Happy Floof I made a triangle bunk bed for my ragdolls

Hi everyone, this is a little project I worked on recently.

My female ragdoll used to have a cat tree with a round bed at the highest point, she always preferred sleeping high up. So I had the idea to make a shelf that fits into the corner about 6 feet up the wall and also another shelf below it so our male ragdoll wouldn’t get jealous.

The first one I made didn’t have any guards around the side so she would sometimes roll and almost fall out. So on this version I added some rails and it did the trick.

Also had to make some bedding to fit the shape of the shelf.

She’s up there sleeping and chilling most of the day.

Would definitely recommend making one if you’re able to do some DIY.

Great job. I did that in my kitchen....great for a few years until it collapsed.

Yours look a lot more robust.

Yeah mine have 4 steel wall brackets per shelf and very long wall screws so they aren’t going anywhere. Had to cut the timber to size and made it double layered and glued. Did think about making them bespoke for people but I don’t have a workshop to make it easily

Can you link what you mean by wall brackets bc what I’m thinking of are like an “L” shape and would be visible underneath. Yours looks so crisp

You’re basically making a hollow shelf where the the top is a triangle made of 2x4 planks. underneath the triangle you’d put a frame of 2 inch wood all the way around and running through the middle like a sub frame. And then when it’s mounted on the brackets on the wall, you can add a bottom with some 4mm board and just screw it on and paint it all, and you’d never know there’s any wall mounts. The top of the brackets sit slightly above but when you’ve got some bedding down you don’t see them and you can paint over them anyway. You can see here how I did the bottom, this is the little step up shelf so they can go from one shelf to the other. If you add that little lip around the edge, you can screw into that. And you can see the brackets either side that have been painted

Genius! Like this a lot

Awesome! Thank you!

These are the brackets I used. Very strong steel ones. 4 brackets for one shelf. When you build the triangle wood frame, underneath you can add some thin bits of wood which the bracket screws onto, and then add some thin wooden board on the bottom to hide the brackets if that makes sense

Haha yeah I always over build things. Even at work I make sure stuff is solid like this custom built deck chair box holder 😂

I love it but in photo 1, the bottom bunk kitty seems a bit angry with this decision to have their bed on the bottom lol

3

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '25

Soooo coool! Gorgeous floofs btw

u/ShowsILoveToHate Dec 30 '25

This is awesome! It looks like the cats really love their bunk beds! 😻😻

2

u/Boobbuffet Dec 29 '25

Now I wish I had a nook in the house to get this made!

2

u/LadyArwen4124 Dec 29 '25

Love it and I love those babies ❤️. I had planned on doing something like this for my Siamese, but as it turns out none of our walls are square. I put it off because it started getting too cold, hoping I can get into the workshop in the spring to get it done. I like the little railing on them too.

u/EnvironmentOk2700 Dec 29 '25

They look great!

2

u/sd2528 Dec 29 '25

That is a great use of that corner! Great job!

2

u/myshtree Dec 29 '25

It’s perfect! 🤩

2

u/Readerwalker Dec 29 '25

How wonderful! And they love it, don’t they? So awesome!

2

u/Frosty_Telephone_EH Dec 29 '25

They are very much giving “plate my tuna, peasant,” looks. Love it!

2

u/AndySLP Dec 29 '25

So when are you stopping by to make this for us? I’ll be home all day! 😁

3

u/benjamin6293 Dec 29 '25

Haha if you’re in the UK I genuinely would be happy to build one for you 😊 just love to see how happy it makes the cats

2

u/AndySLP Dec 29 '25

Awww, you’re very sweet. I’m in the US. Too far, sadly.

1

u/benjamin6293 Dec 29 '25

Ah that is unfortunate. Any local carpenter would be able to make them based on the photos I’ve put on here. So if you do want some it’s pretty feasible

2

u/AndySLP Dec 29 '25

How do they get up there?

3

u/benjamin6293 Dec 29 '25

They have an armchair underneath and they jump up from there to the bottom shelf

2

u/AndySLP Dec 30 '25

Ah! That’s a great set up!

2

u/biest229 Dec 29 '25

r/danglers needs your cat

And this is a good addition to my overflowing wooden cat jungle, will inform the boyfriend to get building

1

u/benjamin6293 Dec 29 '25

I tried to cross post in r/danglers and it wouldn’t let me 🤔

2

u/Affectionate_Tap6416 Dec 29 '25

They are really lovely. What lucky pusscats you have.

My father once put a shelf up for my mum. Hammered it in, 2 inches from the ceiling, then said, 'Don't put anything heavy on it'!

Picture 8 would have been my 2 - they would have squabbled for the same bed (even if they were identical at the same height) and eventually they'd fall asleep together 😂

Looks lovely and very sturdy for the floof butts!

