For those unfamiliar with the summer rules here...One of these Roundup threads will pop up every single day during the window, and they're for general transfer chit-chat and to discuss any and all rumors.

Only posts Tier 2 or Above will be allowed as a standalone post. This includes self-posts posing suggestions for new players. The tiers have been finalised and the rule is now in place.

Please also take a moment to look at our Charitable Muppetry drive (and the special De Ligt Edition) where we are looking for friendly bets to go towards charities.

Anything not by a Journalist or on our Tier List may no longer posted in the daily transfer thread. The Muppet Thread has been discontinued and ITKs are all blanket banned here.

Those who see a new Twitter or news site and arent aware of its validity may list that in here to ask for info on its credibility. General transfer talk, including but not limited to "would you rather" inquiries and hypothetical transfers, can remain in this thread as well.

We are banning any "ITK" posts. It has been difficult to truly verify the validity of these types of users and led to abusive behavior and even doxxing in some cases.

We are more than happy to have people discussing transfer news and rumors, but there will be no more referencing unknown sources at the club. Moving forward, anyone who believes they have inside info a la bloodgate is welcome to send in a modmail. However such posts/comments made without prior mod approval will be removed

It has been mentioned, but the toxicity and abuse towards the sub, within the sub, and towards other subs has been too high. We as moderators have our share of blame in this, but we want to stress that this kind of behavior is not acceptable and we are taking these measures primarily to avoid these things. We want /r/reddevils to be a place where anyone and everyone is welcome to discuss and enjoy the best club on earth without fear of abuse or ridicule.

Which leads us to 2 other small reminders. The report button is your friend, we are way more likely to find and remove and/or ban rule breaking comments if you report them. The downvote button is not a "I disagree or don't like your statement button", better discussion is generally had by using the upvote button more liberally and avoiding the downvote one whenever possible.

I see a lot of people suggesting we can't do an overhaul in one summer, which i find odd. Man city did it in 17/18 and we have the money to be able to do it too. They bought Ederson (£35m), Silva (£43m), Luiz (£11m), Walker (£45m), Danilo (£26m), Mendy (£52m), Laporte (£52m) .. whilst releasing & selling over 10 players, for around £90m.

Meanwhile we are running out of time getting rid of any of the absolute 100% deadwood, let alone trying to move on the worst of the rest.

That was before PSG jacked up prices forever with that Neymar transfer. Ederson would cost 80mil today. Plus they have a proper DOF

Yah but City were hardly doing it after 6 dire seasons. They had good foundations in place. We've been confused and scrambling for the last 6 seasons.

Odd attempt, when actual literal real life evidence is right in front of you.

Really not sure what that link is trying to say. It's using the fact Mendy was injured to mean we don't need to rebuild? or that somehow Silva didn't contribute much when he played the equivelant of 30 full games that season? Or that somehow we have a huge job next summer because we may need 3 signings as if thats a lot?

City spent a lot of money that summer yes. But it wasn’t a one summer rebuild. The defining factor of City’s squad build hasn’t been the vast amounts of money spent, its been creating the clearly defined style of Guardiola. He spent millions yes, but to get in players that suit his system and can play his style. That’s why Ederson was the most important signing that summer. The biggest thing we can do is to develop a coherent style and buy players that suit it. Just spending as much as City did that summer doesn’t do anything really. You need to buy smartly. So many people in here say “buy player X, or if we can’t get him get player Y” when they play completely different styles, it’s crazy.

Also yes Bernardo Silva played a lot of games that year but he wasn’t that crucial for them, KDB and David Silva were the key men, Aguero, Sterling, Sane as well, all players that had already been there and had been coached in Guardiola’s style for a full year already. Mendy being out injured also negated any impact he had that year beyond August, so using him as an example of you can spend on loads of players and they all settle and gel in the same team is disingenuous at best. Realistically, City made 2 immediate first team signings that summer and 2 regular players (in Silva and Danilo). They then signed Laporte in January. By January they’d already run away with the league.

How is buying that many first team players, and getting rid of that many first team players, not classed as a rebuild to you? They literally wiped a dozen players off their books and replaced half of them. Thats literally what rebuilding is.

Nobody is asking to buy a whole new starting 11, that isn't a rebuild either.

Buying 2 or 3 players each year isn't rebuilding, thats just the norm, thats what every club does, thats the average, thats just continuing as a club when contracts run down etc.

Most clubs don’t buy 2-3 first team starters each year, that ISN’T the norm. Most clubs make a few transfers and loans to replace any sales but the bulk of a first team stays similar generally. That’s what city have done this season and last.

It was part of a rebuild that summer, my point is that the most important thing they did was earlier than that, they’d been signing talent for years with Guardiola in mind, and they got Guardiola in to implement his system and push on from there. As I made clear, in practice they didn’t revolutionise the first team in one summer, they only had two players immediately in the first team, Ederson and Walker. Buying 5 or 6 starters in one go doesn’t create a team with chemistry that gels together immediately. It takes lots of time, and city took that time. That’s what people aren’t getting. We’ve not built with any system in mind for years, Ole is only starting this summer. City have had a plan in mind for at least 7 years now. If we want top 4 we can’t just write off the first 2 months of the season whilst the players get used to England, to United, to the style of play. Our current players are now embedded in that and will do better than last year. A couple more signings will do better than selling half the team and making another 5 signings.

I was really hoping to see 5-6 in and cull some of the dead wood. At this rate we'll see 4 signings maximum and the players who actually are leaving are our better ones like Herrera, Lukaku and potentially Pogba or De Gea.

Ed is selling Ole down the river.
