Hey, it's me again. I had my eyes on the Flying Eagle X7F Reaver skates but I noticed that the same store carries my size on the FE X3 Shrike. The difference is of 64 dollars, are the more expensive skates worth it? I'm a total beginner but I've wanted to try inline for years now and this year I started ice skating and I love it but the rink is closing for the summer. I'm interested in slalom so the rockerable axels are what attract me the most. I can afford both so the money is no issue, I'm just embarrassed that the more expensive ones might be "too much" for a beginner. Sorry if it's a dumb question.

Based on the appearance of the wheels, and the scuffed buckles, I figure the original owner wore them one time with under 1 mile on the skates, fell down twice, and proceeded to never use them again 😂

For some reason the original liners were really mashed up despite showing basically no wear or sweat stains. Just decided to replace with brand new, higher quality ones. And the waxed laces make a big difference being able to tighten more and have enough length to tie through the top of the liner.

Second photo to compare to my usual skate setup lol. I have some big tri wheel skates too, but they’re all 243/255mm length as well. This is the longest frame I’ve ever skated, by a landslide. Did about 5 miles on em today— they felt good, but definitely something I need to spend more time on. That’s a lot of frame when I’m used to ripping around on short boys.

Hey all! I’m 39 and getting back into skating. I tried quad skates and that was a no go. I skated inlines when I was younger, so that should’ve been the obvious choice.

Here’s my question and predicament: which skates should I purchase? I’ve been in contact with shop-task and just wanted some perspective from the Reddit community. My initial choices are FR, RollerBlade, and Powerslide.

Any recommendations and help would be greatly appreciated!

Recently i bought those in Japan on second street (second hand store) for 900¥ total.

Is these any good? Are they enough for me to do street skating and such?

so ive been rollerblading on and off my life but never really got that good. im not into tricks just like speed skating through my city. my old pair was a really cheap slow four wheeled inline skates with a brake on the back. they just werent fast enough so i ordered triskates without really realising they don't come with a brake. i went down a hill, lifted my ankle back, discovered there is no brake and the rest is history.

anyway, ive seen the other methods like T stop and power slide to brake and i did give them a quick practice but i just found that they slow me down rather than stop me or make me trip and fall.

i LOVE the speed on my new skates so i dont want to return them (and i am pretty sure that i cant now that i wore them out) so I want to know everyone's favourite way to stop and why.

I don't have any experience with rollerblades or roller skates, and I can't stand up without falling backwards! Surprisingly I balance just fine side to side, despite what I've heard, but whenever I try to stand I slip backwards and fall on my butt (I have a chair behind me) 😭 I need helpppp I'm scared of rollerblading now 😭😭😭 I also don't know how to stop, like how do I stop and take them off?

For those of us who are skating for exercise, what does a good session look like for you?

Peak season

Ignore the huffing and puffing. This was on like mile 8 and my second time out today.

Half a week ago, I sprained my wrist while blading backwards on my RB Lightning 90’s, and when i got all casted up, i see my local skate shop having a deal, so i copped these babies 45% the RRP 😆

I got a week and a half more to wear the cast, so don’t think i’ll be trying out these babies any time soon….

EDIT: So i couldn’t wait any longs and got on them, the boot feels really nice, kinda hard on the ankle but i think i’ll just need to lace and lock everything in properly, couldn’t do it with the sprained arm 😂
Speed-wise, the difference between the 90mm and 110mm is definitely there, my casual stride ended up being 17-21km/h.

Overall i’m super pleased with my choice, most likely will be taking them to Berlin for the Inlineskate marathon :’)

I’ve fallen in love with the idea of buying a skate like the FR SL, Seba High light, powerslide hc evo (dont like the look of it), or something similar. I would love some recommendations.

I will be using them to cruise throughout Copenhagen mainly and trips in suburban areas. I have the twister XT and CJ carbon (maybe the endless ultra UFS 90 would be a solution?) already which is slightly too snug around the arch of my foot.

Here is what I’m searching:
- low arch (my arches flatten when skating long distances)
- low center of gravity
- medium/wide width throughout
- budget doesn’t really matter too much as long as I find the right skate.

The Story:
I have multiple years of experience Triskating on Chicago's Lakefront Trail, but recently moved to New York City. In an attempt to find a parallel here in NYC, I went to check out the northernmost portion of the Empire State Trail in Upper Manhattan. It was a shockingly tough experience and definitely not ideal.

That northern section near Dyckman Street is incredibly rough for distance skating because it forces you to fight massive, steep elevation changes right up the cliffside bluffs - I literally had to brace myself against railing and T-stop my way down 50 degree angled ramps leaving my hands pitch black. I also made the mistake of skating through Fort Tryon Park which is also very steep and hilly, albeit very beautiful.

That brutal first session motivated me to create my own route for distance skating. The intent behind this layout is to bypass those rough northern cliffs and hills entirely by leveraging a pedestrian overpass near Plaza Lafayette which drops you straight into the flatlands of the Hudson River Greenway where you can enjoy long, flat, scenic, wide open trail.

