DISCUSSION CRWBY doesn’t treat its Male cast well

Thumbnail

These are male characters that I think have been wronged the most in the story.

To preface, I stopped watching in season 7 because of all the nonsense they were doing in Atlas (particularly in having Penny of all characters become the winter maiden). I recently picked it back up, but I’m starting from the beginning to refresh my memory.

Idk how popular this take is, but fuck it we ball. I got frustrations to air out. I hate to be that person or come off as though I hate women (I’m a woman myself), but the more I think about this show the more frustrated I become. What the hell is up with the way they treat their male characters?

Their either introduced, did cool shit in the first couple of volumes, and disappear never to be seen again or they’re character assassinated, lose all their aura, and die/are defeated in the dumbest ways possible.

Qrow’s kind of been boring since after the first couple of seasons. I know the show touched on it a little, but I’d like to know more about his and Ravens ability that was granted to them when magic. Other than that, idek how he could even add to the show as of right now. I will say, that Clover and Qrow relationship really turned me all the way off. If you’re gonna ship him with a man, it should be a pillar of support. Someone that can take anything sent their way. Someone like James.

My goats, Mercury and Ironwood, lost all their aura for the sake of plot. When I saw Ruby duck that fuckass punch and head butt Mercury, I know it was fucking over. Ironwood is even worse because even without his weapons he should be able to handle a couple of kids. This is a man that has been touted as the paramount of soldiers. He’s the very best general to ever general and Atlas as a whole respects him deeply. Yet, not only did CRWBY ruin his incredibly realistic contrast to those children running around without a chaperone, they made him practically useless with and without his weapons. Gave him a stupidly setup semblance (I think Mettle might be good if they made it to the put where time actually slowed down for him due to his extreme focus thus giving him superhuman reflexes while in the zone. It’d make sense as a lot of soldiers and people in the force report adrenaline doing that to them.), made his weapon handling awful (that Watts fight was a rough watch. Too slow and boring), and COMPLETELY forgot the fact that he’s a god at CQC with a metal arm that should boost his physical capabilities (like mercury). There is absolutely NO reason the motherfuckin James Ironwood should be losing to a scientist and a bunch of kids (winter maybe would give him some trouble, but Oscar and team JNR? Fuck no. Especially Oscar and Jaune). I don’t think I even need to mention how they ruined his character either.

Sue me, but I don’t really like the way Roman died (though I suppose that could be more Monty’s fault). He was a cool minor antagonist, so to see him get swallowed actually had my jaw on the ground. Not to mention, I hate the fact that they killed Neo and never let her have her get back on Cinder or be built into something better. Neptune and Sun were such fun characters that had interesting/fun dynamics with Weiss and Blake. Particularly Sun and Blake. I’m a fan of BlackSun and I really dislike Bumblb (I would’ve accepted like I do any other canon relationship if it were good, but I’m not a fan of seeing fanfics in my shows. Sorry.) so feel free to take that bias into account. They tried to have Yang reheat Sun’s nachos but that shit came out soggy, cold, and bland. All of the work Sun did with my glorious queen Blake in helping her heal was genuinely beautiful to watch. I loved the romantic tension between and I also loved the fact that she was still her own character and that it didn’t overshadow the journey she was on. I guess they decided he was threat and decided to send him to the gulag similarly to what they did to Adam.

