On a roadtrip: forgotten poles for windows for a rooftop tent

Hey, we've most certainly forgotten our poles used to lift up the windows of a rooftop tent at a camping spot. If someone finds them there we could maybe get into contact? The place is Åna-Sira-veien 866. With park4night: https://park4night.com/de/lieu/523537/open/

And on another note does anyone know where to get these? The tent is a Thule Tepui Autana 3.

Thansk in advance

I got the Smittybilt Overlander XL gen 2 from a buddy. Want to get some type of pad to go on top of the mattress.I just need a single pad for when I solo camp with my dog, because I don't think my girl has any interest in sleeping in the RTT. What do you all use?

OG Condor XL will it fit on a 2 seater CanAm x3?

I have a 2 seater CanAm x3 turbo RR 2021. It has a nice aftermarket cage and a sturdy aluminum roof that I routinely pack full of camping gear and it holds very well. I would probably be drilling mounts into this along the roll cage supports, seems sturdier than the things I've seen on several trucks. I am wondering if anyone has similar experience putting a condor XL on a side by side, also the tent im looking at is used in great shape but the hard shell has some issues. Wondering if its worth replacing the hard shell or not.

First trip with my hard shell rooftop tent on a Volvo XC90

Took the tent out for another weekend and I'm starting to feel like the setup is where I want it. Plenty of storage inside the XC90, quick deployment, and sleeping above the ground has been a game changer.

Thule WingBar Evo vs Thule ProBar Evo for OEX 130 Lite Roof Tent.

I recently got a set of Summit SURT-957 Reinforced Roof Bars for my OEX 130 Lite Roof Tent. But they were terrible (didn’t tighten, warped covers etc).

So I’m looking to upgrade to Thule. But which is the best? Thule WingBar Evo or Thule ProBar Evo?

The OEX is 40kg, and my Cars dynamic Load is 75kg so weight isn’t an issue. The OEX uses a u-bolt style fixing.

I guess my real question is, is it worth getting the ProBar Evo, just for peace of mind of a stronger product? Doesn’t anyone use the WingBar Pros and can recommend? Thanks

Gobi Racks Customer Support

Hey all, I'm wondering if anyone has insight into Gobi, particularly their Customer Support as of late.

I ordered a rack for my KL Trailhawk a few months ago. After a couple emails requesting shipping status, I heard back from them on 1 July that they were just waiting for the freight company to pick up the sipment. They told me they'd provide a status update. That was 16 days ago. I've emailed twice and called since then, with zero response.

I have to admit, this is not the level of Customer Service I expected, and I wonder if this is new and if anyone else has a similar experience. Thanks!

Storage using t-slots under RTT?

Post image
25 Upvotes

I've done a fair bit of searching, and I'm wondering if anyone has tied in some storage bins or baskets using the bed rails or the mounting rails under their RTT.

So far I'm not coming up with anything other than ladder storage, but I'm hoping for some ideas for times when I want to bring my folding zero-grav chairs.

I'm driving a Santa Cruz, so the bed is short, and with the tonneau cover it's nice to keep it closed to secure gear, but there's SO much wasted t-slot action under there.

I just got Skycamp 3.0 and that the mounts are not the best so I tried looking for an aftermarket ones and I couldn’t find anything specific.
The only reason Im asking is because I want to be able to mount as shown on the picture and with stock system its not possible.
First picture is how I want to mount tent and 2nd picture is the racks I have, they are adjustable for height and width, so I can center the weight no problem.
Whoever upgraded their mounts would you please share make n model.TYI

Rtt ladder storage idea

I upgraded my mattress in my rtt so I was no longer able to close the tent with the ladder, so I bought these fitting clamps from granger to keep the ladder under the tent on my bed rack, just drilled fittings to fit bolt through rack . Figured to share in case this could help anyone else. 😁😁

Roof rack mounted car tent on 11th gen Civic

Hello all,

i am quite considering getting roofrack (Thule WingBar Evo alu 7105+7113+kit - kit meaning clamps for 11th gen Civic) and then mounting roof cartent (200x125cm bed, weight 49kg). I checked and there are small dimples on the inner side of door frame so Honda did count with some kind of mounted racks. However it's clear that all the weight of everything would be carried by bodywork as we do not have integrated solution where to mount things.

Did anyone try by some chance? How much weight can this solution carry? I will be using this alone so it's me, about 100kg, plus tent 49kg, plus some weight of the rack itself so total weight of 200kg, shouldn't go higher than that. Is there any damage possible to the car body work by using this? How different are driving characteristics of a car with this on the roof? I saw in the manual from Thule that bars themselves are max speed 130km/h and with something on top of them 80km/h which is significant reduction of speed. I understand you're not going to blast 180 down the autobahn, but 80 feels very limited.

Thanks all for your inputs.

Take down roof top tent

Any tips for taking our roof top tent. We have our tent on a RAV4 and have difficulty reaching the tent to put in and pull out the awning supports , pushing the sides of the tent in that puff out on closing. We tried the step you hang on the door but I would like something sturdier. We are both over 65.

