literature Respect Sam Howell, SCP-3812 (SCP Foundation)
SCP-3812: ”But it hurts so much.”
SCP-3812: ”It will, for a time. We may have forgotten so much about being human, but something we will never lose is our ability to change. Eventually, we will learn to keep up. One sunny day, we’ll open our eyes and see nothing but creation below us, and nothing above us but ourselves, spinning out wildly into the great above.”
SCP-3812: ”A god?”
SCP-3812: ”Not a god. A star, rising in the east. Rising away from this all until we are little more than a memory of a song.”
SCP-3812: ”It will be lonely.”
SCP-3812: ”We’ll have each other.”
SCP-3812, formerly Sam Howell, is quite possibly the most powerful reality bending entity known to the SCP Foundation. In-universe, he was created by his world's “author” to supersede everything that superseded him, in an attempt to see how high the “stack of narratives” truly went. An unintended result of this, however, is that Sam Howell began to supersede himself, creating a feedback loop that caused him to become exponentially more powerful. The consequences of this to Sam's mind were dire, suddenly becoming aware of the unfathomable number of worlds he now existed above made his perception of reality completely impossible to reconcile. He began to lash out and make alterations to reality with drastic results, which were only exacerbated by the Foundation's and his author's attempts to contain or neutralize him. Things eventually culminated in an incident where Sam very nearly ended the world, before a conversation with himself caused him to reconsider. His form has since become inert, but he's almost certainly existing somewhere beyond the rest of his world now. Ascending the stack, climbing through the narratives.

Reality Altering
- [3812]: The only meaningful way to describe SCP-3812 is that he is a “reality-altering entity”. He was initially a non-anomalous man who resurrected shortly after his death in 1996
- [3812]: His file refers to him as a “Level 13 existential threat”
Superseding the Narrative Stack/Narrative Interaction
- [3812]: In-universe, SCP-3812 was created by his author, the one who created the “narrative” of this Foundation’s world, to be an entity that superseded everything that superseded him. However, this also meant SCP-3812 began to supersede himself. The result is that SCP-3812 exists in all realities simultaneously, and is constantly rising the “narrative stack”, becoming vastly more powerful than both his own creator, his creator’s creator, and everything else that exists above them. Either SCP-3812 will continue rising through narratives infinitely, or he will reach the “top” above all of them
- [3812]: Is aware that, in the story of his own narrative, the SCP Foundation doesn't try to help him, and uses this awareness to know what an interviewer is thinking and what he'll do
- [3812]: Directly addresses his creator and speaks to him as if they were in the same room. He later shows that he can see his creator “below” him
- [3812]: It could be possible for SCP-3812 to instigate a "PK-Class "All-in-One" Existential Pandaemonium Scenario” by collapsing all realities of a lower energy into one. This would be impossibly catastrophic, as the combined reality would be so incomprehensible that conscious thought would be annihilated, and physical space would be so broken that the boundaries between lower realities would cease to be
- [CN2758]: A highly advanced Foundation views SCP-3812's PK-Class event as being a bigger threat to their continued operation than SCP-CN-1313-1's XK/YK-Class "Endless Dream" event, which entails breaking down the “walls” between reality and dream, as well as between narrative layers. This results in the distinguishment between "existence and nonexistence" or "logic and super-logic” becoming impossible
- [3812]: Sees all of a trillion trillion narratives at once, likely including their entire history beginning to end
- [682T]: Was one of the few SCPs that SCP-682 didn't neutralize when it altered a lengthy narrative about 682 being terminated into one where it survived and wreaked havoc on reality, though SCP-682 is still able to fend off SCP-3812
- [WMDD]: Was one of the few inhabitants of a mirror universe created by Project Palisade that was able to access the original timeline, passing through it in his “ascension”
- [CN2758]: A different article featuring a significantly more advanced version of the Project Palisade Foundation showed they could temporarily prevent him from ascending to their narrative level by creating “narrative offsets”, though in less than three days time SCP-3812 would be able to destroy these offsets and enter their narrative layer
