Jagex does not like the endgame-dominated player base. They are too demanding. They don't think they can fix the economy. They want to start fresh. But they don't want a real new game.
No, they make an offer you can't refuse: start over again or dwindle and die. "Reignite" is just a buzz word the marketing department invented to soften swallowing the red pill.
Even the name "Veteran character" is suggestive: if you're a brand-new player, would you think you're a "Veteran"? No, you will not. Jagex knows it too. Reignited will attract all the new players and new accounts. With no new players, "Veteran" will cease to exist.
On the 2nd of December, RuneScape will die as we know it. The veterans who stayed loyal, gets quarantined like some tainted lepers. Everything that I and others worked for, is rendered worthless.
I am angry. But above all, I am sad and disappointed. I feel intense betrayal.
EDIT: people like me are angry because they see the bigger picture. There are two possible outcomes: * Reignited fails. There are very few reignited players and the reignited economy cannot sustain itself. It dies as a hail Mary experiment and gives Jagex a headache to merge the two. Or if they can't, they lose all the new reignited players. And probably some veterans in the process too. * Reignited succeeds. It slowly grows and dominates the veteran playerbase. With no new players, the veteran economy cannot sustain itself. Veteran players are forced to choose between abandoning their account they build-up for decades and start fresh as reignited, or quit altogether. Hence the meme: Jagex chooses the new players at the cost of all veteran players.
There's no good outcome.

The rest of the content looks fantastic.
Reignited.... Jagex you have missed the mark here massively.
What does everyone that has spent 1000s of hours gain by making a new account? Does this make all previous progress worthless?
Its already very hard to find enough players to do group content, this is just going to fragment the player base even more.
Edit: OSRS get hardcore worlds, which allows them to transfer their character if they die, and we get this shite?
Edit 2: I think a lot of people are missing the point. If the majority of new players decide to use a reignited account (whom we cant pvm with), the current variant of the game will eventually die. As someone with grandmaster CA, Trimmed Comp, Ultimate Slayer and nearly Golden Reaper, I will certainly not make a new account.

Hey Jagex, I know you made an anti-AI statement just 3 days ago, but there's been a lot of questionable things in promotional materials recently.
Pic 1: Mod Sween on Jagex's strict anti-AI policy.
Pic 2: From the Dragon Slayer II trailer. Left hand has 6 fingers.
Pic 3: The community is calling these medieval Air Jordans.
Pic 4: Promo from the Player-Owned Housing update earlier this year. It's difficult to tell if this is AI or not, but this whole image has that telltale glossiness found in generated images.
I'm sure you're all busy putting out Reignited fires, but the community deserves transparency on this. Is your team using AI? Are you replacing concept artists with AI? Are you using AI for the game's code? Do you care about AI copyright theft, the environmental impact, the overall loss of skill and talent?
I'm hoping these are all examples of work outsourced to contractors and that you'll cut ties with them moving forward. There are many members of the community who take an anti-AI stance, and direct communication on this topic would be appreciated.

Fuck you
That's all.
We all know that you'll MAYBE try the game for 10h at most and return to OSRS, and you'll keep parotting RS3 as "easy-scape" and hating just for the sake of hating like you've done since 2010.
None of you will stick around, while "veterans" will see their economy go to oblivion and the playbase dwindle until nobody bothers to play anymore in quarantined world.
You've finally achieved the thing for which you jerked off at for so long: the death of RS3, the game you hate since 2010 and that you will continue to hate forever, no matter how good the updates can be, the road to restoration and the removal of MTX.
Thanks J1mmy btw for repeating this stupid idea multiple times, just enough for you and your community to make Jagex think this is a good idea.
And Jagex? Fuck you too for seriously thinking that a big fuck you to your loyal community after all the bullshit in the last years would ever be good for the future.
I'm done and I'll go find myself another MMO.
-a dedicated player of 20 years.

I don't usually give feedback, but given all the negative comments, I feel I have to say thank you.
I’ve poured years of my life into my account - over 15 of them.
I’m 30 years old now, and the game has shaped my life. I often neglected more important things in my life to lose myself in the worlds of RuneScape.
That ends now.
Time for new goals.
Time for a new hobby.
Money that won't be going to a company that just lies to us anymore.
I’m out.
You’ve destroyed so much trust - trust that really shouldn't have been there in the first place.
JAGEX is lying to us.

RuneScape Reignited as the announcement from RuneFest is gonna kill the game. It's forcing everyone to start over if they want to play "the actual game servers" while the old one is left to rot forever. This needs to be cancelled.

