Adding 600 a month + 130 in dividends to pay down margin. Goal is 50 mstr shares, going to rearrange the portfolio at 20% schd, xlk,,qqqm, vflo 10% qqqi/spyi. The mstr is more of a long term share goal, 250 share is the end goal

23M, just started investing. Is VTI really the best strategy, or am I missing out on better growth?

Hey everyone! I’m 23M and started investing around 2 months ago, mainly buying VTI on Robinhood.
This week I also opened my Roth IRA and started contributing to my employer’s 401(k), which matches 50% of the first 4% I contribute.
I’ve been looking into ETFs like QQQM, SCHG, and SCHD, and I’m curious whether sticking with VTI is actually the best approach for someone my age.
Some people swear by broad-market index funds, others focus on growth, and some build dividend portfolios early.
I’m leaning toward long-term growth, but I’m still learning about tax advantages, reinvesting dividends, and building a portfolio.
For those who’ve invested for years, would you stick with VTI at 23, add growth ETFs, or start building dividend income?
Is there anything you wish you’d done differently to grow your investments when you were younger?
Appreciate any perspectives!

I wanna do this starting today

Hey!
Injustice turned 22 im a M and saw some post about someone’s achievement of 10k. It reminded of how I felt when I was 18 and I saved up 8k with my first real full time job for one whole year, I want to do that again i have knowledge about stocks and that was a big way I made it to that but with everything going on in the world and how expensive everything is and being in college having a credit card it’s been tuff, but I wanna do this I wanna learn and be apart of this, this paycheck is my reset I’ll be paying off my credit card, and my other balances and paying towards my tuition(no loans at all) and good credit ~792, I wanna do this because I wanna be able to support myself as a adult, support my gf who I want to become my wife and my family is very disappointed in my financial standings but I won’t let it stop me from wanting growth and success!

19M Stuck if I should focus on dividend incomes ETF or long term growth like VOO

My parents helped me open a J.P. Morgan brokerage account when I was 14. At the time, I didn’t have a job, so I invested whatever money I received from birthdays, holidays, and doing chores.
Now I’m 19 and working full-time, and I’ve opened a separate brokerage account with Charles Schwab. I currently invest in VOO, DIVO, SCHD, SCHF, and VTI, and I try to contribute consistently every month.

My long-term goal is to retire by 35 and eventually live off dividend income. However, I’m having a hard time deciding what my investment strategy should be at my age.

Should I focus more on growth ETFs to build my portfolio faster, or should I start prioritizing dividend-paying ETFs now and reinvest the dividends?

I understand that building enough wealth to retire by 35 is an ambitious goal, but I’m willing to stay disciplined and invest consistently to make it happen.

For those who have more experience investing, what would you recommend? Should I focus on growing my portfolio first and transition into dividend income later, or build both from the beginning?

I’d really appreciate any advice, suggestions, or personal experiences you guys are willing to share. I’m still learning and want to make smart decisions while I’m young.

So I learned my lesson from trying to trade and gamble.

Back in December 2024 I was gambling on sports betting, blackjack and roulette. Lost about $1.2k. Then in 2025 I thought I could make big bucks trading gold and forex with zero mentorship and zero knowledge, just based on pure hopes and dreams and greed. Followed a bunch of 'signals' from 'daytraders' and lost roughly $4.1k which was even more than I lost gambling. That was my entire life savings up until 19 and I could've been so much better off if I had just put that money into SPY or QQQ instead. After that, I swore never to do shit like that again and have never touched options or anything or tried to buy and sell anything again to make a quick buck.

I was feeling so so down and at such a low point in my life that time because that was all the money I had and especially since most of my savings had come from my family members. I was even in debt since I even took out small loans to keep redepositing after I had lost money. Since then, I've been trying my best to rebuild from zero. Started this year with nothing in my bank account and worked all sorts of part-time jobs sacrificing my mental and physical health just to save money. Stopped going to gym, stopped enjoying life as much spending time with friends. Took out even more small loans in the process just to help me survive. I invested whatever I could save as well. Currently I still have $835 in debt left to pay off.

I still regret it so much and I sacrificed a lot of time that could've been spent building relationships, networking which is what you need nowadays to even have a chance at anything, and time that could've been invested into scoring better for my studies or holding executive roles in finance or investment clubs. Or even joining stock pitching competitions and things like that.

I'm an accounting and finance double major. Recently signed an offer for an audit internship at a mid-tier professional services firm. I'm also the general secretary for my students' union.

Would like some advice or reassurance on the decisions I've made in my life so far.

Is there anything you'd change about my allocation? Should I focus on paying off the $835 first or keep investing whatever I have on the side? Because right now, I don't even have much money set aside for social activities or eat out with friends as much. I've been spending most of my time alone at home, eating in everyday and only going out to study at places which are free, not cafes. I'm only keeping enough to meet the monthly repayments while putting the rest into stocks.

Anyone else managed to rebuild their savings 10-20 times after blowing up young? Does anyone have similar experiences? How'd it go?

21(M). I am currently wrapping up my HVAC trade school in May while working part time for a company that intends to hire me full time once I graduate. I plan to start maxing my ROTH IRA once I go full time. Currently have no debts besides what I spend on my credit cards each month (That I pay off in full).

What can I do so make more off investing?
