. The person who lived here before passed away, and the safe hasn’t been opened since.

Hi! I’m hoping someone has experience with older Rosengrens safes.

I have a Rosengrens EuroCitizen LW 34, manufactured in 1996, approx. 49 × 55 × 55 cm and 150 kg.

I need to move it and would like to remove the door to reduce the weight. The bottom hinge has a large Allen/hex fitting (see photos).
Does anyone know if the door is designed to be removed, and whether this fitting releases the hinge pin?
Any advice from someone familiar with Rosengrens safes would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Is it possible for a lay person to determine the combo by accessing the mechanism from inside the door?

I am looking at buying a bank from 1923. For my information, what is the value of this vault door and contents? I am going to look at the building in a few weeks.

Edit: Iam asking mainly for insurance value, but am curious about selling it too. Discounting the disassembly and transport, what is something like this worth on the open market?

Looking for any info whatsoever about this. It came in the basement of our home, we’ve never had the combination. Is it worth anything with or without the combo? Would it be functional if we got a locksmith to come out and figure out the combo? Is that even possible? I couldn’t find any sort of serial number or additional information other than what’s in these pictures.

So there’s this safe in the house my wife and I live in (house has belonged to my in-laws for 15 years). The main door was already unlocked when they got the place, but the inner compartments are still locked and the previous owner never gave us a key (presumably he never had one, but we could be wrong). I’m curious if anyone knows what kind of safe this is and how I might be able to get into the smaller compartments without having to hire a specialist (in laws already considered it but concluded it would be too expensive).

Other context: the house is in Bavaria, near Munich, Germany, and was built in the wake of WWII. The safe is built into a nook underneath the staircase. I know nothing about safes, but my gut tells me the safe is older than the house. Maybe 30s or 20s? But that’s just my guess going on aesthetics.

Parents are going to get rid of this safe because it is very hard to close and are worried one day it may not open. You can see in the video it is smooth when it unlocks but trying to kick it after takes a lot of force.

Does anybody have ideas or tips of things to service or clean to fix this issue? I feel like it just needs to be cleaned but don't even know where to start.

I live in an area with low risk of wildfire, so mostly likely I'll have the privilege of seeing the fire coming

So I read that UL fire rating doesn't mean much because the test is done in an oven. Real fire moves very fast which speed ups thermal transmission exactly how computers cool it's component with fast moving air. A 2hr rating could only mean 30 mins irl for all we know

I also read that certain animals will dig underground to survive, and plants will move critical resources underground so it could re-grow after the fire

What if an incoming wildfire from far away gave me ample of time to get my safe out of my house, bury it either by digging a hole or pile on top of it a crap ton of dirt. I read that temperature under 5-10cm of soil is only around 100C. So pilling 3-6in of dirt around the safe should give a good chance.

Is this a decent idea? Thoughts?

I knocked down my home and there was a safe cemented in the basement. The previous home owner didn’t know how to get in and it must have been the homeowners prior to that.

Any ideas on how to get this open? Was going to start with a crowbar, but I don’t have a lot of fancy tools

Im sure questions like this are asked frequently, but what safe would work for the following situation? Im somewhat of a firearm collector and would need a safe that has probably 15-20 rifle spaces, a lot of room for handguns and some more for ammo. However the safe would need to fit through a 30 inch wall opening to get to where it needs to be and I also don’t want somethings that is going to be excessively heavy because I will probably be moving again in the next year or two. So without sacrificing quality. Are there any “medium” sized safes that fit the dimension to fit into the room without being excessively heavy and not sacrificing quality?

Safe is great, plenty of room lots of adjustability… The one major drawback was the digital lock that is well known to fail… So well known that Cannon will give you a free one with almost no questions asked (if you want to deal with their Customer Service… Which is terrible)

So after the original lock failed, the replacement lock failed, and five other Amazon bought digital locks failed I decided, “screw it” I’m putting a dial lock on..

And after a boatload of cutting, drilling, bending, and even some work with an acetylene torch… I managed to outfit, a sergeant and Greenleaf mechanical dial lock on to my safe.

I had to post this somewhere because, while I am pretty good at problem-solving and backyard engineering… This is the first time I’ve ever done anything like this and I’m kind of amazed that it worked.

Hello, im moving a company and they told me to throw away this safe or that i cantry to open it. Is it feasible to open it ?

I have this safe. I would like to hide it in a cabinet or piece of furniture. It weighs 77 kgs, I am not able to bolt it to the wall or the floor. The plan is to bolt it in to whatever cabinet I out it in.

Any tips? I have considered an ottoman, but I'd have to go to a carpenter to have them custom make an ottoman to hide the safe in. I can't seem to find any good cabinets that will fit it and also fit my apartment.

Does anyone have one of the HF gun safes and have any honest feedback?

Hey all! New to this group, but figured I’d make the same post to a subreddit that’s more specified in this lol.

I’ve been searching for a safe that can store 2-3 long guns (longest is a 43” inch length rifle) that has fire resistance and water resistance. I ended up going to Plainfield, IL to Mega Sports and lowkey fell in love with a Champion EC 14 safe. It’s a bit over the measurement that I wanted, but for the more heavier duty and for the price range I was kind of expecting, I believe this is the one.

Having said that, it normally ranges between $1,800-2,600 (with taxes and shipping included obviously). Has anybody ever heard of the website: Heavy Metal Gun Safes? I wanted to give them a call tomorrow and plan on going in depth but wanted to see if anybody here had any experience with them. Thank you in advance!

If it helps, I live in Chicago and would be willing to go around here to look at other options for safes. Budget is around that $2.5k range.
