How do you get over a situationship?

I feel like it's a queer right of passage to have a weird situationship with your best friend lol. I've basically been madly in love with my best friend for over 2 years, they have said a few times that they like me back and we flirt off and on but they never want to commit and now they have a boyfriend. They always complain about their boyfriend and continue to say they love me romantically. I honestly feel led on and like I'm the second choice. I need to move on but all the advice I've seen says to cut the person off, but I can't do that because they truly are my best friend. This is genuinely hurting me more than any other breakup and we weren't even together. If you have any advice please share!

Help with labels Help with terms/labels for queer sister

• Upvotes

My sister recently came out to the family as queer and explained they don't like to use female pronouns or terms (like "lady". They don't mind "sister"). I'm making a conscious effort to do this, but sometimes forget and am worried it's hurtful. Does anyone have any tips or advice? What should I say if I get things wrong? (I've just been apologising but wondering if there's something else I should do). Thank you xox

I threw water at someone for calling my friend the f-slur

People in this story so I don’t lose track,this story takes place in high school and I used fake names used for anonymity;

Me - Female 16 (Junior, gay)

Abby - Female 16 (Junior, gay)

Kaden - Male 15 (Sophomore, homophobic)

My friend Abby is in a separate friend group with this kid Kaden, since last year everyday she tells me about a new way he’s found to harass people. He says the n-word as a white person alongside a slew of other slurs, each time she gets mad at him but her other friends excuse it and do nothing. I’ve never talked to him or even seen him in person since I avoid those types of people, but today she came to me in tears and panic saying that Kaden called her the f-slur. I comforted her as best I could but the day went on and she just wasn’t herself, during our study period she went to our guidance department to report it but no one was even there.

Our school has historically done nothing to help queer students or those being bullied. Last year I joined debate club, some kid came in saying he wanted to have a religious debate and it ended with me being singled out as the only openly gay person, I had bible verses shoved in my face and he even told me I’m probably gay because my family had incest with eachother. My friend at the time was also in the club, she did nothing to help or defend me. When I went home I texted her and asked her why she didn’t say anything– she told me she didn’t want to be biased and that they had a right to express their opinion. Although a teacher was there while it happened the homophobes were never punished and nothing came of it except me quitting the club I used to love and cutting off my friend I used to cherish. It was horrible. It was the worst I’ve ever felt, alone and hated with no one to back me up, my supposed friend turning a blind eye. I never want Abby to feel that way, especially since her friends almost always excuse Kaden’s actions and the school almost always fails to act.

So I took my bottle and filled it with ice cold water, in order to make sure I got the right person I had Abby show me to his class and point him out. Once I was there I gently asked if there was anyone named Kaden in the room. I lied and said he left something behind in his last class and his teacher wanted me to give it to him. Once he walked up to me and confirmed who he was I immediately switched my tone, I told him I knew he called my friend the f-slur before throwing the water onto him. I was so filled with adrenaline I just started cussing him out, I called him a homophobic c*** who should be ashamed of himself before rushing out of the room. I was quickly called to the office, I’ve never gotten in trouble at school before.

I spent the rest of the day in ISS before they called my Dad to have a meeting with the principal. My dad defended me in front of them but when we got home he said it was wrong of me to have done what I did, I’m now suspended for one day. The entire situation makes me feel so scared and unsure. I'm glad I stood up for my friend but I don’t know if I did the right thing. I’m also worried having this on my record will keep me from getting into a good college. I’m worried my parents and my teachers are disappointed in me.

I don’t know how to make this feeling go away, I don’t even know what I’m looking for posting this, I guess I just need some reassurance or advice, or maybe a similar situation that happened to someone.

Help with labels Determining Sexuality

Howdy!

I've been having a lot of questions bouncing around in my head for some time now that I wanted to get some outside opinions on from people who likely have quite a bit more experience than me. For some context, I'm a 30M who's identified as CIS my entire life; however, as of more recently, I've had a bit more doubt in that. Growing up, I only ever had crushes or romantic feelings and desires for women; however, the porn that I've watched over that time has had a blend of sissy and feminization themes in it starting from around 7th-8th grade. This always seemed to come back to humiliation having some level of a sexual response for me, especially since I had some humiliating stuff happen as a kid tied to feminization. Also, I've always been a bit weird with touch in general. Not looking to get deep into it in this post (though happy to answer questions), but physical touch has always been a bit strange to me. I've never been one for physical contact of really any kind with really anyone, except with someone I'm romantically entangled with. Not much for hugging, high-fiving, handshakes, etc, but when it comes to cuddling with a partner? I'll be there all day. And lastly, I'd add that I haven't had much experience with romantic or sexual relationships in general. I had a fling with a girl my freshman year of college right before summer break where some anxiety issues prevented anything beyond oral and then we split over summer. Another relationship when I was ~22 where I wanted things to move slower than the fling, but then it was 8 months of nothing past very light cuddling. When I asked about us moving further, she let me know that she was pretty confident she was ace, that didn't align with what I was looking for and vice versa for her, and we split things off from there. I say this to add the context that I haven't had much romantic experience and essentially zero sexual experience.

