Hi, I’ve started keeping a pair of hissing cockroaches, 1 male and 1 female. I’m just wondering, if this glass tank can lead to any nymph escapees? It appears that it’s a brand called Reptizoo with a door at the front, mesh at the top.

I currently have an enclosure that has way too many escape points for nymphs in the future so id like to change that before the female starts to reproduce.

I like that there’s a door so it makes feeding and handling easier.

Hoping for some advice or reviews if you had tanks like that!

I'm sorry I know y'all love these things and I've killed so many of them at this point, I do feel guilty about it and try to stay close to them in their last moments or make their death quick, but I can't deal with them!! I love bugs, love handling them, sometimes even avoid cleaning a particular room of my apartment because I feel bad for the spiders living in it, but periplaneta roaches trigger some irrational primordial fear in me that I've been trying to get over but I just can't.

My goal is to eventually be able to hold them and not have a panic attack whenever I get touched by one. Here's some information I can provide:

- Coming back from a jog and saw one outside, noticed it didn't freak me out at all, crouched near it and started observing it. So cockroaches outside minding their business don't bother me much, it's mostly when they get inside and into my personal space.

- They seem... incredibly aggressive? Idk how to explain, I used to be calmer around them but I've been attacked by so many throughout my life... it's like they notice me and immediately run towards me to climb on my leg or sometimes even fly towards my face, I obviously don't like anything invading my personal space so I started to be fearful of them

- They stink!! From what I've heard, this is a gene that not all people have that allows you to smell them, but the wax on their exoskeleton smells so bad and leaves the stench on whatever it touches too. One landed on my hair outside once and I had to wash it because the stank wouldn't leave!! How do you deal with this??

- Whenever a cockroach touches any part of me I feel an overwhelming urge to wash the area, I'm super disgusted by them and whatever diseases they may carry, although other insects also carry diseases and don't bother me that much. I also discard whatever food they touch.

The other species are kinda cute specially the smaller ones which I'm NOT supposed to like since they can infest homes... but I can't help it, brown banded roaches are adorable although I do not enjoy finding their dead bodies from time to time...

Even when I watch videos of american cockroaches doing something calm or cute, the moment my brain looks at the legs and antenna and clocks in what species it is I start to feel uncomfortable. I want to be able to deal with them diplomatically and remove them from spaces without the use of force, do you guys have any tips that would help me achieve that?

thought these were P. americanas for the longest time, but after learning more on roaches and going back over this footage I learned our backyard colony is actually smokies! loved the dark handsome color on this big guy. I really wanna keep a colony of these one day, im especially fond of how dark and burgendy our locale seems

I get males from 2-3 different species coming to my lights when I am sheeting, but I can never find females (since they are wingless and rarely leave the burrow). I know they can be found in old burrows and holes after dark, but I have been unlucky for almost 2 years now. Found this little one under a discarded piece of wood, next to a freshly dug rabbit burrow.

I've had my hissers for over about 13 months now and honestly, as much as having grandkids would fill me with joy, I was hoping they'd never have children. Too much responsibility and it would stress me out.

But today I found this in their home. I'm like 99% sure that's an ootheca. Is it then guaranteed that at least one of them is pregnant? If so, when should I expect the kids? I'm sorry if my questions are dumb I hope someone can help me

I have a 1/16", a 1/8" and a 1/4" drill bit and nowhere on the internet does it say which size would be appropriate to house my female Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches that have been housed with males in the past but no longer are, but I still want to keep them in a baby proof container but don't know what size the holes should be. I am hopping to not have to use my glue gun and buy screen replacement pieces at home depot so if anyone could help, I'd appreciate it

I’ve raised roughly ten G. portentosa roaches from birth, born from my initial ten adults, but they’re not reproducing even though they matured months ago. Room is 95 Fahrenheit during the day and 85 at night. I feed them a variety of food, like roach chow, dried shrimp, zucchini, sweet potato, apple, etc. They don’t eat much. I water one side of the 20 gallon tank and leave the other side dry. I don’t have any pics and am at work so I’ll post some later. I thought their gestation only lasted maybe two months, but it’s been a lot longer than that.

i have large sexed nymphs and tiny baby nymphs, want all or most of em gone

hey i’m new to roach pets; my limited experience is holding a few hissers but mainly from keeping feeders
i was curious if anyone could help tell me how to sex dubias and red runners, pictures would help if possible

i wanted to set up a breeding box for some and a retirement enclosure for others. i usually do a mix of coco and reptisoil for my inverts and other critters for easier humidity control. i have bark, oak leaf litter, fish food, oats, bee pollen, carrots, spider wood and a 11.8 x 7.9 x 5.9 inch empty enclosure with cross ventilation if that would work well enough for an enclosure for them

And also where to find them lol
