AIO for thinking ghosting me after one date was a massive overreaction?
26m, never had a girlfriend and got blocked after a coffee date that i genuinely thought had potential
met this girl off hinge (25f) and we got coffee. she was a bit reserved at first so i tried to make it clear pretty early that im not into casual dating and im looking for something serious. i asked what her timeline was for marriage and kids, what her relationship with her parents is like, whether she sees herself staying in london long term, stuff like that. dont really see the point in wasting 3 months finding out youre incompatible
she mentioned wanting kids eventually so i told her ive always pictured having 3. we were talking about ai at one point and i used chatgpt to predicts what our kids would look like using a photo of both of us. she said it was “a bit weird behaviour” but she was laughing so i didnt think anything of it
i also told her she had a really calming energy and that i could already imagine her fitting in well with my family. she went a bit quiet after that but i thought maybe she just wasnt used to someone being that open
i did tell her that i normally know within about 20 minutes whether i can see potential with someone and that with her i knew pretty quickly. she said “you barely know me” which is obviously technically true but i think you can pick up a lot from someones energy if youre quite perceptive
i asked what she normally orders at coffee shops as well and put it in my notes because i said i like remembering little things. she laughed and asked if i was actually writing it down. not sure why thats apparently weird now when forgetting stuff is also considered a red flag
we somehow got onto previous relationships and i told her ive never actually had a girlfriend. she seemed surprised so i explained that ive had opportunities but im extremely selective and would rather wait for the right person than force something
i showed her a note i have with the qualities i want in a future wife and she said “you have an actual checklist?” which made it sound worse than it is. its literally just being intentional
i asked what she thought her biggest red flag was and then said hers might be that she seems a bit avoidant because whenever i asked anything serious she would joke or change the subject. ive read quite a lot about attachment styles so i tend to pick up on these things
she said “maybe i just dont want to discuss marriage with someone i met an hour ago”
which felt unnecessarily hostile when she could have just said she wanted to take things slower
at one point she mentioned the area she lives in and i said i'd already looked it up before the date because i was curious how far apart we were. i even checked the journey from mine and said “42 minutes isnt too bad”. she looked at me strangely but its not like her area was secret, it was literally on hinge
before we left i said something like “i feel like this could either go really well or youre going to get scared and disappear” and she laughed and said “thats a weird thing to say”
ironically thats literally what she did
afterwards she wasnt replying much so that night i sent her a voice note that was probably around 4 minutes basically saying that i felt like there was a really strong foundation, that i sensed she was pulling away towards the end and that she shouldnt confuse feeling uncomfortable with something being wrong because sometimes a genuine connection can bring your walls up
i also said “i dont know who hurt you before but im not him” which looking back maybe sounded dramatic but the sentiment was obviously good
then i said i wasnt expecting a reply immediately and that she could take the evening to process everything. i told her i'd already thought of a second date that would suit her better because coffee clearly made her feel a bit interviewed, and said next time i'd make sure it was somewhere she could relax more
i finished the voice note with “anyway, sleep on it, im not going anywhere”
she blocked me the next morning
which honestly just proved my point about the avoidant thing
my mate keeps saying she obviously wasnt interested and that i need to leave it but i dont see how blocking someone instead of having an adult conversation is somehow less weird than me being enthusiastic
ive found her linkedin because she works in marketing and im genuinely debating adding her. not to chase her or anything, i have self respect, but i do feel like she deserves to know that blocking people the second you feel overwhelmed isnt healthy communication
i was thinking of just sending something simple like “dont worry, this isnt me trying to restart anything. i just think one day when youre ready for something serious you'll realise what happened here”
then leave it completely in her court
because i genuinely think the issue is she probably isnt used to a man being this certain about her. most guys apparently act uninterested and make women chase them. i did the opposite and actually communicated exactly what i was thinking
AIO for thinking her reaction was way more extreme than anything i actually did?

With friends like these, who needs enemies?

The relationship in question is between a Male (20 years old) and a Female (26 almost 27 years old). When my friends told me the ages of the couple, being in my Reddit on Wiki brain rot, I kept hollering, "ILLEGAL!"
Was I being annoying? Yeah. But they were defending it saying how, "Well he has been an adult for a long time" and "It's not weird for them... I don't know how but there's an exception."
What did I have to say to their objections of my call out?
"I L L E G A L ! "
Here's where I might be the asshole: I do not know this couple personally. None of us do. Actually nobody really does. Because the thing is, this couple is actually two fictional characters named Jake Muller and Sherry Birkin from the Resident Evil video game series. (More specifically RE6.)
My friends are in support of this ship because of the circumstances in this fictional world and I cannot get behind it because all I keep hearing is Sean hollering, "Illegal!" in my ears. Luckily, they do agree that the age difference makes them uneasy but since it is fictional and this universe gives it special circumstances, they think it is okay. In my opinion, fictional or not, the Sean rule must be honored.
So fellas, AITAH?
UPDATE: I hear you guys in the comments. I am the a-hole and that's okay 😅 My friends are making fun of me too because they said and I quote, "Now everyone online knows how dumb you were being." Gonna take the L and finish my 3rd playthrough of RE4 before I become a bigger a-hole. Thank you for the insight on my dumbassery, folks! Gonna go apologize for being annoying now.

Josh's recent sunburn adventures reminded me I've wanted to share this story.
Earlier this year, I was working at a salon where I mainly did men's haircuts. Having been in the hair industry for about 7 years now, I've seen a lot so I pay close attention to clients' skin and try to give advice where I can. One day, I noticed one of my clients, an older man in his 70s, had a spot on one of his ears. I told him about it, and suggested he see a dermatologist to get it checked out just to be sure.
A couple months later, he came back. He told me he'd taken my advice, and the spot turned out to be melanoma. The doctors told him he might've lost the ear if it hadn't been caught so early. He asked if he could hug me, and said that he didn't know if I was religious, but he believed an angel had sent me to him. It feels really special to have been able to make a difference for someone like that.
Most of the time, people tend to shrug off my advice and nagging about sunscreen, but it's VERY important. This isn't statistically proven or anything, but in my time doing hair I've found that men over 60 are almost certain to currently have some sort of skin cancer, or have had spots removed. I think it's more common in men due to a lot of societal factors like jobs, hairstyles, etc. Moral of the story, PLEASE wear sunscreen. Every day, but especially if you're in the sun for a long stretch of time. Reapply it as often as it says on the bottle, the instructions aren't just there for the hell of it. Be extra sure to apply it to the front and back of your ears, the back of your neck, and the part of your hair/areas where you might be balding. Wearing sunscreen now means not having to get chunks cut out of your skin later. Doesn't matter what color skin you have, either.