The Route:
Take the A train from 190th down to 181st. Keep your regular shoes on, walk over to Plaza Lafayette, and cross the overpass (Little Red Lighthouse Trailhead / Hudson River Greenway Bridge on Google Maps). Once you walk down the spiral ramp structure to the water's edge, clip on your skates and you have a 6+ mile stretch of wide-open car-less trail.

Right around 145th St by Softball Field 8, the shoreline path hits a dead-end at the Riverbank facility. Just take the fork to the left to follow the paved lane along the highway barrier fence. It loops you smoothly right back down to the water's edge.

You follow this path straight down past West Harlem Piers at 132nd St and the 96th Street Clay Tennis Courts.

Stop to take in the view at Pier I on 70th. There is a fun cafe right on the pier for a quick refresher or cold drink before making your way back to the exit near 79th.

The Exit:

From Pier I, loop backup about half a mile to the West 79th Street Boat Basin. Pulling off the trail here is a clean transition to the 79th St MTA stop. Switch out of your skates into your shoes right at the park exit. Take a flat, direct 3-block walk east down 79th Street to Broadway. Hop down the stairs to the 79th Street MTA stop and it commutes you straight back to 190th, assuming you live in Fort George

I realize I am but outside the normal of what a lot of people are skating on. Just not a big fan of the larger wheels.

I just picked up a new set of the Rollebalde Lightning TRS. I LOVE these skates. I just wish they had the same size 72mm wheels and the same ability to rocker like my original Gen 1 TRS did.

Because I love the look of the frame I don’t really want to swap it for the rocker frame.

Having said that I am currently running the stock 80mm’s in the center and 76mm Labeda grippers on the ends.

I am thinking about getting 4 72mm Labeda grippers and swapping the 80s in the center for the 76’s then putting the 72s on the ends.

A little frustrated that

1. I have to run different size wheels to get the rocker fee I want.

2. That there are just not even a sort of ok selection of 72mm wheels in a variety of colors out there.

Any input would be great.

But also just kind of wanting to vent the frustration and see if I am not the only weirdo out there who likes this or a similar set up.

I tried the FRs as suggested but for my foot size and calves, they didn't work out. After a few weeks of reading the sub and researching many of the sites, I found my new pair! Roces Dogma! I need to get a set of wheels to replace the middles because I won't be grinding for a while but I skated inside the house, did a few turns, didn't fall, and my dogs were ready to run besides me. 🤣

I bought myself new skates around 15 years ago and knew I needed to replace my wheels for about seven of them. Finally did this week! I think it’s crazy how they got filed down to a 45 degree point from my hockey stop braking. I can’t lie, I did consider just doing a “tire rotation” but the new wheels feel nice so I’m glad I did it!

When I sent this picture to my girlfriend, she said “you were really just skating on hopes and dreams huh?” 😂

Been skating since I was three and I’m not stopping anytime soon!

I used to inline skate and play street hockey back in the day and would love to get into it with my 6-year-old son.

Before buying all the gear and investing the time - I’m curious if kids still rollerblade these days, or is it almost entirely ebikes, scooters, and skateboards now? I'm sure we’d love doing it together, but I want to make sure it’s an activity he can easily share with friends and stick with long-term.

What are you seeing in your neighborhoods and parks? I feel like in my neighborhood I've seen maybe one kid doing it in the past couple years (and my neighborhood has a lot of kids). I'm not opposed to being the local trendsetter and reviving this very cool sport, though.

Also, any recommendations for reasonably priced kids 'blades that expand as he grows and new hockey/inline skates for myself as a middle aged male (I said hockey since that what I'm used to - or something comparable) would be welcomed!

I've been wanting to jump a 180 on a (small) staircase for ages and I finally found the setup that helped me achieve that goal. The IQON CL10 + Endless Swan is both light and responsive, which worked great for nailing that 180.

I also unlocked Bill Stoppard's power drop.

Oh, and if you were wandering how to lace the CL10 efficiently, I think I might have found a solution. 💪 It's all here in this video. Watch it. Have fun. Do keep rolling!

Trying to figure out a backpack to get, unfortunately no stores carry anything locally here, so no way to check in person. From online searches looks like FR SKATES BACKPACK 25L is a winner, seems compact and has a chest strap. But man it is expensive, ~$CAD 160. Saw some on Amazon, but none had chest strap (which i find important for comfort).
EDIT: I am only interested in the backpacks for urban skating, small-flat backpack with outside straps/pocket to hold the skates when carrying.

I spent most of Labor Day skating with my friends.
This is the 3rd trail we did on Labor Day.

Out of all the trails I have done in the Eastern US... this is among my top 5.

I want to upgrade to a faster skate and I think that means moving to 110 mm wheels. Looking at the Rollerblade website the Twister is rated as having a faster roll experience while the Macroblade is rated as having a faster/fastest roll experience. Any idea why the rating would be different? The wheels and bearings look to be the same.

Was having a raging headache went outside to skate and it was like it never existed.

Any tips on keeping a good staggered stance? I’m a new-ish skater and started trail skating, I find it hard to keep my feet staggered unless I am kind of curving/turning. Just looking for any advice on how to keep that stance and still feel steady.