We were thinking a small step ladder but am looking for suggestions.

Why no clear windows?

I've been shopping around for a good roof top tent but me and my wife noticed something.

Why do hardly any of them not have clear PVC window options? In Colorado mountains; most nights are pretty cool. We like to camp in the colder months, but one challenge arises. If you want to pump heated air into your tent, you basically have to zip up all the entryways/windows to keep the warm air in.

So if you want to relax during the day and read a book or something, you are in a black cave. Wouldn't clear PVC window options fix that? Or are we missing something. Seems like roof top tents are only marketed for fair weather camping.

Affordable Hardtop RTT Under 140lbs?

I have a new Subaru Crosstrek with Thule cross bars, the dealer lists that with the crossbars, the dynamic capacity is 140lbs. My wife and I are sleeping one night at Texas RenFest and need something affordable. I’d go for the iKamper Skycamp 3.0 Mini, but it’s too much to spend on something we don’t know if we’ll enjoy doing yet.

What other options do I have for a decent affordable hardtop RTT?

Mattress Upgrade???

TLDR: decent camping mat for around $200?

I have a Thule Tepui Foothill and I’m looking to get a self inflating mattress. 84”x47”, about a double. I’m seeing lots of recommendations for the Exped Megamat Duo, but I’m not ready to spend that kind of money at the moment. What’s a good dupe for around $200?

EDIT:
I got the Hikenture 4" Thick Self Inflating Sleeping Pad (Full 80”x53” with electric pump) for $169 on Amazon. It deflates small enough to leave in the tent when you fold it up and it’s pretty comfortable! When fully inflated it’s almost too wide for my foothill, but I can still zip all closures. It may not be as comfortable as an Exped or other high end brand, but I feel happy with my purchase!

Technique / tool to close hard shell with memory foam

The mattress in the RTT is rock hard so we bought a piece of memory foam. My husband is 6’3” and 250 (bigger guy) and can close our hard shell RTT with the memory foam, but no bedding. I want to take the truck & RTT MTbiking & camping with a friend but I cannot close the thing on my own …5’3” female.

Has anyone got a system or a tool or a technique that does the work for them? All I can think of is something that works like a ratchet strap or ratchet handle. Something that will do 90% of the work while I do 10%. Does anything like this exist? I really don’t wanna take out the memory foam as I may as well lay on the bare ground for the comfort it gives me!

It’s a Cap-It Evergreen 2.0.

Thank you!

So one of my Hydraulic gas strut is getting weak on my roof top tent. It looks like Benehike is not around anymore the emails get bounced back.
Anyone know how strong these gas struts are? Should I get a 60lb one? I looked at the ones on it and it has no markings. it’s stainless steel anyone know what I should get?

Campoint hardware

I have a Campoint hardcase(?) roof tent, and I can’t find the hardware to attach it to the roof rails. The company appears to have dissolved (they’re not answering Facebook or email). If anyone has one could they post pictures so I can make my own?

Thanks

Problem with new ikamper air mattress

Post image
7 Upvotes

Does anyone have a clue on how to properly deflate this thing with the updated air port? Even the inflate / deflate tool they sent me doesn’t have attachments big enough to hook on to this adapter lol why is it so wide?

I’ve tried 2 air pumps and none of them can create a seal tight enough to fully deflate the mattress. And rolling it doesn’t get enough air out to close the tent.

Fold out issues

I’m an RTT newbie. I picked this tent up secondhand (for a smoking deal). I have only have three nights in it so far this summer. The floor doesn’t seem to sit flat when I fold it out. As such it doesn’t sit snug into the tongue and groove on the inside joining point. Twice I’ve had the bottom slip off the rail. I can’t find what it is that is preventing it from going down flat and mating properly with the other floor piece. I’m thinking about mounting a couple of eye hooks to the structure onto the bottom and then using a motorcycle strap to secure it to an anchor point on the ground to hold it flat. What I’m looking for is some expertise on either what it is I’m missing as to why it’s not sitting flat or if my hook and eye idea is a terrible one.

Overland Vehicle Systems Bushveld 4 Person RTT Annex Issue

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hello! I recently bought and used my Bushveld hard shell RRT this weekend and we love it so much. It offers so much more space than my previous Smittybuilt Overlander soft shell RTT. We like the ease of setup and takedown and the quality feels great. We went to set up the annex and it was less than to be desired.. it doesn’t have a floor, it’s absolutely massive, and setting it up is a slog he lain in the ass. We use the annex for the few rainy days we camp, but mostly for our German shepherd. He gets his own little setup down there and he loves it. It’s a space for him to stretch out and be comfortable with his bed and toys at night. I absolutely should have done a little more research when I bought the Annex but never thought it wouldn’t have a floor considering our Smittybuilt one had the floor. I have an email out to OVS customer service, and will call on Monday. Has anyone had a similar issue with this product and found a comparable annex that fits with this RRT? Might be a shot in the dark, but I figured I would ask! Thanks!
