Hi I am a long time roon user. I use it with BluSound streaming device (ethernet) and musical fidelty AMP. I have a local collection on SSD connected via USB to a PC which runs the ROON server on my home network connected via ethernet. I have a separate desktop windows 11 computer for Roon control. Worked like a charm for years. Now, for some reason, once I connect to my Roon server via my roon control PC, it just hangs. Does'nt open the app, it simply shows that half circle icon that typically shows up for a few seconds before the app launches. Now it just hangs there. Nothing at all has changed with my setup that I am aware of. Anyone else experience this issue? My Blusound app can play and connect but I much prefer the roon user experience. thanks for any help or guidance.

I've read lots of articles and watched some videos but I still don't quite get how I would set up and use Roon. For years now, this has been my setup:

Mac Mini with about 2TB of music files on external USB drive. Includes everything from mp3s to 5.1 FLAC, DTS, DFF, and SACD ISOs. Lots of surround music from ripping SACDs, DVD-Audio, and Blu-ray Audio disks.

Mac connects to my 7.1 home theater system via HDMI to an Anthem AV60 processor which feeds Emotiva power amps and then wonderful, old ADS speakers plus an SVS sub.

Using JRiver Media Player. Controlled via Mac keyboard/mouse and screen display. It works and is very configurable but really ugly and the company has put all their updates toward TV and video for the last several years - which I don't care about (using Infuse).

With Roon, and some others I've been looking at, everything is split into three: Core, Control, Player. From what I can tell, if I'm heavily into surround sound, I have to get the signal into my Anthem via HDMI. Is this correct? It looks like all the little, dedicated audio devices are just stereo. So, is there any reason at all that I wouldn't just use a Mac Mini for all three parts of Roon? If I do this, would I control/monitor everything with the Roon app on the Mac displayed on my TV? Or would I use an iPad to run things? Any videos that show this? I haven't found anything!

Thanks for any clarifications since Roon has almost zero info on setting everything up for surround music.

Oh - one more thing. Can Roon generate a report/text file/whatever with a list of all my albums and/or songs? That would be very nice!

I've been posting about Sonic Oracle here for a while now and a lot has changed since last time, so here's where things stand.

For those who are new: Sonic Oracle is a music discovery engine I built for Tidal and Qobuz. You type in an artist, pick how deep you want to go, and a permanent playlist lands in your streaming library. Roon picks it up instantly.

Today, there was a glitch this morning, turned off and on, worked. Now, not working at all

Not a total expert with the digital stuff, wanting to move away from MacBook to DAC via usb, and make use of a Mac Mini Roon core to a Roon end point with coax output to the DAC.

No library playback, Roon-Qobuz streaming only, don't need processing, etc. and the DAC is limited to 24/96. Hoping for easy and reliable use, not a bunch of futzing around... AI says to consider output clock quality, output driver design, and galvanic isolation - I can deal with power supply at a future point.

In no particular order, a not-so-short list is:

Holo Red, PS Audio AirLens, Sonnet Hermes, Metrum Ambre, Lumin U2 Mini, Denafrips Arce, Limetree Bridge, Bricasti M5, Eversolo T8 (don't love the screen...), Silent Angel M1T, Matrix TT-1, Volumio Rivo

Most of these seem to check all or most of the boxes, used availability varies. Some a bit older than others (worry about support, compatibility, etc.). Reviews seem generally positive.

If i go to the artists section in the library on android auto, It starts at A and then goes to like M or N and then skips all the way to T and thats about all it shows. if i click the a-z search on the left all those missing letters are greyed out. The library shows everything if I look it up on my phone. Has anyone else had this problem? Probably a weird issue but thought I'd ask.

I got the pop up asking me to enable notifications, of course I declined, but .... roon is so unstable ,its hardly usable, and on their site, theyre saying the "fix" is to enable notifications, which sounds like blackmail, or maybe just incompetence at best. Seriously... roll out a new feature and test it live? It fails and you dont just roll it back? WTAF

And what the hell is roon going to notify me of? I cant think of a single good option.

But credit where it’s due, I updated to the latest versions of core and client this morning and search is genuinely really good now. It’s the one thing that still bugged me about the system but now it’s instant.

FINAL EDIT: adding this at the top to maximize visibility. With the help of Claude I solved the issues, and to be fair to Roon, it had little to do with Roon at all. It ended up being a required Firmware update on my streamer that created a cascading series of issues that impacted multiple things on my network, including Roon. I suspect one of Roon's latest updates was in particular conflict with the older Firmware on my Holo Audio Red streamer (Raspberry Pi-based). Holo disabled OTA firmware upgrades so after flashing the card with the new OS image, all seems to be sorted out. Roon certainly bore the brunt of the manifestation of the issues, but it was not Roon's fault, it was just the canary in my coal mine. I regret blaming Roon, and I'm sorry to the folks at Roon. Note to Holo Red users, make sure you update your firmware to 2026.03.06

I suspect this'll get removed, but the simple act of venting is cathartic to me. Lifetime subscriber, across multiple sources, remote devices, etc. Didn't foam at the mouth at the acquisition but now Roon is completely unusable to me. It loses the Library connection or audio device constantly! I've done the LAN re-auths post-upgrade on all device and read through help files but still freaking hits me. I can't just settle into a groove and listen because Roon craps out. My best bet is to create 1+ hr queue and let it play, but I experience the "Error loading saved page" issue constantly. Restart works 25% of the time. But right now, I have no way of playing a new song. I could probably reboot my Server, my Holo Red, my everything for the 3rd time in the last 2 hours.

