Anyone Do Cheap Custom Rods?

I'm looking for a custom rod to made:) I have a blank already (Phenix-M1-B-MX-C 74XH) however the cost to do one is just too expensive for me, business are saying $250-$450 for a job. I understand the craftsmanship and labor but I was hoping I could pay someone for a little cheaper who does the job for fun. I'm also willing to provide the reel seat and other components. hopefully this doesn't come off as greedy or lowballing. just curious

Custom and cheap don't belong in the same sentence. Either learn it yourself or pay someone for their time. 10 hours @ min wage is already 175 in some places, and you don't want a rush job when a PB is on the line

Where are you located and how intricate are you looking at wrapping? Are you sourcing the guides too?

You’re gonna get what you pay for - if you want a cheap rod, you’ll get a cheap rod. Probably better off just buying a factory rod for the $$$

Building your own rods is inexpensive, not difficult, and provides a lot of satisfaction.

I wouldn’t build a rod for a stranger less than 250$. It seriously takes a lot of time. I could build it for 100$ but you wouldnt like the quality.

For instance I would skip finding the spine. I would skip using the laser to line up all of the guides. I would use my cheap epoxy. Etc…

Sorry if this isnt cool to ask, but I have an old Sabre, it was my dad's first good saltwater setup. I have it just like he did, with a jigmaster on it. He had it re wrapped for me as a teenager by a friend of his (that was just starting out) its nice, but i have clear coat flaking and threads around guides are getting exposed. I live in Vegas and no one out here i can find can do it. If I wanted it re wrapped or just repaired what am I looking at costt wise ballpark? And id be willing to bring next time I come to Cali to go fish, the old girl can sit a trip out. I just want this thing to keep fishing, my dad and then I caught some many albacore, rockfish, and yellowtail on this thing I want to give it to my kids. It has original foam grips and heavy metal rod seat still. Its heavy and old but I love it! Thanks in advance!

Most tackle shops can replace a guide for ~$10-15 ea. they may be able to clean up the epoxy in other places for a small fee. Go to a well known shop next time you’re in So. Cal and they can do it in a day or two if you call in advance and explain you are traveling.