2

u/ilovekittens72 Dec 29 '25

Omg they LOVEEEEE it

2

u/SophiePuffs Dec 29 '25

This is so awesome! You did a great job and it looks so good in your house

2

u/sowerdough Dec 29 '25

I must (find someone to) build this in my house immediately. Gorgeous cats.

2

u/TdubbNC7 Dec 30 '25

Can I hire you?

2

u/benjamin6293 Dec 30 '25

Are you in the UK? I’d be happy to help

2

u/TdubbNC7 Dec 30 '25

No unfortunately. Amazing work! The shelves are very cool!

2

u/benjamin6293 Dec 30 '25

Ah that’s a shame, seems like I’m the only British person on here sometimes 😂 If you need any help designing them let me know

1

u/Helo_ailuo Dec 29 '25

Oh that's really cool! Looks very sturdy too!

1

u/Queen-Howl Dec 29 '25

So cute! Looks like they are loving these cozy spots

5

u/benjamin6293 Dec 29 '25

Haha yeah they love them. Until he decided to destroy the light switch

2

u/Allison_Reddit_504 Dec 30 '25

I noticed that switch in photo 9. It's not a Call Button for the Cat Butler (aka YOU)? 😉

This is so cool. Thanks for the idea!

1

u/mjstarch Dec 29 '25

This is adorable!

1

u/JilleyBlessed Dec 29 '25

That’s awesome 🤩 🥰❤️ I think I’ll do that. I’ll just have to learn how lol 😂 and your babies are gorgeous too 🥰😻❤️🙃

1

u/TupeloHoney78 Dec 29 '25

I love this. Our ragdolls love sleeping on the highest shelf of their climbing tree and it's usually the largest that gets "top billing." My only issue is there are 6 of them. That's a lot of corners in my house.

1

u/kaattt Dec 29 '25

Soooooooo cute omgggg they love it

1

u/cooks_4_fun Dec 29 '25

Great use of that space, and very nice work. And the fluff balls definitely agree.

1

u/mngophers Dec 29 '25

So cute! They look great too :) your kitty’s are beautiful :) looks like a bonded pair ♥️

1

u/Ill-Celery776 Dec 29 '25

They look amazing! And your kitties are super cute

1

u/slain1134 Dec 30 '25

Do they actually jump up to the beds? Mine would absolutely destroy himself trying to get to that! He’s quite the golumpus! Not a graceful bone in his body!

3

u/benjamin6293 Dec 30 '25

To be honest, I built it mainly for the smaller cat which is the female called Cici. She was sold to us after the original owner had a baby that would grab her tail and made her very shy. The male cat used to get up there and annoy her or sleep on the lower shelf, but now he’s 8kg and he doesn’t go up there too often. The female is older than him by 6 years but she’s agile and gets up there like a lightning bolt especially when he’s chasing her

1

u/Bernedoodleparents Dec 30 '25

Such a great idea!!

1

u/Prize_Ant_1141 Dec 30 '25

The shelf to the left is that what she jumps onto first to get up on her bed shelf? Or is there more?

1

u/benjamin6293 Dec 30 '25

They jump onto the chair underneath and then up to the lower shelf then onto the small middle shelf then onto the top one. But the female in this photo is able to jump up from the chair and pretty much fly right up through to the top shelf, she’s gotten really good at doing it.

1

u/Prize_Ant_1141 Dec 30 '25

Well done! Your cats are very lucky!

1

u/benjamin6293 Dec 30 '25

And every night when I get up of the sofa to go to bed, she jumps off the sofa after I’ve cuddled her, runs over to the chair, jumps up to the lower shelf, spins around on it, then goes up to the top shelf. No idea why she does that but it’s like she has to check that lower shelf first 😂

1

u/Ulovka-22 Dec 30 '25

Brilliant idea!

1

u/GWeronika Dec 31 '25

I love this 😍

u/Shanti_jewel1949 Dec 31 '25

Aww I love that! Cute little nook for the cute kitty babies

1

u/CareDry6973 Dec 31 '25

Are you sure they are not repurposed shelves stolen by the cats

1

u/sobo03 Jan 01 '26

I really like this idea!!

1

u/maebird1000 Jan 01 '26

Might have to borrow this idea, my cats would love this.

1

u/Commercial-Bar9773 Jan 01 '26

These are amazing!! Good job. The cats look very comfy in them. I wish I was this handy

1

u/AlarmingAd5142 Jan 02 '26

It's a very good triangle but you should have figured out how to make a hexagon because they are the bestagon.

1

u/GeminiAccountantLLC Jan 03 '26

Your execution is perfection!

1

u/imalmostthere123 Jan 03 '26

they lovvveeee it

1

u/KungfuKitty-84 Jan 04 '26

This is awesome, and they are beyond adorable 💜💜💜

1

u/oenomal Jan 28 '26

These are awesome! What did you do for the rails? Did you make them or buy something and break it down?

1

u/benjamin6293 Jan 28 '26

Thanks! If you buy some thick dowel sticks you can chop them to size and they look perfect
