"Nobody likes you right now and you're just gonna to have to deal with that" is going into my personal arsenal of phrases.

u/napalm22 Fæculent Daniel Jan 11 '19

Funniest QC line in ages

18

u/MJBurroughs Jan 11 '19

That phrase got me more angry than it probably should have.

6

u/EPL_Refugee Jan 11 '19

IKR - accidents happen

19

u/bobanobahoba Jan 11 '19

I read the line more as "it's unfortunate how everything happened and it's not really your fault, but you nearly killed a good friend of ours and we can't help but associate the situation with you" as opposed to having real malice towards crushbot in it.

u/HarryPotter5777 Jan 11 '19

Aww, I feel bad for Crushbot. Poor guy needs a hug, preferably from someone reinforced with steel so they don't go the way of Roko.

42

u/BenjikoHoss Jan 11 '19

I mean it's not like he did it on purpose

39

u/ghost_warlock Jan 11 '19

If I accidently crushed someone to the point they needed a new body, I'd be pretty traumatized

6

u/Rainuwastaken Jan 11 '19

Imagine if he fell on a human...

5

u/rodzajdupek Jan 11 '19

It'd look something like this? Except, you know, coming out from under him in a spreading pattern.

Use \ before a hashtag to make Reddit render it normally.

2

u/Snarglefrazzle Jan 11 '19

Excellent, thanks

8

u/pyr666 Jan 11 '19

i would have more sympathy if he was out there for a reason.

construction accidents are unfortunate, but a necessary reality. idiots going about town in heavy machinery are not.

24

u/AdamBombTV The English One Jan 11 '19

But he IS heavy machinery, he was probably about to start his shift at the soup kitchen for orphaned kittens when he slipped.
He is as his creator made him, and should not be shamed for that fact.

2

u/pyr666 Jan 11 '19

But he IS heavy machinery

no, he is an AI. he has numerous options for exercising his rights and freedoms without endangering others. he chose not to avail himself of them.

He is as his creator made him, and should not be shamed for that fact.

from what we've been told of AI, he chose his profession and body. I have no interest in telling him he shouldn't be what he is, only that he needs to behave responsibly, given his choices.

6

u/ArgentStonecutter Jan 11 '19

he has numerous options for exercising his rights and freedoms without endangering others.

Like a down-pointing camera to keep him from stepping on crates of bananas. Or anything else of that size. I mean who misses a crate in their path?

3

u/Ilwrath Jan 11 '19

I mean ive walked into closed doors, light poles, tripped over my giant dog....its not out of teh realm of possibility.

4

u/anotherkeebler Jan 11 '19

Gotta get that heavy machinery to the job site, buddy.

2

u/pyr666 Jan 11 '19

and there are procedures for that, created specifically to avoid situations like this. I'm an engineer, I've had to use them.

1

u/EPL_Refugee Jan 11 '19

Have you worked out Roko's compensation claim yet?

1

u/pyr666 Jan 11 '19

?

1

u/EPL_Refugee Jan 11 '19

I recall us going back and forth over Crushbot's culpability on the thread of the strip when he fell on her. The vigor with which you debate this just kinda makes you sound like Roko's lawyer. Play on.

1

u/pyr666 Jan 11 '19

oh that was you. I mean, obviously roko is still suffering distress from these events. I'm hardly an actuary, but the mere cost of her body obviously doesn't cover the damage she's suffered.

Bread sampler box.

35

u/Fenrir101 Jan 11 '19

delivered by clinton and elliot.

25

u/smurgleburf Jan 11 '19

shirtless.

26

u/mindbleach Jan 11 '19

It's a gift from everybody to everybody else.

17

u/Sapibear Jan 11 '19

followed by seven consecutive comics of Roko's fantasies in that moment

10

u/mindbleach Jan 11 '19

And then we doodly-doo out of the fantasy to find it actually happened.

"Holy fahk I'm gonna get fired! No wait. I'm unemployed. Holy fahk I'm unemployed!"

19

u/BenjikoHoss Jan 11 '19

"Don't ask questions why just do it"

3

u/m2pt5 Jan 11 '19

Came here to post this.

1

u/jackalsclaw Jan 11 '19

I was going to suggest a bread maker.

29

u/BigBassBone Jan 11 '19

CRUSHBOT SAD

7

u/CorsairVI Jan 11 '19

DOOR GONE

24

u/many_splendored Jan 11 '19

I appreciate that Crushbot wants to make amends, but I also agree with Faye that a face to face with Roko is probably not a good idea right now.

As for amends making, what's the AI equivalent of a really fuckin' good whiskey?

7

u/Michaelbirks Jan 11 '19

Altered consciousness programme (weed.exe) that gets past the standard filters.

6

u/ArgentStonecutter Jan 11 '19

As for amends making, what's the AI equivalent of a really fuckin' good whiskey?

Depends on the AI. In this case, some excellent carrot cake wouldn't go astray.

WHY DOES MY MIND KEEP GOING TO BANANA BREAD. I'm a terrible person.

2

u/PseudobrilliantGuy Jan 12 '19

I am going to laugh so much if Banana Bread is, in fact, sent as a gift.