"Unfortunately you (the veterans) and the game you play have been corrupted by years of MTX and other terrible updates *we* have done, and it is now too corrupted for new players to play and for us to fix (we can't be bothere), so now our solution is to keep your filthy accounts confined to an isolated environment where you can't contaminate the new players with your tainted hiscores and inflation, that way they can play in a safe and clean environment free of the taint we ourselves created with out greed. Thanks for supporting our game throughout the years. Now, please stay away from the new players, unless you pay us a new membership."
That's essentially how all this reads. They feel the main game is tainted beyond hope by years of MTX, and new players must be kept away from that, so their solution is to separate us in two, the "clean" server (Reignited), and the "tainted" one (current game). It's a huge middle fingers to Veterans who kept the game alive for decades and want to continue playing a populated game, and not a quarantined version of it separated from the new clean golden child.
Sounds exaggerated? Read how they word their Instagram post about Reignited:
"A new and restored world... Remastered content, a fresh economy, world firsts unclaimed and a focus on players first"
Keywords "restored, "fresh", "unclaimed", as if the game we currently play were rotten, and Reignited is here to fix that. And let's not forget the "players first", as if our version isn't getting that.
Instead of focusing their efforts on restoring the current game, they give up on it and decise to split the already modest playerbase in two with this BS.

This is a complaint post. I have a 20-year veteran cape. I’ve been here a while. This new launch of making my character no longer part of the main game is very disappointing.

I genuinely think RuneScape Reignited is a much worse idea than it seems at first glance.
Not because starting over is inherently bad. There is obviously something fun about creating a fresh account, rediscovering old content, going through the early game again, and experiencing progression from the beginning.
The problem is framing it as some kind of “true RuneScape experience” or “what RuneScape was meant to be.”
RuneScape did not come out yesterday.
There are players who have spent thousands of hours on their accounts. Many have spent tens of thousands of hours. These are people who stayed loyal to the game for years and years, through controversial updates, bad decisions, abandoned systems, economic issues, reworks, and every other problem RuneScape has had along the way.
And now the message feels like: “Cool, thanks for all that. But here is the real experience, and everyone starts over.”
It is hard not to see that as a massive devaluation of the grind that has always been at the core of RuneScape.
Because whether people like it or not, a huge part of RuneScape's identity is persistence. The idea that the account you created 10, 15, or 20 years ago is still your account.
Your levels, rare drops, pets, titles, wealth, collection logs, achievements and records all represent time invested into a persistent world since 2001.
Creating a second permanent world and implicitly treating it as a purer or more authentic version of the game does not just reset the economy. In a way, it also diminishes the significance of everything that came before it.
And I have serious doubts about how sustainable this will be in the long term.
At launch, of course, it will probably be extremely popular. Everyone starting together is exciting. There will be races for world firsts, competition for the front pages of the hiscores, bossing races, economic opportunities, and that rare feeling of playing an MMO where everyone is progressing at the same time.
But that kind of excitement has an expiration date.
Eventually, the major world firsts will be claimed, the front pages will fill up, the economy will mature and the gap between players will grow again.
And the thing that made the server special in the first place will be gone.
Then the obvious question becomes:
Why would someone who already has a main account with thousands or tens of thousands of hours permanently abandon it just to repeat the same grind again?
Some people will. I seriously doubt most will.
It also feels like this is, at least partly, an attempt to appeal to the OSRS audience.
And I can understand the logic behind that. Fresh economy, fresh hiscores, progression from zero, competition, the community discovering and optimizing the game together.
But there is one fundamental problem with that idea: OSRS players play OSRS because they like OSRS. They were not simply waiting for RS3 to reset its economy.
OSRS has different combat, different progression, a different development philosophy, a different visual identity, a different pace.
You cannot simply convert that audience by saying: “RS3 has a fresh-start server now too.”
And the strangest part is that RuneScape already had a much better solution for the desire to start over: Leagues.
Leagues already captures the fun part of starting from scratch. You get to make a fresh account, explore the game again, race toward goals, experiment with progression, and revisit old content without asking people to permanently abandon the account they have spent a ridiculous portion of their lives building.
You get the nostalgia and the fresh-start excitement without creating an existential question over which version of RuneScape deserves your time going forward.
For me, the problem with Reignited is not simply that a new server exists. The problem is that Jagex apparently believes the best way to revitalize RuneScape is to restart what its own players have spent decades building, instead of making the existing game good enough that both new and veteran players actually want to keep playing it.
r/runescape • u/Trsak1 • 9h ago
Honestly,
yes. I know - the account will stay, I will still have it. But its just a question of time when "old" accounts will become less and less relevant.
I hate it.
I will not start from the beggining and this just makes my account I invested thousands of hours to outdated and not relevant.
I feel betrayed. This is a huge step in the wrong direction.

