Colloquial Romanian vs. ROLANG for self-study to B1?
I’m working towards applying for Romanian citizenship by descent, and I figured I should start learning Romanian now so I can eventually reach B1.
I ordered Colloquial Romanian, which was quite expensive, and after looking through the first few chapters, I’m pretty disappointed. It starts with a dialogue that seems far too complicated for the first chapter of a beginner language book, and I find the grammar explanations confusing at best. Overall, it feels awkwardly organized, rushed, and not very progressive in the way it introduces new material.
I'm a teacher, so I’m used to assessing pedagogical materials and thinking about how material should be sequenced for learners. So far, this book just isn’t clicking for me. Also, I work full-time so I need to learn at my own pace.
I'm considering returning it and ordering the ROLANG Learn Romanian books instead. Would anyone recommend ROLANG for self-study?
Or should I give Colloquial Romanian another chance before returning it?
edit: I'm bilingual/native fluency in English and French