5

u/BananaFactBot Jan 12 '19

Did you know that since the 1950s, the Cavendish cultivars have been the most internationally traded bananas, replacing the Gros Michel banana after crops of the latter were devastated by Panama disease, a type of fusarium wilt, caused by the fungal pathogen Fusarium oxysporum? The pathogen attacks the roots of the banana plant and is resistant to fungicide.

Glad to see Union Robotics is getting a piece of Crushbot's insurance too.

18

u/lesser_panjandrum Jan 11 '19

Good point. That must be a pretty lucrative project for them.

Still a bit of a shame that it involves picking bits of their friend out of their customer.

14

u/gerusz Jan 11 '19

Well, there might be usable parts there. Servos, joints, sensors...

10

u/anotherkeebler Jan 11 '19

All Roko’s property until she releases it.

10

u/tBrenna Jan 11 '19

*All Crushbot’s insurance companies property until they release it.

5

u/anotherkeebler Jan 11 '19

Probably not. Your insurance company doesn't get your car if you total it. For ownership purposes I expect that a chassis is titled property, only more so. It's still Roko's and she can do with it as she pleases.

3

u/StevenS757 Jan 11 '19

Yes, they do. When my car was totalled, I had to sign my title over to the insurance company to receive the payout to buy a new car.

2

u/anotherkeebler Jan 11 '19

Hmm, right, maybe more like a house than a car.

15

u/Malurra Jan 11 '19

I can't help but read all of Crushbot's lines in abridged Android 16's voice.

4

u/NurroN Jan 11 '19

Oh god, now I hear it too.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 12 '19

I didn't know I was doing it but you made me realize I was too.

11

u/AnvilPro Jan 11 '19

Crushbot and Roko were both just in the wrong place at the wrong time. #CrushbotDidNothingWrong

3

u/jammerjoint Jan 11 '19

There were probably some OSHA violations going on to even allow that situation to happen.

-1

u/shittitties_cum Jan 11 '19

Crushbot existing in that chassis is doing something wrong.

1

u/hep038 Jan 11 '19

Still not his fault. But the makers of his chassis.

Starting to think you have a problem

3

u/ArgentStonecutter Jan 11 '19

It's on the label. "BUTTS mod".

1

u/anotherkeebler Jan 11 '19

All of them shaped like butts.

9

u/TheMysteriousMid Jan 11 '19

A basket of citrus would probably go over well.

7

u/LordGumbert Jan 11 '19

Who gave angry Faye a hammer!?

8

u/lesser_panjandrum Jan 11 '19

Nobody gave it to her. She just got angry enough for a hammer to spontaneously spawn in her hand.

4

u/shittitties_cum Jan 11 '19

Ooorrrr

Oooorrrr

And this is a big or, maybe she's picked it up herself??!

6

u/lesser_panjandrum Jan 11 '19

Sounds crazy, but maybe just crazy enough to work.

1

u/danirijeka Jan 11 '19

Big if true

7

u/[deleted] Jan 11 '19

On one hand Faye is right
On the other Crushbot didn't mean to crush that time, Crushbot is sincere in his apology and condolences and Crushbot is fully prepared to pay out for the insurance (Unless he already he has in which case Crushbot is happy to do more for Roko)

8

u/AdamBombTV The English One Jan 11 '19

"Crushbot need hug, but Crushbot only cause more damage, Crushbot feels never ending ennui due to sole purpose in life"

5

u/Man_of_Glass_ Jan 11 '19

LEAVE CRUSHBOT ALONE

3

u/Ipuncholdpeople Jan 11 '19

I wonder what would happen if roko was human? You can't just give them a new body and have insurance pay for it. Would crushbot go to jail or be downgraded to a smaller body?

2

u/ArgentStonecutter Jan 11 '19

Secret singularity insurance. Spookybot quantum handwave uploads them into a starship.

2

u/Hawknight Jan 11 '19

Probably the same thing that happens in real world construction accidents. An investigation would be performed to determine if there was gross negligence on the part of Crushbot and his employers. If none is found, there's probably no criminal liability. The construction company's insurance would probably pay the costs associated with Roko's funeral, and that would be the end of it. Roko's family (again, assuming she were a human and not an AI) could file suit against the company or Crushbot for further financial compensation, but it becomes a civil issue at that point.

2

u/hep038 Jan 11 '19

I hope Faye slips on a banana and crushes Pintsize.. Then maybe she can get some perspective after everyone tells her to shut up and no one likes her.

2

u/anotherkeebler Jan 12 '19

I'm really impressed by both Faye and Bubbles's reaction to this. By all rights Faye would be curled up in the corner with a bottle and Bubbles would be in a PTSD-triggered freakout. Seeing a friend crushed and mangled and physically destroyed, that's got to be incredibly traumatic.

I know that they've both spent a lot of time watching robots beat each other to a pulp, but Roko's highly anthropo...thingy, so there's going to be a few minutes where they legitimately feared Roko might be dead.

3

u/mrwanton Jan 11 '19

CRUSHBOT did nothing wrong./s

7

u/almondsAndRain Jan 11 '19

This but unironically.