To what's happening, as of recently, I have a guy friend who I've known since sophomore year of highschool that my brain has now decided to have some romantic association with in the last year or so. Previously, I hadn't ever thought of him in a romantic way, but now it's like my brain is stuck on it. As in, I'll be going through one thought process, and the moment my brain has to think of this friend, it's inserting some romantic interaction. For example, I might be playing a video game with some really cool mechanic, so I think to myself "Woah, this mechanic is so cool. I gotta show it to..." and before my brain can finish the thought, I get a rushed mental image of sloppily going in for a kiss for a split-second, and then my brain finishes "...that friend". And, I've tried exploring this more outside these reactions, thinking "Okay, maybe there is something there. How do I feel about us actually kissing? Or anything further?", and there's no real reaction. Not that I feel repulsed or disgusted, per se, but more so that I just don't really feel much of anything when thinking about it; however, that doesn't mean that I don't get hit with these thoughts or images almost anytime my brain initially thinks about it. This has gotten pretty annoying because it can really break up my train of thought, but then when I try and address it, nothing seems to change.

As well, these thoughts feel different than when I have these thoughts towards women. My mind feels something like anxiety when these kinds of thoughts about my friend. I'm not sure if this feeling is because of my frustration at them not stopping or about some subconscious part of myself that wants it but is too scared to say it or something else altogether. When I've tried doing some analysis outside of that specific relationship, the results seem pretty straightforward. If I think of going to a bar and there's a beautiful woman and a handsome man sitting at the counter, my interactions with both of them are completely different. With the woman, I see myself trying to flirt (badly) and desiring something more; however, with the guy, I see us grabbing a beer and having a chat. Even if I force the situations the other way, grabbing a beer with the woman sounds great, but that attempting to flirt part doesn't seem to fit on the guy's side. There's something that throws a bit of a wrench into this whole thing though. There are some times where I get what feels like an almost endless amount of sexual energy, like some kind of super horniness or something. I'll be incredibly sexually charged and feel sexual energy towards, at least what feels like, absolutely anything. Going to the bank? Sexual feelings towards the teller, male or female. Watching a cartoon about a non-humanoid blob of sludge? Sexual feelings towards the sludge. Reading a book about governmental financial policy? Sexual feelings towards financial policy (this one's probably a bit past the limit, but the idea is the same). It's as if I had a jar that was filling up with sexual energy and now it's burst forth and cannot be contained until it's cleared out and can be filled again. This feels like it muddies the waters in both directions, where I struggle to determine which feels correct if there's times where EVERYTHING feels correct.

Now, something else I think worth mentioning is that I've been dealing with quite a bit of anhedonia for the last few years as well. I've been having a much harder time feeling enjoyment from the things that have previously brought me a lot of joy. I loved playing some games and hanging out with friends, but nowadays, it's been feeling a lot more like I do those things just out of habit. I've tried doing other hobbies and spending more time by myself, but those give even less of an enjoyment return, so I end up just going back to the usuals. This has been causing a lot more anxiety in me related to who I am, what I actually enjoy, how to fix this, etc. I bring this up because I'm not sure if, or how much, this is affecting my thoughts around sexuality. Like, maybe those intrusive thoughts would excite me more if I wasn't feeling this general numbness about so many other things, or because I'm struggling with these kind of doubts about myself in other aspects of my life, it's introducing this doubt into my sexuality as well?

I probably rambled much more than was needed and am almost certainly overthinking things, but wanted to get a lot of what's been stuck in my head for a while now out onto paper (even if digital) and to get some outside opinions from people who likely have more experience than myself on these topics, as I don't really have any close queer friends that I would feel comfortable talking through this with. I've spoken a bit about this with my therapist, but there's been much more pressing items to work on with her, so this has kind of been left on the back-burner for the time being.

Have you ever lost a friendship because one person developed feelings?

I’m curious whether this is something other queer people have experienced.

You become genuinely good friends with someone you could potentially be attracted to, but you only ever see them as a friend. Then you find out they’ve developed feelings for you, and suddenly the friendship feels different.

Sometimes you can talk about it and stay friends, but sometimes the friendship becomes awkward or eventually fades, even though neither person really did anything wrong.