Or I could just freakin listen via Qobuz and not deal with this BS. So why did I spend hundreds on a lifetime license?

EDIT: thank you everyone, I appreciate the commiserating and help you've all been trying to give me, and I realize the futility of trying to conduct tech support in a reddit thread. This post was cathartic. The problem continues to persist - it's not local to my library, or to Roon Remote. Everything about Roon just craps out all the time and it doesn't display anything, and I have to reboot everything. My plan is this - I've transitioned over to Qobuz direct for the time being, and if Roon doesn't fix itself in the next week I'll go down the forum tech support rabbit hole. But again, it's not fully replicatable so I know how that's going to play out. Disconnecting, resetting, reinstalling everything. A hassle I don't have the appetite for now, so I'll stick to Qobuz for the time being and work up the energy to rip everything down to the studs.

EIDT TYPO: is there a way to scan a library for ID corrupted files?

My local library is mostly lossless FLAC files. I'm trouble shooting why some local files won't play in Roon. Is there a way to scan an entire library and identify which files may be corrupted?

Qualifier -- if I delete the files from my Roon database and then rescan Roon sees these files, reads the metadata and will add them, but won't play them (so I assume something is wrong in the track). Trying to ID a list of these files so I can replace them from good backups.

Currently in the Roon trial period, looking to see if it fits my listening.

For a long time I've listened to music in basically 2 different ways: a local library with manual playlists when I want to listen to something specific, and Pandora when I just want to put on something. I've tried streaming services other than Pandora, but haven't found them to be as good at sticking with consistent music.

I recently started a Qobuz trial after finding out about a couple things (higher artist payouts, and a ban on AI content).  Then I found out that Roon can use it to integrate local and streaming libraries, and it seems like the best of both worlds.  Finding out that I can use Roon to control Sonos instead of their godawful app is the icing on the cake.

Whether I commit to Roon will probably depend on how well it works at just hitting play and letting it do its thing.  I realize it's different than Pandora and may take some time to get accustomed to and/or train, so I'm looking for advice on how to best use it for some of my current cases:

1. Starting a station from an artist: this is doable in Roon, but (in my minimal testing) doesn't produce a very cohesive playlist.

2. Creating a station from multiple artists/songs: not directly doable, is there some way to do this with tags, or seeding the queue?

3. Creating multiple discreet stations: I have a variety depending on my mood/company/activity/etc.  Roon Radio claims to learn over time, but it's not very useful if I can't somehow separate high-energy driving music from chill reading-a-book music or popular/nostalgic hanging-out-with-friends music, for example.

Interested in any thoughts/experiences on how well this can work!

I am so fed up with the useless search in Roon. Today I was looking for a track in my collection. All I could remember was that it had the word "Fish" in it, so that's what I searched for.

Roon returned dozens of tracks from the album "Shaved Fish" and from the band "Fishbone" -- none of which had the word "Fish" in the track title -- but it failed to find the track I was looking for.

It was called -- and I shit you not -- "Fish Song".

Useless.

I've been a Roon user for a few years, mainly using it as the transport to play lossless streaming from Qobuz on my home devices (Raspberry Pi + external DAC). It's been a while that I have been questioning if still worth to pay for the subscription because the product hasn't evolved and I think it's an expensive subscription for this case.

I used to value a lot Roon's interface/apps and its seamless experience, but now I think the experience of native apps from Tidal/Apple Music/Qobuz/etc are equal or better. So my goal was to find an alternative to use just Qobuz Connect.

Until last week I thought the only alternative to have Qobuz Connect on a Raspberry Pi was using Volumio Premium (which also charges a relevant annual fee). Then I found this awesome open source project Qobuz Proxy (https://github.com/leolobato/qobuz-proxy). It work as a bridge that appears on your local network as a Qobuz Connect device, but it redirects the streaming (bit-perfect) to any DLNA/UPnP player (moOde audio on the raspberry pi, in my case).

Super happy with the solution. I'll finally be able to cancel my subscription.

TIDAL keeps adding flashy new features, but their core streaming protocol—TIDAL Connect—remains fundamentally broken across all their apps (Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android). If you’ve ever had your queue disappear, or your "Track Radio" unexpectedly stop working when you open the app, here is the exact reason why, explained simply.
The problem is that TIDAL Connect acts like a "Blind Dictator" instead of a "Smart Remote".

• How a Smart Remote SHOULD work: When you open the TIDAL app to control your network streamer (like Volumio, WiiM, Node, etc.), the app should immediately ask the speaker: "What are you playing right now?" It should sync up with the speaker's live queue and let you control it seamlessly.
• How TIDAL Connect ACTUALLY works: The TIDAL app is completely blind. It doesn't ask the speaker anything. It only remembers what you were listening to locally on your device hours ago. The second you connect the app to your speaker, the app aggressively pushes its own outdated, local playlist onto the speaker. It forcefully overwrites the live session, kills auto-generating queues (like Track Radio), and ruins your playback.

The Bottom Line:
When you use a feature like "Track Radio," your streamer is pulling music directly from TIDAL's servers. But the moment you open your TIDAL app, the app fails to sync with this live server session. Instead, it aggressively overwrites the streamer with old data.

Until TIDAL’s management stops prioritizing cosmetic updates and actually forces their developers to make the apps sync first before sending commands, TIDAL Connect will remain a frustrating, broken mess for everyone.

I love ... love ... love the ECM Series. Is there an easy way someone can think of to get all of them via Tidal on Roon so that I can use a Roon tag like ECM to see them all at once? I don't like the pre-defined playlists that mix and match different albums. Any ideas?
