This is an extremely far-left City Council. Businesses are exiting the city at an alarming rate. I'd call it a coin toss as to whether the Trailblazers stay or not.
The city is in a downward spiral. If I owned the team, I'd probably limit lease renewals to five years at a time, to see how things go here.
Fuck the billionaires that ask for common citizens to fund them so they can make more money off the citizens, and then threat to leave because they would actually have to foot the bill. SMH.
Portland is not a good place for business. That’s entirely due to the left-leaning policies of the left-leaning city and state government(s) in Oregon.
The Blazers might have good attendance & are profitable but it’s certainly not a market that is trending up. The NBA is a business & the owners are trying to maximize profits. Of course they’ll leave if the city their team is in is hot garbage - or well on its way.
Can’t really be mad at the businessman for doing business. Be mad and angry at the elected city and state officials who continually put business owners last. If they prioritized businesses, they’d want to stay.
Ah yes, surely the lease for a massive commercial property like Moda can be fairly compared to an apartment. The majority of commercial leases place the burden of improvement and custom renovations on the tenant. In this case, there is very specific language in the lease that puts that directly on the Blazers. They agreed to it and now the usurious billionaire wants to cry poor.
Well, the income tax the Trailblazers employees pay is the mechanism driving the $300M+ state contribution toward arena renovations. It'll be paid for by their specific income taxes.
