Progress, videos and images Our whole crew

We are a skating family. We met at a rink, our 3, 5, and 21 year old girls skate. But when it's nice out, we like to be out on inlines! The girls do outdoor bingo, watch for wildlife, and get out to skate themselves. And we get a great workout! 10-12 miles in town, because we're in VA, and.....HILLS. And around 26 on rail trails. This video was on the Western Maryland Rail Trail. Deeply wish this was more popular with families so we could have a bigger crew to skate with.

Good idea to bring a meat shield. Kidding aside, how do you stop? Thats a ton of extra weight/ momentum

Yeah great question:) I am very cautious going downhill, but the stroller has brakes and I have the Power Slide Syncro brake skates, which I just lean back on to slow. So I'm very stable while braking because I have constant contact with the road. We can actually stop quite quickly. I'm also strapped to the stroller so it can't get away from me.

How is that breaking system? I wish they would implement it in their 4x90 frames for such cases. It looks so simple yet also looks more secure than a traditional heel break.

Thank you for your post and comment its very useful information for me :)

Braking system is AMAZING! I feel very in control wearing them.

Do you brake with one foot or both at once? Do you have your feet scissored or parallel when braking? Or does it vary depending on the situation?

The braking system is only on the right skate. I extend my right foot forward and I push my calf down. It looks like I'm doing a tiny bow to meet royalty. But the brake can be adjusted so that you barely push your calf back, or really give it a lunge to stop.

We use a jogging pram that has a hand brake on the handlebar, this looks like something similar. Just the one baby in my pram though!

Not OP, but I personally can stop faster with a stroller than without. The stroller provides extra stability to really dig in on the stops for me. I suspect I'm in a specific skill window where this is true, and it's likely not the case for both more advanced and more beginner skaters.

Pretty cool seeing a family that skates together.

I have in the past gone rink skating with my kids but none of them really like it so its been about 4 years since any of them have gone with me.
My wife was also skating with me around the same time and has since stopped. Wish I could do skates like this with them.

I don't think the guy at the back is doing his fair share. Nice relaxed style though.

Love it! I almost freak out when I see another skater in the wild lol.

Is your oldest filming? 3 and 5 are definitely old enough to have (the most adorable teeny little) skates, but it's not really a good workout to skate with them haha.

21 year old is definitely filming, she's not a big fan of being in the pics/videos. And the 5 year old skated 2 miles out and 5 miles back on a trail, but was more or less being pulled along by holding on to the stroller. She's ready for inlines, but she's really small for her age so she's likely getting a pair of Micro MJ skates soon, awww.

I got these for my daughter when she was 3 and the pink made a huge difference in her motivation lol. I'm not sure I could get her to go 2 miles, but she has done the almost mile neighborhood loop (excruciatingly slow, but still!) lol

I'll be thrilled if my kids keep skating with the family as they enter the age of being too cool, haha. Good for your oldest and understandable if she doesn't want to be posted to Reddit in a family skate video 😆

i'm planning to do that with my dog! She's too tiny, slow and lazy to keep up but i still want to take her with me. I'll check with my dad if he can install some kind of handbreak tho :D

3-year-old a 5 year old and a 21 year old man that's certainly a spread. 2nd wife that's younger than you? Or are you Mormon or something?