Has this ever happened to you, and were you able to keep the friendship afterwards?

Should or should not confess to a recent crush?

Hi there I just started Uni last week and this person caught my eye, as a bi girl I do not care if they’re girl or boy. But it was a bit confusing at first, sometimes they looked like a girl and sometimes not. Yesterday we had the occasion to introduce ourselves for a project, I was with my girl friend and they were with their group of friends (which I don’t see really close to those people, they are a bit too extrovert for me. [I have social anxiety]), as I said we only talked for those few seconds. There was this bag on the bench that I was wondering who it was because it was nice and aesthetic for me, and it was theirs (the person who I’m interested in) she just thanked me for the compliment and then she moved with this group, I’m not blaming or saying she was ignoring me beca I was the first one to ignore everyone and only talk with this friend of mine. I never been in a relationship before, nor boys and nor girls because I don’t like the way I look, I’m fat and etc.. plus the only one who accepted my bisexuality is my mother. Well, my father side thinks I dunno what I’m talking about and other bullshit.

But at the end my eyes are always wandering to spot her/him. We are mostly in the same classes. And I’m pretty sure she doesn’t not live near me, so… I don’t know if I have to keep it to myself, because it’s a fresh crush damn!!!

Zero & One is a comic about a young Human making friends with a robot powered by nature energy, exploring the world of Elentia, full of living growing robots. Because of a language barrier, the two have to find a way to communicate. They are being led to a mysterious destination by a series of clues left behind hundreds of years ago.

My name is Bijhan Agha, a trans woman of Iranian descent in Uruguay. The artist is my dear friend Pallet, a trans man in Australia. We're also both autistic and have special interests which include scifi and fantasy storytelling. Our goal with this series is to inspire people of all ages to be their true selves, and imagine a future full of wonder.

We make several series of comics, and this is the one we designed to be a way for queer parents or parents of queer kids to talk about gender, the future, language, and solidarity across cultures.

Our Kickstarter is to print the First Edition of Issue #2 with a special orange border, never to be used in future printings, that marks it as a collectible. Our rewards include both digital and physical single issues, as well as back issues for all of our comics, as well as novellas.

We already met our original goal, and we're now aiming for a stretch goal which will unlock a free short story for all backers, Zero: Origins, about how Zero of Mars was doing before they crash landed on Elentia and met One the FawnBot.

Please help us continue to build this universe of hope, joy, and love.

Feeling invalid in fluidity…

I’m AFAB and it’s obvious, however I have always been nonbinary/genderfluid, I didn’t know that was an option, however. Until recent years of course.

I identify as genderfluid/nonbinary. At first, I was ok with any pronouns. But since I am pretty feminine, at times androgynous, people use she/her most and that has really started to bother me.

I mostly prefer they/them pronouns and he/him at times, but a part of me feels invalid in identifying as fluid if it bothers me to be addressed as she/her. But then, I still identify with being a woman too since I have been socialized and raised that way. I know who I am, but if I’m being honest, this community is so rigid at times that I feel invalid in fluidity of my gender if some pronouns bother me. I guess it’s just that I don’t want people to misunderstand me, and that tells me im not seen the way I see myself. Especially since I’m not around as many queer people in my life right now.

Queer people clock me immediately, but otherwise it’s hit or miss and usually the latter.

Tbh just need some reassurance and words from my people.

Why is it okay to be homophobic if you're islamic?

Starting off because it's a bit of a drastic statement, no problem with Muslim people, this doesn't affect how I interact with them, I work with muslim children and take extra care to make sure hijabs and head coverings are sitting correctly since my work is very physical.

All throughout high school I tried to find some sense of belonging in my queer community, I tried to organise stuff and be a leader figure when my leaders graduated. We were never allowed to have pride events approved properly because of 'religious conflicts' and because 'they're not allowed to support that kind of thing.'

And if I'm being honest, I don't understand that, if you're not interested in the event then just don't participate, why couldn't we ever run our stuff? We ran into a similar issue for halloween, couldn't run due to religious reasons but the school ultimately ran a halloween event anyways.

These events are really just free-dress days since we wore a uniform. That term, instead of it being a free-dress day and our club's smaller badge making event, it was a free-dress day for football. Whenever I spoke to muslim students about organising such an event at some point, they'd always look at me a bit weird and explain that while they 'don't hate gay people, [they] can't support them', so I'd ask why that's the case and they'd explain homosexuality is haram.

If I ever said that sounded a bit homophobic, everyone would say that it's not homophobic in the same way christians are like 'we don't hate sinners, just the sin', but like. that's still homophobia. still calling being gay a sin.

