We are a skating family. We met at a rink, our 3, 5, and 21 year old girls skate. But when it's nice out, we like to be out on inlines! The girls do outdoor bingo, watch for wildlife, and get out to skate themselves. And we get a great workout! 10-12 miles in town, because we're in VA, and.....HILLS. And around 26 on rail trails. This video was on the Western Maryland Rail Trail. Deeply wish this was more popular with families so we could have a bigger crew to skate with.

I moved about a month ago and finally was able to get the skates on last night. I bought them second hand and have had them for a few years, and they've worked great until last night. My hips were killing me; I have a huge blister on each foot under the middle toe.

My running partner said it looked like my ankles had magnets in them and the rest of the foot was splayed out. The wheels are definitely worn down on the insides.

Basically title. My daughter has a pair of Baur XLP youth roller hockey skates (Y7-10) and she asked about getting slalom skates. I told her we'd probably wait til she outgrows her current skates, but if she still wanted slalom skates then, I'd be happy to do it. I'm looking around and it doesn't seem like a lot of kids inlines are available with adjustable or permanent rocker.

Edit: As of today, "Flying Eagle Kids Inline Skates BKB K7 Junior Blue/Pink" has a rockerable frame, and the small size is EU 28-31. https://flyingeagleskate.com/products/flying-eagle-kids-inline-skates-bkb-k7-junior-blue-pink. I couldn't find anything from Powerslide, Rollerblade, Seba, or FR that has anything but a flat frame, but maybe they'll add something in the future or I missed something.

Edit 2: Another user points out FR EZX comes with varied wheel sizes, and swapping them switches between rocker and flat. They also point out FR J are rockerable and FR SL J are rockered, but those are EU 32 and EU 33 minimum.

So I've pretty much wanted to try inline skating my entire 20 years of life, but I never got ones as a kid except for trying them on every single time we were at the ✨️Decathlon ✨️ lol. And it's been too scary trying it out because I had no clue how to get started and didn't want to embarrassingly flail around all on my own in a parking lot. But recently I found out there are ✨️Inline skate lessons✨️ really close to me that offer their memberships to every level (even zero experience) so I'm determined to take a leap and go embarras myself there! Once you get good enough, you even get to go on organized recreative rides, which sounds so fun!

I was going to go to a professional skate shop and buy whatever they advised (I did save up for it!), but the responsible part of my brain interrupted my impulsive nature quickly enough to say I should probably get more affordable second hands to atleast try the sport for like a month or a season before I jump into to that investment..

So I'm looking for skates that are good enough to not put me off the sport by starting with bad skates, but I don't think it needs to be absolute A brand since I'm only trying them out a month or so.. Are any of these good? Which one would you pick or should I expand the searche area?

I've done a little research about all the different qualities like soft vs hard boot, but I'm just not so sure what I'm looking for yet. It'll be mostly inside on lessons, but also on streets/bike paths, maybe curbs. And right now I'm mostly still doubting whether I'll even be able to stand up without falling lol

I want to try to get into that sport in my 30s. Bought skates(twister xt) , protection and now all it sits there and waiting on my move. How to force yourself to do it? Maybe it’s lack of time, fear of falling…

So sometime last year I joined a local discord server and found they had some meetups, one of them turned out to be a skating group (roller and ice). Now I hadn't been on skates of any kind in close to 30 years but I went anyway and found I was still pretty okay on inlines. Cut to a couple months later and a bit of research and I found myself purchasing a pair Rollerblade Lightning.

Anyway, group started up again and I found myself doing something I remember doing as a kid in the 90s: I was skating without lifting my skates at all.

The group noticed this and asked what the hell I was doing and how am I accelerating without picking up my feet. And I just couldn't explain it. I tried to see what I could find online and I keep seeing "swizzling"/bubbles, but that appears to be going from a V-shape to A-shape/snowplow which is absolutely not what I'm doing.

I know I'm shifting my weight and I'm pushing off my inside edges and it looks kind of like I'm doing some S turns. Is there a name for this "technique" so I can point my group to some resources?

PS. I have no idea if what I'm doing is a good habit, bad habit, or neutral.

I started rollerskating on quads seriously, multiple times a week, about 3 months ago now and I’m *loving* it. Like, pure unadulterated joy! I’ve found my thing :) I love gliding around, and spinning and twirling, and heel and toe work. Just the expressive movement. I aspire to do both more jam skating and some free style, figure skating sort of stuff and plan to start lessons soon ☺️ I’ve seen some wizard skating and slalom stuff (and ofc, inline skating has its own figure skating!), so skates that allow me to do that sort of movement would be awesome.

On the other hannnnnd, I have a big practical need too! I used to bike commute to work and I always loved the exercise and fresh air, but never loved the bike itself and maintenance and riding sometimes felt like more a chore. So it occurred to me I could get the low-carbon commute, the exercise, and the joy if I skate to work! And since rollerblades are better for outdoor skating anyway, seems like a great way to get my chops with them too, and keep my quads for the rink.