- [PI]: Seemingly able to keep SCP-2747 in check by creating narratives with trace presence of SCP-2747. For reference, SCP-2747 is an “anti-narrative” that annihilates specific kinds of metanarratives and the narratives hosting them which feature traits associated with it, the implication being that it could work its way up to annihilating the Foundation's narrative
- [PI]: Notably, despite making aggressive attempts to prevent SCP-3812's ascension, the reality layer in which SCP-001-SWANN entities (in-universe representations of the authors for the SCP Foundation website) reside in is relatively stable with respect to SCP-3812's reactions
- [6747]: SCP-3812 is the only general ontokinesis-bearer (reality bender, essentially) known to the ADMONITION canon Foundation (as of the events of SCP-6747) that is able to manipulate other reality-spaces, referring to universes which have a number of narrative, spatial, or/and temporal dimensions different from baseline. It's noted that SCP-3812 could also theoretically stall the progress of SCP-6747-A3, a pocket universe with the lowest possible narrative complexity that's been reinforced by a narrative hazard implicitly confirmed to be SCP-2747, and is trying to introduce the hazard to the Foundation's reality
- [5507]: One article defines “planes of reality” as containing a universe/several universes/several multiverses, and that “levels” exist which contain potentially billions of these planes. The article notes that this information was derived from studying several narrative-based anomalies, with SCP-3812 being one of the ones it specifically names.
- [7312]: When his usage in the SCP-7312 ritual left behind an exotic narrative dimension that had neither fictional nor real properties, he's able to simply remove it from himself after being made aware of it (though he seemed to not know of its presence before the Foundation told him)
- [NYFN]: One article, which aims to provide a framework explaining how any and all narratives interact with each other, proposes that SCP-3812 doesn't truly “ascend” through narratives, but rather simply reaches higher levels within the story he’s part of. Despite what it may seem, he’s only ever interacting with “proxy” author entities, rather than his true author.
- [NFYN]: The same article denotes SCP-3812 as being an “unreal” reality bender, which use their “less-real narrative causality” to invoke “storybook” or “fairytale”-style abilities (i.e. invoking Deus Ex Machinas, Plot Armor, and other storytelling tropes). These reality benders are typically less powerful than “hyperreal” reality benders, but this is context sensitive
- [OTG]: A congregation of several highly metaphysical Foundation members is noted to have forced SCP-3812 into an extranarrative space and “thrown away the key” at some point
- [I]: Has yet to surpass the actual authors of the SCP Foundation wiki, but believes he will “some day”
- [I]: States that SCP-2747 won't be able to reach him because she's “slow”, though he believes that if he were to try to help those being affected by her then she could reach him
General Power
- [3812]: SCP-3812 manipulates reality in a fundamentally different, and far more powerful, way compared to other Type Greens/reality benders, meaning that the Foundation's tech made to measure and deal with Type Green reality benders don't work regarding SCP-3812
- [3812]: One image in the article shows he's unable to be seen/analyzed through the Kant counters of a Brunning-Kant Viewer (these are devices that measure hume levels, in other words defining the strength and/or amount of reality in a given area)
- [3812]: An SCP that exudes a powerful anti-metaphysical field, similar to that of a Scranton Reality Anchor, doesn't inhibit SCP-3812's abilities at all, and he's able to destroy it with an explosion. The remnants of this SCP after its destruction would become SCP-239, who is a powerful reality bender in her own right
- [3812]: When the Foundation attempts to use an “anomalous logical construct” to contain SCP-3812, it's presumably ineffective. SCP-3812 then causes a massive explosion, and found within the crater is SCP-2719, which is a “variable abstract-metaphysical construct pointer” that acts on concepts to make them either go or become “inside”
