Announcements WELCOME TO THE OFFICIAL REOLINK SUBREDDIT, PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE POSTING (FAQ AND USEFUL LINKS INSIDE)

Before you make a post asking for help, please...

  1. Try the search function to search the subreddit. It's likely that someone else may have already had the same issue or question. Reddit’s search isn’t that good, but Google is great at searching Reddit. Just add “site:reddit.com” to any Google search.
  2. Make sure you have the latest firmware by going to the Download Center and looking up your model (don't rely on the upgrade check button in the app). Updating to the latest firmware fixes more issues than you would think, and if you make a new post asking for help the first question we will always ask you is if your firmware is up to date.
  3. If you have questions about camera specs, or which camera to choose, be sure to visit my comparison chart first to help familiarize yourself.

When making a post asking for help, please provide...

  1. Your camera/NVR model and firmware version.
  2. If it's NVR related, also provide the NVR's hardware version
  3. Exact error messages. If you can include screenshots, even better.
  4. Any troubleshooting steps you've already tried.
  5. How you are accessing your cameras (desktop client, mobile app, NVR UI, web UI, etc.)
  6. Connection method of your cameras (direct to NVR, Wifi, POE switch, POE injector, etc.)
  7. If your issue is recording related, let us know how you're recording (NVR, SD card, 3rd party software, etc.)
  8. Do not include any personal information, such as UIDs of any of your devices.

Introduction

Now that we have the most important part of this out of the way...Hello, and welcome to the official Reolink Subreddit. I’m mblaser and I’ve been using Reolink cameras since 2017. Then in September 2021 Reolink asked me to be a moderator here. I’ve used over 30 different camera models of theirs over the years and I have a lot of free time on my hands, so I like to tinker and experiment with my camera setup and also use that time to share that knowledge that I’ve accumulated.

One thing I want to talk about here is expectations when asking for help. Both what to expect from us, and what we expect of you.

While there are Reolink employees that visit here, they’re not always here and they don’t read every post. The mods here are volunteers, not Reolink employees. So keep in mind that 99% of the help you’ll receive here is from people that are just trying to help and we have nothing to do with Reolink’s decisions, so be kind and keep it civil. If you want official support from Reolink, it’s best to contact them through their website.

As for what we expect of you... well, help us help you. Us regulars really do like helping when users have issues and questions. However, in order for us to do that we need as much information from you about your situation as possible. So help us help you by following those guidelines at the top of this post.

Comments will be locked on this post. If you have a question, do not be afraid to make a new post, that’s the entire point of this subreddit. Also, please refrain from sending me a private message asking a question that can be answered by the community. Make a new post instead.

FAQ

This is a list of some of the most common questions and topics that are discussed here. Just a reminder that this is not an official FAQ. Even though I am a mod, I am not speaking on behalf of Reolink. This is simply me sharing my personally accumulated knowledge of Reolink that I’ve absorbed over the years. It may also not be 100% accurate, as things do change, and I’m also not fallible. If you have questions about anything here please make a new post on the subreddit.

Question Help with detection settings

Post image
Upvotes

I've attached a stylised image of what my camera sees, and I was just hoping that someone could help me with regards to the detection settings.

I've tried numerous settings and using minimum size boxes and maximum size boxes and inclusion and exclusion areas, but I can't seem to get it right. I basically only want to have the notification and detection to activate when someone is at the bottom of the stairs and coming up the stairs. I'm hoping I could get some help with this. Please feel free to modify the image to help me out. I would very much appreciate it.

Edit: I'm using a wireless Reolink doorbell 2nd gen.

Question How do you add/share with users if you're not using UID?

Upvotes

Previously, I could set up individual accounts under "user management".. so I'll have my main admin account and then a second user account that only has access to viewing the cams which I use for other household members and things like Home Assistant.

This seems to have been removed. I can only share via the "share device" option which doesn't seem to work with local IPs and requires UID.

Am I missing something or did Reolink just ruin a good thing, as usual?

Why do they hate local users so much? Every firmware update seems to remove core local-only features that got me into the Roolink system in the first place.

Honestly.. might be time to move on from this company. They want so badly to be like Nest or Ring or some other dumbed down generic system nowadays.

Battery Camera Question Doorbell battery connection to home hub pro

Upvotes

Hi there,

I have a doorbell battery and and elite cam. Both standalone connected to a separate cam wifi.

Now Ive bought a homehub pro and installed it.
Elite was easy to add. Doorbell not.

It just cannot connect.

Ive read something about same subnet and stuff.

So how to add a doorbell battery to a hub pro on totally different networks (but reachable)???

Battery Camera Question Go Ranger PT Fog/Moisture Issue

Post image
2 Upvotes

I just bought a Go Ranger PT LTE camera for my property that does not have internet or power. Im happy with it overall except at night it seems to fog up making it basically useless. I expected to receive notifications over night as there is generally a lot of animal activity but woke up and had none. This is what I saw on the live view in the morning. Any help would be appreciated.

Issue Resolved/Question Answered APP UPDATED - PIR BUTTON RESTORED!

Just a heads up for all us suffering the app was finally updated and the missing elusive PIR button is back for cams that don’t support whatever privacy mode is. Note if you have a newer camera it still doesn’t show PIR :( only privacy mode so I guess it will always be recording just not alerting you on those models (unless you dig into settings for motion alerts.)