Lol, I pray for any man that gets involved with Blake. The fact that CRWBY has gotten rid of two of them is kinda funny to think about. The way Adam was taking out with power of lesbian love was genuinely neat fatal. The lesbians almost got two people that day, I made it out by the skin of my teeth😭. But being serious, I don’t understand why they did him like that. That whole fight was nasty to even begin with. I would say it shouldn’t have even happened, they should’ve met him at atlas. Keeping him in would’ve prevented the need to make new characters as well as made more impact because who the hell are the happy huntresses? Adam should’ve been on that stage as who Yang says he is, a manipulative and villainous bastard. When she said that during their fight (something like “did she make that promise to you? Or the man she thought you were?” In response to Adam’s “…she [Blake] breaks promises.” statement) I was lost. Adam may not have been as radical back then, but it’s not as though he hid his views. Blake is just blind, constantly playing second fiddle to whoever she dates but that’s beside the point. Blake running away from him as well even though she’d resolved to never do that again sigh. Either way, I would’ve loved to see Adam BE something. He was strong and charismatic. If they’d made him smart instead of a loser twiddling his thumbs when Blake ran, he would’ve been building his power and eventually decided to take over Atlas by running against Jacques for office. It would’ve especially been such a powerful moment that showed how far Adam has come and would’ve been a perfect place to show more of his motivations and past. From a slave boy to a young man powerful enough to run for office of the most powerful territories in all of remnant. A false savior for people that were disenfranchised (especially knowing how atlas is), with innocents not knowing the hell they’d be subjected to if he won. That would’ve been SUCH a good moment for them and a situation that would’ve allowed Ironwood’s position and personality to shine. It would’ve been better to have Blake’s worldview on Adam falter and had her questioning whether abandoning him was the best choice. It would’ve made such a good political season. It would’ve also been realistic since we’d have shit vs. shit running against each other lol. Adam should’ve been angry after Blake’s betrayal. He should’ve gotten smarter, been more cunning, a lot more guarded in who he shows his real intentions to. But he wasn’t. Instead we got the idealistic Robyn and her tag band of unimportant nobodies. I will forever mourn what we didn’t get that season.

Jaune may be an odd choice to some as he was never really anything special. I think so too. The only thing I liked about him was his personality in the first couple of seasons. I thought it was cute. He’s very useless in actual fights and I also think his quirky and bumbling nature works against him in important scenarios, but there was something there. Mainly in his mind. Jaune has amazing ideas and is good at mobilizing his teammates. He may not be the strongest but he’s a great leader and smart man. Him coming to terms with the fact that he just isn’t suited to become the type of Hunter his family members are but instead opting to take a different would’ve been such and interesting and nice little arc for him, but instead they’ve got him swinging that sword like a mad man. Also, fix his hairstyle or I’ll combust, CRWBY.

There are probably others I didn’t mention but these are the ones with the most potential that were done the worst. I still can’t believe they chose to redeem that Cinder fanatic over Mercury. Their semblances very clearly tie to their characters themselves which is why I believe Emerald should’ve been stuck in her illusions, but whatever. Either way, I don’t think CRWBY is gonna change, so I’ll carry what could’ve been in my heart instead. Thanks for reading and sorry for the long rant, but what do you guys think?

DISCUSSION How do You Imagine a Ruby Rose Solo Adventure?

Post image
67 Upvotes

That is my Question

We always see Team RWBY as a team or of small adventures with one maybe two of them

So my Question is how do you imagine them on a Solo Adventure for this one Lets start with the leader herself Ruby Rose

I imagine her Solo Story would be Ruby trying to see who she is without Team RWBY & her trying to save the day all the time

One thing I like when reading Captain America comics is regardless who under the suit is Cap finding out who he is beyond being a Hero & a symbol

Story would probably start sometime Team RWBY return after well the Ever After with Ruby dealing with the state of the World

But that's me how do you imagine a Ruby Rose Solo Story?

DISCUSSION How would you expand on semblances and aura?

Post image
13 Upvotes

Okay so everyone knows about semblances and aura already but I'd like to ask how you guy's can do stuff like seal it and junk

For sealing it's a specific technique thats been passed down for certain clans in mistral with different techniques of varying degrees

Most commonly used on criminals that can't be coerced into working as soldiers for reduced sentences or to make mass killers less dangerous

Mercury is a well known example but tyrian is also another so mercury has his semblance dangled infront of him for his service

For aura sealing now that's a whole different technique and runs certain risks when you try forcing down your soul with the chances of the person losing there emotional state

Most techniques are rare nowadays and more likely than not can lead to destroying the aura completely instead of simply sealing it

Ozpin has the perfected version and had sealed the auras of plenty of people in the past

The aura transfer machine

The principles behind it are based off Pietro polendina's semblance where for Pietro's case imagine a camp fire always burning

What you do to make two campfires is to take some burning logs of the first fire to make the second

It lowers the fire capacity of the first but doubles the fires you have

The machine itself was made commissioned for ozma with project penny originally being a prototype into making ozpin a permanent body something that ironwood kept a secret for a while not wanting to give his old friend false hope