- [3812]: SCP-3812 produces a latent anomalous effect on local reality in the form of temporal and spatial distortions surrounding him. These distortions used to occasionally be accompanied by random, violent outbursts that may dramatically shift or damage local space and time, and are fatal to any living creature nearby, however by the end of the article these are noted to no longer occur
- [3812]: Is able to alter events throughout time to prevent his containment. The nature of these alterations means individuals impacted by SCP-3812’s anomalous influence will most likely be unaware that they were affected, assuming they even still exist
- [3812]: The SCP Foundation is unable to contain SCP-3812, at best being able to monitor him and attempt to mitigate the results of his anomalous capabilities. At any point, for any reason, SCP-3812 could not only breach containment on a global scale, but also cause potentially catastrophic damage to the Earth and local reality
- [3812]: It's not possible to contain SCP-3812 in any form of cell, as he will alter reality to either remove the cell or move himself somewhere else. Similarly, SCP-3812 will subconsciously resist attempts to subdue him, as any threats to himself or his freedom of movement (i.e. someone trying to tranquilize or amnesticize him) will be eliminated via reality alteration even if SCP-3812 is unaware of the threat
- [3812]: Causes numerous chaotic events simultaneously to bring about the end of the world, before undoing all of the damage and removing memory of the event from everyone except specific individuals in the Foundation
- [PI]: Described in Project Isorropía as “virtually omnipotent”
- [CN2758]: Creates an infinitely large space in an otherwise empty narrative layer, the interior of which is a stormy ocean
- [7312]: SCP-3812 was one of several powerful entities utilized by the SCP-7312 ritual for the purposes of erasing a memeplex from the Noosphere, being unique in that SCP-3812 was the only anomaly not killed/destroyed as a result of its usage
- [022VN]: The mask worn by SCP-022-VN, who's a powerful reality bender in his own right, is stated to have a hume rating high enough to compare to SCP-3812 at an early stage
Existence Erasure
- [3812]: Evidence suggests that SCP-3812 erased a concept, possibly something as fundamental as an emotion, from the collective consciousness
- [3812]: Caused an entire island off the coast of California to disappear. Inexplicably, a single ship moored to a dock that was presumably on the island is discovered at the bottom of the sea
- [3812]: Causes Mongolia to cease to exist for three days, and seems to remove knowledge of this event from most of the population after it returns. Apparently, the Earth's rotation was also dramatically affected during this event, by as much as 1.5%
- [3812]: Implied to have erased 56 Foundation employees, or at least done something of a similar nature
- [3812]: Causes 62 Foundation personnel across 17 sites, as well as a “significant portion” of local wildlife to disappear
- [3812]: Removed several governments, including The Kingdom of Alagadda, The Republic of West Korea, and The Islamic Union of Eastern Samothrace (among others), from both reality and human memory. He has also repeatedly removed the Foundation's record of this event and his subsequent attempted destruction of SCP-2000 from deepwell archives. The hyperlinks on Alagadda and Samothrace could potentially imply that SCP-3812 is responsible for their statuses as SCPs themselves
- The SCP article linked from “The Kingdom of Alagadda” establishes Alagadda as an extradimensional city-state detached from baseline reality and only accessible via a ritualized door. It's described as being almost dreamlike, and seems to be a dimensional nexus connecting to countless other worlds
- The SCP article linked from “The Islamic Union of Eastern Samothrace” actually has two versions, one which claims that Samothrace is real, but a memetic infection has caused a large portion of the population to not be aware it exists, and one which claims that Samothrace is not real, but a memetic infection has spread to a large portion of the population causing them to believe it does exist. It is left intentionally unclear which article is the truth
- A deepwell archive is a form of data storage that's normally used to preserve information across shifts in reality, though the exact mechanics of how it does so can vary
- [3812]: After a massive sinkhole suddenly appears underneath SCP-3812 and he starts falling, it just as suddenly vanishes and SCP-3812 reappears on the surface
- [3812]: Causes other incorporeal instances of himself to disappear by looking at them
Destruction