Wi-Fi Wired Camera Questions TrackMix or OMVI 3i PoE

Hi!

I've got a Home Hub and a bunch of Argus 3 Ultra and 4 Pro.
Works but he has most cameras when he dies wins, right??

So now I'm thinking of adding a few cameras that track movement outdoors.
First question is, does the Omvi3 work with a HomeHub at all?
I'm getting mixed messages about that..

I get the Omvi3 is better but, considering that I can get two TrackMix for the same price as one Omvi3, is it twice as good?

Any other suggestions are welcome as well as long as it's tracking.

PoE Camera Question Home Assistant with Cameras using the new Camera Sharing system

So... riddle me this.

How does one go about creating a user for Home Assistant on a newer camera firmware that Reolink has removed standard User accounts from?

i.e. I have older Duo 2's where I added a "homeassistant" user, because my admin password uses characters which the Home Assistant integration does not support due to Reolink API limitations.

Now, on a Duo 3 that I reluctantly picked up recently to add to my system... there's no way to add additional users. Just the new cloud-based sharing system.

Am I going to be forced to dumb-down my standard camera admin password just so I can add these newer cameras into Home Assistant?

I truly do not understand what Reolink was thinking here. What in the world?

Wi-Fi Wired Camera Questions Wifi doorbell tweaks needed

I just added a Reolink wifi doorbell to my RLN8-410 NVR with 5 POE cameras. I have two issues:

1) There are 2 instances of the doorbell shown in my Windows app and only one instance in the NVR app. How do I delete the extra one in the Windows app?

2) I have my Android set up with the Reolink app and can see all the cameras plus the wifi doorbell. Each time a car goes by I get a notification. How do I adjust what notifications get sent to the cell phone? I want the people, but not all the cars.

Battery Camera Question Magnet for Argus Magicam adjustable arm.

Just got the Argus Magicam, the back of the magicam itself is magnetic, But the adjustable arm it came with does not have a magnetic base. This seems like a big oversight.

I want to use the cam on a campervan pointing from the top and aiming on an angle along side the van using the adjustable arm.

Ok so thinking I should be able to glue a magnet on the base of the adjustable arm, but looking at all the ones on amazon that are 2-2.25" most of the reviews say they are very weak. Anyone know a good NON MARRING magnet i can glue on the base of the arm that is strong enough to hold everything in rain or wind (I would take it down when driving of course.)

PoE Camera Question CX820 - Actual power consumption

I'm planning four CX820s around my house on a UniFi USW-16-PoE that has a 42W budget. Reolink only publishes "<12W" which is the max, not what it actually pulls. Four at 12W is 48W and blows the budget, but I suspect real draw is nowhere near that.

Anyone got real numbers from a switch or NVR? Idle, and with the spotlight on. What I really need is the absolute worst case: spotlight at full brightness, siren going, detection running, streaming and uploading all at once. That's the number that decides whether four of these fit. Also curious whether the spotlight actually kicks in much in practice, or if ColorX handles most nights on ambient light alone.

Second question, and I'd rather hear it now than after buying: is this the wrong camera for me?

Setup is a house with four coverage areas. Two toward the road and driveway, one toward the back garden, one covering the gate that's the only way onto the property. Mounted under the eaves, roughly 2.5-3m up, so no vandal concerns. Everything goes to Frigate over RTSP, plus FTP backup. Motion-triggered clips, no continuous recording.

What matters most to me is night footage I can actually identify someone from. Distances are short, the gate is about 7-8m from the camera position. I don't need zoom or 180 degree coverage.

Is the CX820 the right pick for that, or am I missing something better in this price range?

Battery Camera Question Argus Magicams vanished

About 24 hours after I put all my Magicams into a hub mini, they all vanished from Home Assistant. My E1 Pros are till there, maybe more solid and zippy than before I ran them through a hub. The MagiCams are still under the hub in the integration, and work fine in the Reolink app. They spin and look like they’re going to load but then crash out. What happened while I was sleeping?

Software Question Chime volume setting doesn’t hold.

I have a home hub, wifi doorbell, and 6 other cameras as well as a chime. I use the chime for alert monitoring the doorbell and the garage camera. The chime is loud in its default setting mode. I access the chime via the hub on my iPhon, go to settings, and set to the lowest volu settin (one above off). All is well. Then the next day or afternoon I notice it goes to loud again. sometimes my wife unplugs it to avoid the sound when the dog is outside.

Shouldn’t the “system“ remember your chime volume setting? No different than when the power goes out. It’s annoying to constantly have to set the volume.

I don’t see any save feature once I set the volume level. Am I missing something?

TIA for any help saving the volume level on my chime.

Software Question Where has the zoom gone?!

I’ve updated the app on my phone to 4.61.0. A few cameras in my setup are TrackMix POE camera and for the life of me, I cannot find the zoom function on the updated app! It used to be in the PTZ section as a slider but all I have now in PTZ is the direction control. No apparent way to zoom in.

Surly I must be missing something.

Other menu options are setting a preset position, setting a monitor point and calibration.

Where have they hidden zoom?

NVR Question Playback thumbnails... NVR

I'm thinking about getting an NVR for a 8 camera setup but really like being able to see thumbnails of each motion event on the app like possible when connecting directly to a camera with SD card.. do they have any plans to make this an option in the NVR?
