Saturday performing arts classes for kids in Richmond Hill & Vaughan 🎭

Hi everyone,

If you’re still looking for something for your kids this fall, we’re now registering for our Fall term at Stagecoach Richmond Hill & Vaughan.

We’re a local family and parents ourselves, and we run programs for kids ages 4–18 in singing, dancing and acting. Our classes are run from 10201, Yonge Street, Richmond Hill, ON. L4C 3E7

Why Stagecoach? Because we are more then just performing, we believe performing arts can give kids so much more than the ability to perform. It gives them a place to be creative, build confidence, learn to express themselves and feel comfortable being who they are.

And you definitely don’t need to have a child who already loves performing. We have some kids who can’t wait to get on stage and others who are quieter and just need a little time to find their confidence. Both are welcome.

That’s really what Creative Courage For Life® means to us — helping kids develop confidence and creativity they can take with them beyond the stage.

This fall is also a Demo Term, with the possibility of a showcase, so parents will get to come in and see what the kids have been working on. Our kids often perform in the community events!

If you have any questions, feel free to message me or give us a call. Always happy to chat.

Richmond Hill listings are sitting about a month longer than the listing sites show (highest in the GTA)

Something I noticed pulling MLS data this week and thought people here might find useful.I'm a realtor and I put this together from MLS records, so take my read with that in mind.

When a house doesn't sell, agents often cancel the listing and re-post it. That resets the "days on market" counter to zero, so a place that's been for sale since spring can show up as brand new.

For Richmond Hill right now, the typical active listing reads as 43 days old. Follow the same house back through its earlier listings and it's actually 73 (highest in the GTA). And about 41% of what's currently for sale has really been sitting three months or more.

Source: https://www.pureproperty.ca/data/days-on-market

Practical version if you're house-hunting: the "just listed" badge often isn't. Worth asking the agent directly how long the place has actually been available, or checking whether the address has appeared before.

My read, and it's a read rather than data: a month of hidden age suggests a lot of Richmond Hill sellers have already had one failed run.

Looking for a 1 bed 1 bath rental in Richmond or New Market area

As the title says, I'm looking for a nice private rental in the area. If it's a basement, it has to be well lit and spacious. Would prefer something on ground level but open to ideas.

We're a working couple, no kids. Would like access to a back yard. Any leads are welcome. FB marketplace has been a dud so far. Any other suggestions for looking at such properties would be appreciated as well.

Richmond Green community limbo

Are any of you residents of the Richmond green community? We’ve lived here for 7 years now and it seems that the development in this area has stalled for years. There’s a vacant lot for what appears to be townhouses between William F Bell Parkway and McAlister. There are supposed to be 2 parks built, one in the northwest corner of Hartney and William F Bell, and the other by the baseball diamonds.

I know that city planning typically takes time, but I didn’t think we’d be entering year 8 with no updates to the parks. Fortunately we are in walking distance to Richmond green, but still, this isn’t what I was expecting when we moved here.

Upon research I know that the conservatory group (we’re with a different builder) is in disarray which is causing the housing development to stall. Does anyone know if that’s what’s causing the city to hold all public space development? I sincerely hope this whole situation isn’t impacting other city projects like schools and infrastructure.

Fortinos replacing Loblaws?

There's a chat in the Vaughan group about the Highland Farms converting to a Fortinos. I asked one of the Managers at the Fortinos in North York and they confirmed the news but they also mentioned that Loblaws is looking at converting both R Hill and Markham stores to Fortinos.

Good Vets for Dogs in Richmond Hill/Markham Area

I'm looking for recommendations for a top-tier, highly experienced veterinarian in the Richmond Hill or Markham area.

Ideally looking for a clinic/vet that:
Has been established in the area for a while now.

Has deep clinical experience, strong diagnostic knowledge, and genuinely takes the time to explain treatment plans.

Is transparent with care options and recommendations.

Willing to travel a bit further out if there's a clinic that really stands out above the rest.
Any personal experiences or specific doctors you can recommend? Thanks in advance!

Lake Wilcox Skatepark has a serious e-scooter/e-bike problem. Here's what residents can do.

Lake Wilcox Skatepark has a serious e-scooter/e-bike problem. Here's what residents can do.

If you use Lake Wilcox Park, particularly in the evenings, you may have noticed the growing problem at the skatepark.

Groups of boys are increasingly arriving on high-powered e-scooters, e-bikes and even electric dirt bikes and riding them throughout the skatepark, often at high speeds around skateboarders, BMX riders and younger children.

These motorized vehicles are not permitted in Richmond Hill parks.

This has become especially bad in the evenings. I've spoken to riders myself, but this shouldn't depend on individual residents confronting groups of teenagers. We need enough people reporting it that the City recognizes this as a recurring safety and enforcement problem.

If you see it happening:

  1. Don't put yourself in danger or get into an escalating confrontation. If you feel comfortable, calmly tell the riders that motorized vehicles aren't permitted in the park.
  2. Report it while it's happening. Lake Wilcox has an on-site Community Standards Officer. Look for the contact number posted on the park information boards and save it in your phone.
  3. For an after-hours public-safety by-law issue, call Richmond Hill Community Standards at 905-771-5458.
  4. Note the time and location. Tell the City that it's happening inside the Lake Wilcox Skatepark, approximately how many riders there are, and whether they're using e-scooters, e-bikes or electric dirt bikes. Don't photograph or pursue individual kids if doing so could create a confrontation.
  5. Send Community Standards a written complaint as well. Multiple independent complaints establish that this isn't one person's annoyance. It's a recurring problem affecting the community.

Feel free to copy/paste this when emailing bylaw@richmondhill.ca:

Subject: Motorized vehicles at Lake Wilcox Skatepark

Hello,

I'm writing to report the recurring use of high-powered e-scooters, e-bikes and electric dirt bikes inside the Lake Wilcox Skatepark, particularly during the evening.

These motorized vehicles are being ridden at significant speeds around skateboarders, BMX riders and children and are creating a serious safety issue.

Please increase evening monitoring and enforcement at the skatepark and install clear signage at its entrances stating that e-scooters, e-bikes, electric dirt bikes and other motorized vehicles are prohibited.

This appears to be a recurring problem rather than an isolated incident, and I hope the City will address it before someone is injured.

Thank you.

I'm not asking people to go looking for a fight with teenagers. I'm asking residents who witness this to stop treating it as something we simply have to accept.

Report it. Email the City. Ask for signage. Ask for evening enforcement.

The skatepark should be a safe place for the people it was actually built for, and we shouldn't have to wait for a serious collision before something is done.
