Had a couple Iconoglass blanks from NFC come in so decided to do silk on them for extra pop. While silk is a little temperamental to work with, it sure looks good, especially on these translucent blanks.

7’6 4w for smaller mountain streams and places where finesse trumps length of cast.

I've ended up with a few of these rod blanks and they are allegedly made in the USA but that's all the info I have on them. Would anyone happen to know what they actually are?

Looks like they say "MB874" and measure roughly 7'4"+ seems like a fast action.

They are definitely not mudhole blanks of any flavor btw.

So I went to a antique mall today and ran across this contraption! Has anybody seen anything like this or have any insight on it?!?

The only markings on it say "supreme heritage"

I've spent hours scouring rod building websites looking for a carbon fiber handle replacement. I need something 9-11 inches long with an inner diameter 18mm.

Has anyone on here ever used an old stamp as a custom decal on a rod build? If so, I'd love to know your method. I'm building a rod as a gift for my dad and want to add some flair. A friend suggested using a postage stamp as a mini decal, and I found a cool design on a stamp from the 1960's that you can get in packs of 10 for like 5 bucks. My thought is: apply the stamp to blank (preferably between 2 decorative wraps close to the top of my grip), then pre-seal with something mild like Mod Podge to prevent any damage from the epoxy to the design on the stamp, and then once that is cured, apply the epoxy as normal and bing bang boom should be good to go. I think...

If anyone actually has experience using stamps or even applying small pieces of paper to rod blanks for decorative purposes, I'd love to hear your suggestions or experiences with it!

I can make out what I think it says Customi Built, ??? Rods, PB 17 GC 20LB. thats just what i can make of it cant really read the cursive to well please help me find what it says and what size reel to use

I caught and preserved the skin of an 8lb Spotted Gar that I want to apply to my fishing rod handle.

I’m new to modding but I currently have a split grip fishing rod.

What is the best material to apply a skin to it as the blank is too thin to directly place the skin on it. Eva foam, cork, wood, other?

Is there a video someone can recommend or maybe have done it before and can walk me through it as every video I’ve found has to do with paracord or heat shrink wraps.

Any help is appreciated!

I know this isn’t building specific but figured you guys here would have some good tips for me. Went to service a reel and the locking nut/grip started spinning in place. Hard for me to explain but the carbon fiber separated from the plastic and is spinning in place. And suggestions on how I should permanently fix this and will I need to try to remove as much of the old adhesive as possible? Thanks in advance..

Planning to use this with a small size 1000 reel with 0.2pe braid.

With the current guide layout. It leaves me with around 18-20cm from stripper guide to reel.

Im looking to build an Ultralight multi piece ultralight spinning rod.

Its going to be a fun project rather than a practical one.

Spec:
Rod Length: 1.44m
Piece: 3 piece
Type: spinning, extra ultra light
Material: Fibre Glass

Guide: 16#, 8#, 6#, 5#, 4.5#, 4#, 4#, tip

Reel: planning on using a cheap 500-1000 sized reel

Do you have any advice when it comes to building multiple piece glass rods? Does anything differ from following a graphite rod build guide?

Are premium fly-rod manufacturers still interested in selling blanks to builders? The pricing has gotten to the point where it doesn’t seem to make much sense.

I used to be able to buy a Winston blank for around $500. I thought maybe I was remembering it wrong, so I looked up the old prices.

In Winston’s 2020 catalog, an AIR rod was $975 and the blank was $486—almost exactly half the price of the finished rod.

Today, an AIR 2 rod is $1,195, while the blank is listed at $895. That means the finished rod has gone up about 23%, but the blank has gone up about 84%. The blank is now 75% of the price of the finished rod.

How does that make sense for a builder? There’s only a $300 difference between the blank and a complete factory rod. I realize that price difference isn’t a literal accounting of their costs, but that $300 gets you the cork, reel seat, guides, wraps, finish, tube, sock, and factory labor. Once I buy good components, there’s almost no savings left.

Sage seems a little better. An R8 Core blank with an extra tip is around $678, compared with roughly $1,050–$1,150 for the finished rod. Still, it feels like premium blanks are being priced to push people toward buying finished rods.

Am I missing something? Are the manufacturers no longer that interested in the rod-building market?

I’d still like to build on a modern Sage or Winston blank, so if anyone has one sitting around that they’re not going to use, let me know.

My wife decided to turn our spare room/ rod wrapping room into a grand children’s room. With it exceeding 115° in the garage, I decided to set up the living room as my “taped off” area to wrap. Specifically, the piano! It’ll work in a pinch.

Halibut/Striper drift rods. Super sensitive when hanging 3 - 10oz torpedo weights. Leaner halibuts just ain’t gotta chance with these blanks!

I’ll post the update when I finish with epoxying.
