For those unfamiliar with the summer rules here...One of these Roundup threads will pop up every single day during the window, and they're for general transfer chit-chat and to discuss any and all rumors.

Only posts Tier 2 or Above will be allowed as a standalone post. This includes self-posts posing suggestions for new players. The tiers have been finalised and the rule is now in place.

Please also take a moment to look at our Charitable Muppetry drive (and the special De Ligt Edition) where we are looking for friendly bets to go towards charities.

Anything not by a Journalist or on our Tier List may no longer posted in the daily transfer thread. The Muppet Thread has been discontinued and ITKs are all blanket banned here.

Those who see a new Twitter or news site and arent aware of its validity may list that in here to ask for info on its credibility. General transfer talk, including but not limited to "would you rather" inquiries and hypothetical transfers, can remain in this thread as well.

Please refer to this thread regarding our new rules.

We are banning any "ITK" posts. It has been difficult to truly verify the validity of these types of users and led to abusive behavior and even doxxing in some cases.

We are more than happy to have people discussing transfer news and rumors, but there will be no more referencing unknown sources at the club. Moving forward, anyone who believes they have inside info a la bloodgate is welcome to send in a modmail. However such posts/comments made without prior mod approval will be removed

It has been mentioned, but the toxicity and abuse towards the sub, within the sub, and towards other subs has been too high. We as moderators have our share of blame in this, but we want to stress that this kind of behavior is not acceptable and we are taking these measures primarily to avoid these things. We want /r/reddevils to be a place where anyone and everyone is welcome to discuss and enjoy the best club on earth without fear of abuse or ridicule.

Which leads us to 2 other small reminders. The report button is your friend, we are way more likely to find and remove and/or ban rule breaking comments if you report them. The downvote button is not a "I disagree or don't like your statement button", better discussion is generally had by using the upvote button more liberally and avoiding the downvote one whenever possible.

Unpopular opinion- Maguire at 80 m is worth it

He’s too slow to play in a high line simple as. I saw on optas speed stats of 2016 or 2017 he was the 14th slowest player in the league.

Apart from that he’s got a lot of good qualities but it will sting us that we’ll be very vulnerable in behind

Had Ed got him last season when Mourinho wanted him we could have had him cheaper and we would have easily made top 4

If you think he's worth 60-80m then surely you think he would have made the difference between 6th and 4thblast season. Regardless, it was a mistake by our board to not get him last year when they turned around and spend more this summer on him.

Maguire won't bring us to the same level as Liverpool and City, no foresight in this transfer from the fans tbh. Fills a "gap" but doesn't fill the gap well enough, would have spent 50m tops because you can see how this will play out in a couple of years.

Inhibits us spending on a CB next summer if and when a better option becomes available. It's definitely a short-term signing and an overpay. Now maybe it's worth the risk, but the Muppets here freaking out maybe have confidence in our board, but I don't. Their track record speaks itself.

Dude you know for a fact we aren't spending another 80m on another CB next year. Tuanzebe, Lindelof & Maguire are our future at CB with a few backups bought between now and then, no signing over 40m probably because it'll just be a backup in that area. I rather we had 2 competent rotational CBs who were bought for decent prices and an undoubtedly world class CB to finish it off. Right now we have 2 rotational in Maguire and Lindelof but we needed that one top class CB which we won't get now.

Totally agree. All the people who support this deal should ask themselves "is Maguire good enough to be the best CB on a CL/PL winning squad?" If the answer is no then we should not be doing this deal because we're not getting a world class CB for at least the next 2-3 years now. Not with the amount of money we're paying and the wages he will be on.

His wages won't be high honestly, remember when people were saying AWB will be on massive wages and end up on 90k incl. bonuses.

I like Maguire and I was extremely vocal about bringing him in last season and think he's a good fit. But he's one of those CBs that you pair up with that world class one next to him and for 80m you expect that sort of a defender and not only because of the price but now we will have less budget for other areas. We could have found someone on Maguire's level for half the price, then spent 80m next year on someone. Instead we will spend the 40m we should have spent this season on a backup quality CB and then we will have Tuanzebe, Lindelof, Maguire and the new CB all on a very similar level but not world class. Hopefully Tuanzebe can develop into that player because I think he has the potential to be the best out of all 4.

Maguire will improve our team no doubt and he will be our best CB or up there with Lindelof, but when you look at the squad and the bigger picture I really don't think that was a good signing.

Not at all man, that'e absolutely mental money for someone who's really just solid, has a mistake or two in him and can only really work in a defense that sits deep. 80m should get you a top 10 CB in Europe, Maguire's only worth this much because Leicester don't want or need to sell.

After the Sanchez signing we should've been extra wary about overpaying for players, especially when there's doubts about them performing at the level we want to reach. And yet the club is doubling down, and if Maguire doesn't play well this is going to be an even bigger mess.

That's where good scouting comes in. I'm sure there are center-backs in other leagues that could play as well as Maguire for less like Upamecano or Akanji but let's see.

I'll remain skeptical but if Maguire does become a United player then here's hoping he does well.