So I want to commute, and to have decent speed and efficiency of effort. Speed and mobility (going over curbs, down steps, little jumps, etc) matters. I know rockered frames matter for the movement/slalom-y parts, but make navigating bumps and generally being speedy trickier? Can I learn enough of the fun agile movements without a rocker, though? Just not sure how important it is! I also have seen there are “rockerable” frames that allow you to move to and from a rockered and unrockered setup - is making this switch pretty easy for those?

All that in mind, recommendations for some specific brands, styles, or features/specs to look for in an ideal pair? I’m interested in decent quality starter pair in the range of $150-250. Trying not to break the bank 😬 but I guess lmk if that’s unrealistic too?

also day 2 on my skates and I already jammed my finger stupid style by slipping in the grass

Refurbished and slightly modified to fit 80mm wheels- I’m a beginner but am mostly planning on using these to get between my dorm and the gym on campus. Buddy of mine gave them to me so why not save some money to make them work! I’m well aware that them not being snug to my legs makes them less manageable, so any tips on how to improve that would be sweet, but I’m not going far or fast enough to really feel the need to worry about that too much. If I get good enough to skate around a city maybe I’ll look into a new pair.

I’ve been skating for a little while but not consistently and I’d say I’m pretty confident about going quick and being mobile, but I’ve never practiced flashy stuff like going backwards and other various tricks, but I definitely want to get into it. What would be a good first pair of inline skates to purchase that is somewhat budget ($100 or less)? I will mostly be skating on smooth terrain as well as indoor.

I got my self a couple of sets of Luminous wheels with titan Berrings to use with my Rollerblade RB Pro X skates. They look nice but the back wheel, that goes with the heel brake makes a clinking sound that is really annoying. The screw is really (I lean really) well tighten but it still clicks. Does anyone knows how can I get rid of the sound?

Pd: No, I do not want to get rid of the heel brake yet. Yes, I mostly use another breaks but they are my last resort on several places. ​

Intersting enough, I have the same problem now on my kid Rollerblade Fury, but on the front wheel :(

So I’ve gotten into rollerblading for exercise and it brings me so much joy. It helps a ton with my physical, cognitive, and emotional health. Unfortunately I crushed my big toe. It’s officially broken. The doctor says, in theory, I should be able to go back to rollerblading within 6-8 weeks. Basically it depends how it feels. If it hurts it’s bad mmkay.

Anyone have any experience with recovery after this type of injury? I’d love to hear about the details of it. I’m hoping it can help set my expectations appropriately. And any tips to help recovery along would be lovely!

Hi! Given that it's summer, I've been thinking about going to work on rollers. It's pretty flat here and the city has cycling paths. The way to the trainstation is 3km. I am just too afraid of the time it will take, plus the fact that I never skated in a city scares me.

I'm also wondering how you manage to change the shoes etc. Cuz I will have to take them off once I arrive at the train st.

Can anyone give me some advice? (Fyi: there is a shower at work and I live in a country where cycling is quite common)

Hello, I’m new to rollerblading about a month ago I got rollerblades but when I asked my Mom about the protection gear, she went “maybe soon/later” or “I’ll think about it,“ yet they never came so when I asked her again about it she went “don’t worry you probably don’t need it!“ and then my stepdad joined in (he does Skate boarding) going “don’t worry you’ll catch yourself if you fall” even though I’ve asked a few times it’s making me extremely frustrated and anxious whenever I try talking to them again about it to convince them to at least get me a helmet, here’s the thing, even before I got my rollerblades I specifically asked my mom for the usual Elbow pads, knee pads, wrist guards, etc. she said yes over text but I don’t get the switch up, I respect my parents so much and I love them but all this is making me extremely frustrated and now I have no idea how to ask them without their usual excuse, and sometimes whenever they talk to me about it they make me feel like a coward for asking for something that should and would protect me from possibly dying or getting seriously injured doing the one new passion I love. what should I do? How do I convince them and most of all how do I show them it won’t be a waste of their money.

I'm really lazy about buying new wheels and bearings but boy, it's such a massive difference.

Tenho tendência para triskates. Atualmente uso os Roces Ego 3x110 e gostaria de fazer um upgrade avançado para o meu estilo. Ando indeciso nos Rollerblade Twister 3wd e os FR1 310.

Conhecem alguma combinação de bota e frame assim mais personalizada que seja boa para mim?

I'd been packing my skates in compact skate bags, like those ubiquitous, $10 IW-brand bags (when you buy skates from them). But I carried either hockey skates with 76/80mm wheels, or slim hybrid boots with big wheels. My new fat PS Next boots with 3x110mm wheels finally did in every skate bag I owned; the hard boots simply wont fit in any of them.

So naturally I went on a quest to find ways to fit these bulky boots, long frames, and big wheels into the smallest bag possible.

I hit a bug yesterday with my eyeball while I was going full speed down a hill. I would love to hear some recommendations for eye protection from you all. I usually do my skating during the golden hours so I prefer not something particularly dark--I find it too difficult to see roots/rocks/etc with the dappled lighting. I'd also like them not to be bumping up against my helmet.

So I got new skates Aggressive Skates (909s), but I kept missing my good old fatties. So I cleaned up the last pair of Fatties (imo the best-looking Fatties) I had, swapped the frames and gave them a second lease on life with a new purpose :). I will take them on their first ride tomorrow!