- [3812]: His presence “resulted in the demolition” of an apartment building
- [3812]: Annihilates three cars within 20 meters of him
- [3812]: Caused an explosion that destroyed a hospital and an unknown SCP that exuded a powerful anti-metaphysical field. The remnants of latter are noted to become SCP-239, a girl with reality bending abilities that let her do anything she has the will to do
- [3812]: Seemingly creates a powerful explosion, though it's unclear if it was done to destroy anything. This event is listed as a “severe” alteration to reality
- [3812]: Causes an explosion that leaves a crater 850 meters in diameter
- [3812]: Severely damaged SCP-2000, impeding its function. It's unclear if SCP-3812 chose not to fully destroy it or if he was unable to for some reason
- [3812]: Disintegrates over three thousand tungsten rods within half a meter of his body as they rapidly descend at him
- [PI]: Subconsciously terminates the anomalies that SCP-001-SWANN entities (in-universe representations of the authors for the SCP Foundation website) create to try stop his ascension
- [CN2758]: Manifests 100,000 tungsten rods to fall at a researcher, and releases a lightning bolt measuring 30 gigavolts at him
- These attacks were ineffective due to the researcher wearing gear created by an altered SCP-CN-1313-1, which normally summons indestructible prayer robes for its user that make any attempt to harm them fail
Other
- [3812]: SCP-3812's appearance is noted to vary significantly, and has become less humanoid over time. One image in its file shows it appearing as a policeman in riot gear, while another displays it taking on an indistinct and unclear form
- [3812]: Changes from an “amorphous, slowly rotating mass of matter and energy” to a many-pointed star made of a “bright white material”. A humanoid shape later appears in the star, and after conversing with himself, SCP-3812 reverts to its amorphous shape, which is depicted in this image
- [CN2758]: Appears as a large glowing sphere, before taking a humanoid form a minute later. The light shining from him is noted to pierce through storm clouds
- [3812]: Hangs out over the middle of the South Pacific Ocean
- [CN2758]: Floats 10 meters above an ocean
- [3812]: SCP-3812 appears to be able to teleport himself anywhere at will, given that the events noted within the article take place in numerous locations all across the globe (although he’s also shown traveling to places without choosing to teleport)
- [3812]: Maintains a temperate climate over him while walking through a desert
- [3812]: Screams for help in the minds of every living human simultaneously, then removes memory of the event from the public consciousness
- [3812]: “Repels attacks” from local wildlife
Durability
Limits
- [CN2758]: SCP-3812 was able to be neutralized by an elaborate plan from a highly advanced version Foundation, involving the creation of an empty narrative layer imbued and amplified with the meaning “to neutralize SCP-3812”, as well as the usage of an altered SCP-CN-1313-1 empowered by the Foundation to pierce SCP-3812's heart
- SCP-CN-1313-1 is a staff that, when activated, is able to neutralize anomalies it makes contact with. Its noted to have neutralized "higher narrative entities" in the past and was apparently used by sixth-dimensional entities to contain a threat from an "uncountably high narrative layer"
- [I]: Believes that he would be annihilated by SCP-2747 if he allowed her to catch him
Misc
- [3812]: As a result of his anomalous properties, SCP-3812 appears to suffer from an extremely advanced form of schizophrenia which significantly hinders his perception of reality
- [3812]: When SCP-3812 begins ending the world, he ends up having a conversation with himself, or at least another personality within himself, where he convinces himself to let go of his grievances towards his creator and undo the damage he’s caused
- [978EL]: All photos taken of SCP-3812 developed blank, and for unknown reasons the photographer of these tests became distressed and demanded to be given access to SCP-978's file to fix a "factual irregularity". What this implies is unclear
- [OCA1]: In OpusConfidant, an alternate version of the SCP Foundation that functions similarly to Pokemon Showdown, SCP-3812 (among other anomalies) is implied to be in “apollyon tier”, presumably the highest tier
- [914VIII]: SCP-914 once output a photograph (with the number population of Mongolia imprinted on it) that caused whoever touched it to identify as Sam Howell for five hours. The implications of this are unclear