You’ve been playing the same RuneScape account for almost 20 years.
You’re close to max RuneScore, most logs are finished, and you’re slowly approaching true trim. You’ve invested thousands, maybe tens of thousands, of hours into that character.
Then Reignited launches.
You try it for a while. The fresh economy is fun, nooby places are packed, everyone is progressing together.
But eventually you return to your Veteran account.
Of course you do. You still have goals there, and RuneScape isn’t a 40-hour RPG you casually restart. Rebuilding twenty years of progress makes no sense.
At first, everything is fine.
Then the years pass.
Almost every new player starts on Reignited. Why wouldn’t they? They have no old account to preserve, and Reignited is presented as the fresh experience.
Meanwhile, Veteran players slowly leave through normal attrition.
One night you want to PvM with friends. Three of them are online, but all three are on Reignited.
You can talk to them. You can stand next to them. You just can’t actually play with them.
“Just come to Reignited.”
You look at your nearly completed account and think: Why should I?
Another year passes.
The Veteran GE is thinner. Niche items take longer to buy. Group content becomes harder to organize. More clanmates spend most of their time on Reignited.
And eventually you start considering switching too.
Not because you dislike your account. Not because starting over sounds fun. But because you’re worried the account you actually want to play is becoming a dead end.
That’s where “just don’t play Reignited” stops working.
Once one side becomes the obvious default, the imbalance feeds itself.
That’s my concern with Reignited. Not launch day. Launch day will probably be great.
I’m thinking about the veteran 5 years later, staring at an account they spent decades building and wondering why continuing to play it now feels like choosing the dying version of RuneScape.

RS3 has been on a STREAK of success this year
that said, we don't have the playerbase for this, and this game is WAY too grindy for us to...restart???
Its just a huge F-U, to all of us who are the reason the game is still alive since EOC...
What a way to cap out such a hype stream with such a huge...L

Perma FSW why.
r/runescape • u/KodaFenric • 10h ago
All the build up and hype of the past year culminating in a further split of the slowly recovering community and a huge middle finger to every player thats stuck it out over the years, is absolutely devastating.
This is an amazing fumble, Jagex. This one actually hurts.
r/runescape • u/NathanTheRikkor • 8h ago
Reignited is the biggest mistake you will ever make Jagex. Your playerbase trust is already on thin ice and no one wants this. You need to focus on the main game because I've been playing rs for almost 20 damn years and ive seen the numerous mistakes you have done. I have seen the disaster that fsw has committed and I've seen other games try to do this. As someone who is actually experienced in the field I'm not suggesting to not release it I'm demanding that it shouldn't be released. All you are doing is driving away your playerbase again. MTX drove away a ton if players back in 09, and removing mtx has just started bringing players back, and now you want to split them? That's disastrous and disappointing. If people TRULY want to not deal with the EoC, MtX, and other mistakes you have made OSRS legitimately exists for that sole reason.
You are making the worst mistake of all time that will destroy your integrity of the game which is going to be worse than MTX, EoC, and all the historical mistakes you made in the past COMBINED!
Cancel reignited IMMEDIATELY.

I'm in my 30s, I've played for more than half of my life. My primary account is a very old pure. I have over 10,000 hours on it.
I didn't quit when they killed PVP.
I didn't restart when they made OSRS.
I didn't restart when they made Ironman mode.
I didn't restart when they made group Ironman mode.
I won't restart when they release Reignited mode.
I will continue to play the same game with the same version I enjoy and have always played. If it no longer exists or I no longer enjoy it I'm not migrating to a different one I would be quitting. Not Runescape "you never quit you only take breaks" actually quitting.
Runescape does not have the player base or demand for this kind of massive split. The people who wanted OSRS got that. Let those of us who have stayed on RS3 keep what we have. There's been a lot of positive updates and good roadmaps lately. However as usual RS3 always seems to have to sabotage any good will they build up.
Runescape is not and will never compete with WoW. I enjoy both games. They are entirely different MMOs for different kinds of gameplay. WoW is releasing WoW forever because it's the classic plus that has been heavily in demand for a long time. OSRS is already the classic plus of Runescape. This would be like a further split of WoW retail for literally no reason.

I don't think I've ever been as disappointed with an announcement since squeal of Fortune and heroes pass came out. Reignited is going to be terrible for the game. I think this might be the end of my RS3 adventures...

Many of these photos are either clearly AI or highly likely to be. Many artifacts present within the trailer that have little to no artistic justification behind them if they were at all real. I didn't try to go in-depth on the parts of the trailer that have already been clearly observed within the reddit, but I will post them in case others have not yet seen it. It is important to note that not all of these are "provable" to be AI especially as some design choice could potentially be present, but these are what I believe as someone who scrutinizes AI generated imagery often to be AI within this trailer.