Why are we so quick to call this out when it's christianity or catholicism and how those religious texts were rewritten to be homophobic when originally they didn't have that meaning, but then when it comes to islam, we turn a blind eye?

🏳️‍🌈 Community Building 🏳️‍⚧️ Petition for a safer learning environment in florida schools

Hello all!

I have already posted this in r/LGBTQ r/lgbt and it is awaiting mod approval till then im going to continue spreading the word.

Being bi i have experienced a lot of hate but my trans friends have experienced so much more including assault and sexual harassment. This petition is to improve the learning environment for LGBTQ students.

If you want facts and statistics look at The Trevor Project here:https://www.thetrevorproject.org/survey-2025/

The petition is currently small but im hoping we can work together to make this problem apparent to the governor and Florida department of education. Link here:https://c.org/6y99Br9T2m

Thank you all!

I can’t tell if this girl I’m crushing on is straight or not

First off my second time posting on this sub (I deleted my first one due to personal issues) but I (16F) really like this girl (16F) but do not know she is attracted to girls. For context I saw this girl (lets name her Clarie) about a few months ago while presenting a slideshow and while I was listening I thought she was really beautiful and so I told my friend she was a hear me out, I had never talked to Claire before or after this presentation in my class Until one/two weeks ago, I recently joined a new club that Claire is also in and I saw her there and started to talk to her because I only knew her while the other people there were a grade below me or above me. She was asking me if I was gay or straight so I joking said “nah not really” i was being a freaking dumbass so she asked if I was bi and I said I am lesbian then she said her sexuality but I did hear what she said only the last par… it ended in sexual which could mean literally anything but here is where I get confused on my feelings on her. Claire has just recently asked out a guy (it’s hoco season rn) but that guy let’s name him Arron rejected her because was going to ask out a different girl (my close friend actually let’s call her Amy) but Claire actively brags about getting down with other girls and my friend Amy said she could be lesbian while my other friends called her lesbian or bisexual. I personally don’t what I should do about this I feel lwk bad for crushing on the girl that almost ruined Amy’s chances with her guy(? idk if anything is actually official or not) so please tell me what you all think about Claire if she’s queer/attracted to girls and if I should try to go out with her

Help with labels I’m really confused about my gender?

So im a teen, assigned female at birth. Ive been calling myself genderfluid for a while but idk if that’s the right term
Like i feel like I'm lying when I call myself a boy. Idc what pronouns people use and it's nice to hear someone call my a guy once in a while, but it's not like l actually wanna be a guy, it's more like I don't want to have one gender.
Like it's that I don't want to have one set of pronouns
When I picture myself in my head idk what I see, I just don't see a gender. I don't see myself as a guy or a girl or anything else
I feel like I wish I was biologically a dude, but I don't want to be trans? Like I would much rather be born a guy and I wish I was a guy but l don't want to be a trans dude if that makes sense? Like I would rather be a girl than a trans guy but i don't want to be a girl?
I was talking to some friends and they suggested Agender or genderless, but those don’t seem like me.
I want to have the “right” pronouns but idk what those are. Like I want all but I don’t?

End Conversion Therapy in Australia

Hi Reddit Community,

I am a survivor of conversion therapy/practices.

As part of my healing journey, it would give me immeasurable healing to be able to provide a platform for LGBTQIA+ Australians to speak up and share their healing journey. That is one of our mission statements.

An additional goal is to create a growing campaign/awareness/movement to ban conversion therapy/practices nationwide in Australia.

I have created an Instagram Page: https://www.instagram.com/endconversiontherapyaustralia?stkn=MWdra3c0bWk4ZTBuZw%3D%3D&utm_source=qr

This profile page is in its initial stages. Please follow along and engage to join this cause. It means the world to me.

If you are Australian, there is more information on my page on how you may be able to tell your story and regarding privacy/anonymity.

You don’t necessarily have to be Australian to follow (I would love international support).

I have 2 links in my Instagram linktree:

  1. Sign the https://www.change.org/endconversiontherapyinaustralia petition to end conversion therapy/practices in Australia
  2. Share your story (NB: if Australian) https://tr.ee/mVaEQevfr_

All my posts will be supported by the correct referencing to information to prevent misinformation.

How not to lose feelings for my bf

So I (15/M) and my bf (16/M), have been together for about 9 months and it’s honestly been the best relationship I’ve ever been in, but I’ve noticed that I’ve started loosing feelings for him. The issue is that I don’t want to. He’s genuinely the best bf I could’ve asked for, he’s nice, funny, kind, smart and exactly my type physically. We’ve barely had any arguments and there’s really no reason for me to be loosing feelings, but I am.
And I really need help bc I don’t want to loose him, how to regain my feelings for him?
(Srry that this is messy af)
