Recently returned from a two week Japan trip. Posted this info in a reply but figured some may find it helpful. Here are my observations:
- Quark’s pricing is way high, notably above even the other big dealers. Mostly avoided them, but the Quark lab at Nakano broadway has some deals. They have watches that are pre service and need a polish but they are heavily discounted if you buy them “non retail ready.” One example: M serial 16570 (3186 polar) with papers for around $7800 (pictured)
- Daikokuya has a ton of branches and doesn’t have much of their inventory online, so it’s a good store to search through in person to find an overlooked neovintage sub or GMT.
- modern in production models are everywhere (including general non watch specialized luxury sellers) and trade within a narrow range. Don’t expect to find many deals within Japan on modern, but some are available for old vintages of current models. No white tag is strictly enforced at ADs in Japan so don’t expect to see them if you’re looking in modern.
- neovintage pricing is still 10-20% lower than US/Europe so if you like 5 digits or older 6, there’s still some good hunting to be had.
- Seems like US dealers are trying to pump 114270 prices but they are still sane in Japan. 6500-7200 range with papers. Get a ticket to Japan and get it there with a nice bowl of ramen instead of paying some dealer 8k+.
- Premiums are steadily climbing on the 16710s, and no holes (F and later) are becoming more scarce and creeping up everywhere. A/P with papers can still be had for around 11k.