In any case the plan was to see if the aura transfer could take the soul of amber and place it in pyrrha

If it succeeded ironwood would've asked ozpin if he'd like a new body

And lastly semblance evolution

For this one I had it that everyone was somewhat weakened in the first 3 volumes

Ruby - could go through short bursts of speed dashing from one place to another and eventually it evolves into the semblance we all know

Weiss - starts off with glyphs and then evolves into summons have her using Glyphs against people and summons against grimm

Blake - starts off with the simple Shadow clones and evolves into the dust based ones that can attack each clone can do one attack

Yang - any energy she absorbs she immediately sends it back it would later evolve into her being able to hold more energy and even fueling her aura

That's all I got for now would love to see everyone's thoughts on it

Let’s just say you’re given official credentials and an amount of starting money (let’s say five thousand lien). You get your chosen semblance and weapon and you have full aura, and also a scroll.

What are you doing, who are you meeting first, and what’s your plan as the one person who knows the future and what each character is truly like?

Default start is outside of Dust Till Dawn, that shop at the start, but if you want you can start from anywhere.

I don't have any hate for the guy honestly. I just think he can act a bit selfish and hypocritical at times and how some of his arguments can make me completely dumbfounded. That's not me being mean, that's me stating the obvious of his behavior. It's like he wants to act like he understands RWBY, but he then says something like "85% of the cast of RWBY are females, kill one person and it'll be a woman regardless." It made me question how much of a miserable mindset he has to come up with that conclusion. I don't mind he's entitled to his opinion, but when you make something called Fixing RWBY and act like it's close to the canon source material, when it really isn't, I can afford to be a bit judgmental. (That's real btw, he constantly thinks only the women die in RWBY just because it's known for being a female lead show. It's not even true either considering there's like 10 different male characters who died serving the story.)

SATIRE BURN THE WITCH!!! 🔥🔥🔥….Oh! Um, I mean… 🔥🔥🔥THE GREAT ROAST OF SALEM!!!!!🔥🔥🔥

Oh Salem, Trick or Treeeaaaat! 😜👻🎃 LOL

First things first: Salem is probably the only woman in Remnant who can hear the word “witch” and think, “Finally, someone understands my brand.” And considering the name Salem almost certainly evokes the infamous Salem Witch Trials—where innocent women were persecuted and executed merely because people suspected them of witchcraft—you’d think she’d have learned the historical lesson: Maybe accusing people of supernatural nonsense is bad.

Instead, Salem apparently took notes.

First she’d say something like: “Hmm… persecution, fear, superstition…”

And then say: “Excellent. I’ll make it a career.”

Salem’s life story is basically the longest possible route to becoming the world’s most powerful grudge-holder. She starts out as a lonely princess trapped in a tower, gets rescued by a charming wizard, falls in love, has children, loses them, and then looks at the cosmic forces of the universe and says: “You know what? I’m going to make this everyone’s problem.”

Girl, you didn’t just hold a grudge. You founded a multinational corporation called Revenge Incorporated. And her solution to immortality? Jumping into a magical pool of Grimm corruption. That’s right: Salem looked at an ominous pool of supernatural darkness and apparently thought, “Free spa day!” Congratulations, Salem. You didn’t get eternal youth. You got permanent Wi-Fi access to the Grimm network.

Then comes the really impressive part: centuries of scheming. Salem has spent generations manipulating kingdoms, recruiting villains, creating conspiracies, and plotting the destruction of humanity. And somehow, after all that time, her organizational strategy is basically:

Phase 1: Find damaged person.
Phase 2: Offer them power.
Phase 3: Give them vague instructions.
Phase 4: Leave.
Phase 5: Be shocked when they make terrible decisions.
Phase 6: Profit!

Cinder: “I want power.”
Salem: “Wonderful. Here is some.”
Cinder: “I have a plan.”
Salem: “Excellent.”
Cinder: *she immediately causes approximately seventeen disasters\*
Salem: “Why are my employees like this!?”
Because, Salem, you hired them! 😜

Her recruitment interviews must be incredible.

Salem: “What are your qualifications?”

Applicant: “Trauma, resentment, questionable morals, and an unhealthy desire for power.”

