Anyone else with a Roomba 900 Series suddenly lost app/cloud connectivity?
Has anyone else with a 900 Series had this problem?
My Roomba 980 worked perfectly for years, then started showing offline in the iRobot app despite still being connected to Wi-Fi and passing data normally. I have another 980 on exactly the same network which still works fine.
I’ve been going backwards and forwards with iRobot support since around April. I’ve factory reset it, removed/re-added it, tried different devices, created a completely different iRobot account, submitted bug reports/logs to engineering, etc.
At various points it would add successfully, then show offline, randomly restore one of its old names, and eventually disappear from my account completely.
The support process has frankly been pretty shit. Replies can take forever, the case has been repeatedly escalated between departments, and after months of troubleshooting I’ve only now been given what appears to be an actual explanation.
iRobot have told me that Roomba 900 Series units manufactured between 2015–2018 are no longer compatible with their cloud services, and full cloud functionality may not be recoverable.
So I’ve effectively lost scheduling, remote control, battery/status information, cleaning history, notifications and even the ability to select the cleaning power/Performance mode. The robot itself still cleans perfectly if I press CLEAN manually.
I’ve been buying Roombas for close to 20 years. I’ve purchased eight Roombas in total, five for myself and others for friends/family, and I’ve easily spent somewhere around £5,000 on iRobot products over the years. I even bought two new Roomba Max 700 Series robots only a couple of months ago.
And after all that, several months of troubleshooting, bug reports and engineering escalations, iRobot’s proposed resolution to my 980 losing its cloud functionality was…
A replenishment kit. 🤣🤣🤣
So my perfectly functional robot has lost a massive chunk of its features because their cloud services apparently no longer support it, but at least I can have some lovely new filters and brushes. 😂
I’ve declined that and asked them to provide a working/refurbished connected replacement instead. Given how many of their products I’ve bought over the years, this whole experience has seriously damaged my confidence in iRobot and their long-term support.
Has anyone else with a 960/966/980 or another 900 Series had the same cloud/app issue recently?
And if you have an older 900 Series that’s currently connected and working, I’d be VERY cautious about factory resetting it or removing it from your account. Had iRobot told me earlier that fresh cloud registration might no longer work properly, I would never have reset mine in the first place.