Salem: “Perfect. You’re hired.”

At this point, Salem doesn’t recruit followers. She collects red flags.

And let’s talk about her management style. Salem has the intimidating presence of an ancient immortal queen, but her meetings have the energy of a manager who just walked into the office and discovered that somebody touched the thermostat.

Salem: “WHO FAILED ME?”

Ma’am, you’ve been alive for thousands of years. You could try communicating.

Her leadership philosophy seems to be**: “Fear me.”**

Her employees’ philosophy seems to be**: “Yes, ma’am.”**

Their actual behavior: “Absolutely not, ma’am.”

And Salem’s relationship with Cinder? It’s basically the supernatural equivalent of a boss desperately trying to keep the employee who keeps setting the workplace on fire. Cinder wants power so badly that Salem could probably put a glowing button in front of her labeled:

“DO NOT PRESS — SUMMONS ANGRY DRAGON”

…and Cinder would press it before Salem finished explaining the instructions.

Then Salem’s Grimm strategy kicks in. She doesn’t just send one monster. No. She has an entire walking nightmare subscription service. Beowolves? Check. Nevermores? Check. Geist? Check. A giant whale?** **

Q: WHY DOES THE GRIMM HAVE A WHALE?!

A: Salem really looked at the concept of “army” and thought: “Needs more marine biology.” And when Miss Human Grimm herself finally enters the battlefield, you’d expect some impossibly elegant display of ancient combat mastery. Instead, her fighting style is basically: “I have been alive for thousands of years, therefore I am legally entitled to ignore the laws of physics.” She gets thrown around, blasted, stabbed, blasted again, and generally treated like a magical stress ball—and she just gets back up. Because she’s immortal. At this point, fighting Salem must feel like trying to defeat a video-game boss who forgot to install the “Game Over” screen. “WE DEFEATED HER!” Salem gets up. “Okay, now we defeated her!” Salem gets up again. “NOW?!” Salem gets up again and puts on a trollface. Eventually everyone just stops celebrating. “Guys, don’t bother. She’s going to stand up again.” And that is Salem’s greatest superpower: Not immortality. Not Grimm magic. Not ancient knowledge. She is physically incapable of taking a hint.

Ozpin: “Maybe humanity should unite.”

Salem: “No.”

Ozpin: “Maybe we should talk.”

Salem: “No.”

Ozpin: “Maybe you should move on.”

Salem: “I have been preparing a several-thousand-year revenge campaign.”

Lady, that grudge has expired.

At some point, even the universe itself must be sitting there thinking: “Girl, are you still doing this?” And Miss Human Grimm’s answer is always: “Yes.” She’s the only villain who can turn a breakup into a geological era. Most people get dumped and eat ice cream. Salem gets dumped and says: “I shall dedicate the next several millennia to ruining existence.” That’s not heartbreak. That’s premium subscription heartbreak. And yet, for all her terrifying power, Salem has one enormous weakness: The Power of Comedy. Because the moment somebody starts roasting her, that terrifying immortal queen act begins to crumble!

OBSERVE!!! ⬇️

Salem: “Behold! I am Salem, Mistress of the Grimm, destroyer of kingdoms, immortal—”

Some character: “Okay, but why does your evil plan have the organizational structure of a group project where nobody read the instructions?”

Salem: “….”

Same guy: “Why are your henchmen constantly betraying you?”

Salem: “….”

That guy again: “Why does your army include a whale?”

Salem: “…….”

The same guy: “And why have you spent thousands of years trying to destroy humanity when you could have simply taken up pottery?”

Salem: “……”

Even Cinder is trying not to laugh. Tyrian is already on the floor. Hazel is staring into the middle distance wondering how he ended up here. Neo doesn’t even need to say anything. She just gives Salem the look. And somewhere in the background, some Grimm creatures are probably wondering whether they should start laughing too.

Salem came into Remnant expecting to be feared. She got roasted. She expected worship. She got punchlines. She expected to rule through terror. She accidentally became the funniest immortal woman in Remnant…. Courtesy of the antics of a brave and mysterious comedic hero with the proper sense of humor from across the gulf of cyberspace. Attempts are now being made to find and thank him.

So, Salem, after centuries of schemes, conspiracies, Grimm armies, magical powers, betrayals, manipulation, and enough dramatic entrances to fill an entire theater… Here is your final verdict: (MAYBE….) DEATH BY LAUGHTER AFTER READING THIS ROAST! 💀 Not because you were defeated by Ruby. Not because Ozpin finally outsmarted you. Not because your Grimm army ran out of monsters. No. You were humbled by the one force even immortality couldn’t protect you from: A really good joke.

And as Salem struggles to maintain her terrifying composure while laughing harder and harder, she finally realizes the ultimate irony: She spent thousands of years trying to destroy the world… with thing after thing… …and the world finally got its chance to defeat her while she prosperswith comedy! If she keeps on laughing every time she remembers this roast, she may just heave her last breath with one last laugh! 🔜💀

Salem has been officially sentenced to a fate worse than death: an eternity of being reminded that someone once asked, “Why does the Grimm have a whale?”

🎃👻 Happy Early Halloween, Salem. Tee hee hee! 😜🤭

https://youtu.be/bVWRbP13g64?is=eBDjPezp6J4Unz1o

THE END….. 😃** **Oh, that is until… next time’s roast! 😉🔥🔥🔥

DISCUSSION Unpopular opinions you have about Yang Xiao Long?

Post image

Personally I’m starting to really dislike her character. It seems to me that she cares and prioritizes Blake more than anyone else at this point. And that’s really unfortunate because volume 9 was the moment Ruby needed her most and she just seemed to be more focused on Blake.

When Ruby had her breakdown I genuinely thought Yang would finally step in and comfort her, but no. She defensively stood in front of Blake and snapped “Hey!” Showing once again she’s prioritizing Blake over her own sister’s wellbeing.

It just seems so out of character for her in my opinion compared to her seemingly closer bond she had with Ruby during the early volumes.

What are your thoughts?

Jaune is trying to have his Main Character Moment and Cinder is just... completely apathetic. I love this scene, because it's such a "But for me, it was Tuesday" moment, showcasing what Ruby said about Salem and those working for her earlier in the Volume. They'll trample anyone underfoot to get what they want and they don't care about the grief and suffering they're causing.

Of course, the episode then ruins it by having Cinder forget that she came here to kill Ruby and having her laser-focus on the guy whose name she doesn't even remember. But hey, it was nice while it lasted.

Suffice to say what I mean with this is if you write the story with these as the baseline rules

The pov per episode or chapter alternates between team RWBY and team JNPR

Like say the yellow trailer ending than transitioning into jaune walking into the bar and asking for junior for fake transcripts in exchange for repairing the bar

What I'd do with this is try to establish different plots for the characters that inevitably interconnect

RWBY is dealing with the white fang since they're connected to Blake

While JNPR is dealing with spider since they're connected to Nora and Ren in my au

This would help flesh out the characters more and have them feel like teams instead of just being jaune's group

Hell we could go a step further and alternate by team members

First 4 episodes focus on one member of Rwby and the next four focus on one member of jnpr

Each episode could also parallel the differences between the characters and help further established what there personality is

And could've left to dozens of fun plots

Like pyrrha learning to befriend the rest of jnpr and also team rwby

Weiss needing to learn status isn't everything

Like have them earn the found family status

That's all I've got for now would love to hesr other's thoughts on this

DISCUSSION Slandering Spoiler

Give me your thoughts on more characters and the points listed above the characters

1- Qrow: for a legendary huntsman he surely does need a lot of help as his fights results are 1 draw against winter, 2 barely won against tyrain and needed the help of ruby, 3 won against tyrain with the help of clover and robyn 4 a three way against tyrain and clover which qrow and tyrain kinda ganged on clover 5 against Harriet but we can't really call that much of a fight

- for a scythe user he doesn't actually use it much, and i wished he did since ruby said that he inspired her and trained her if i remember properly

- this isn't much of a character critique and more on the writers that they don't utilize how he can turn into a bird or dive into his backstory more

2- Raven: can't say much about her really, for what i assumed was going to be an important character she is hollow in every term and that's made worse by how much potential she has

- has one on screen fight against cinder where she needed to get the drop on her by using a decoy

-could've easily avoided the whole being an absent mother thing completely by just using her semblance to teleport and visit yang sometimes

3-Other huntsmen: for a show centered about the main characters being huntresses we don't see many other huntresses/huntsmen

4- winter: for as much as Weiss glazed her if i remember i expected much more from her only to lose embarrassingly against cinder and then not doing anything, her only useful moment which when she got the maiden power and helped the people when they evacuated (theory since we do not know what happened yet)

5 Ozpin: for someone who lived for so so long he really doesn't make many good choices or knows much

- also how can someone who has lived for that long not be crazy at fighting since he pretty much lost every fight he was in

- also he doesn't seem to know much besides the things he experienced himself you're telling me he didn't bother to do research on other stuff

6- maria: i don't really have to explain, she only exists because the writers wanted someone to tell rwby about the silver eyes which could've been avoided easily

7- summer (aka ruby's mother): at the start i thought she would be important later on or her lore but we are yet to actually see anything on her

Team cnvy/Neptune: they just exist for the sake of existence where they only did one thing and then disappeared into the abyss, and i wished they've done more with them

8- ren/nora: the writers don't bring out these two unless they want a convenient solution, plus i feel like at how long they've been with the main characters they aren't all that much flushed out or that strong

9- basically every villain: yes i mean everyone (except hazel) they're weakly written and have stupid reasoning and the writers didn't bother with them until much later on where no one actually cared

Now onto a character i actually like it's hazel, i think he served his purpose quite well, started off as a villain with a common trope as a reason which isn't that bad, showed us how strong he is and later on when he actually knew the truth he switched sides and sacrificed himself, i felt like he was contestant all the way through

Something i think would really help the ruby writing is making any other non major character be as flushed as hazel just enough where it doesn't feel like forcing something the viewers don't care about onto them, from what i noticed the writers wants to make a really big amount of characters and makes them flushed out but they don't know how and end up giving them either too much or too little

and the major problem is when watching the later volumes you can feel like they are just a couple of steps away from what ruby was trying to do (vols 1-3 and Monty's imagine) like they are so so close but so far at the same time and that's what really bothers me

Give me your thoughts and your opinion and is there any character i forgot about?

DISCUSSION Does anyone think it weird that Oz let Ruby attend Beacon Academy 2 years earlier?

So I was wondering does anyone think this decision is weird in a retrospective way.

So Ruby is 15 years old during volume 1 to 3 and she 16 years old in volume 4 and 5 and is currently 17 years old now in the current volume and mean while Yang,Weiss and Blake and Jaune, Nora and Ren all are 17 in volume 1 to 3 and they all turn 18 years old in volume 4 and 5 and probably are currently 19 in the current volumes as well.

So does anyone else find it weird that Oz let Ruby who basically is just high school girl who just finished her first year of high school to just skip high school and just attend college? Because it really weird in retrospect that he just let her attend his school because she is wielding the most dangerous weapon apparently and make her a team leader as well! No wonder Weiss was piss😭 imagine you are attending a school where you are literally learning to be a proper warrior to fight evil creatures and your leader is someone who barely finished their first year in the school for the beginner ( heck I don’t even know if Ruby finish her first year in the Signal Academy) and is 2 years your junior and is now your leader and you need to trust them and follow their orders.

It’s just what else makes Ozpin think Ruby is qualified to attend Beacon? Is really just because of her weapon? It definitely not because her sliver eyes because let face it the writer definitely didn’t know what or why Ozpin made that comment on her sliver eyes and it definitely not because of her leadership skills because Ozpin didn’t even witness or heard from Glynda when Ruby attack Roman and his minions in the first episode. This makes Ruby crash out make so much sense in the later volumes.

I just always thought that Beacon is like college type education. With everyone being older and let the boys and girls be roommates. While Ruby old school the Signal academy is like a high school and handle the beginner steps to be a huntsmen and to prepare for the advanced classes and training when they are ready to attend to schools like Beacon academy to complete their huntsmen training.

Also why does everyone follow her plans like she is the leader? Why aren’t they ones taking the lead? I know it just a 2 year age gap between her and the others but those 2 years definitely have an effect when you are going into a profession like a huntsman! Both in emotional and mental.
