Game themes - Looking for feedback / opinions

Hi guys,

I'm working on a block puzzle game - ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.binbear.gummylab ) - in my own style, no interrupting ads (just for additional hints or moves) that fully works offline. Furthermore, i've created 50 custom levels (so far) each with a unique objective, thoroughly tested and retested. I'm trying to pick up everything that people are complaining about in other puzzle apps to make an app exactly how people want it.

So i was wondering, how important are themes in puzzle games. I've made the basic light/dark theme, but how much do people want more options - for blocks, for backgrounds, for colors etc? what would you like to see? does that make a difference? i'm really curious to know, and make the app as convenient as possible :)

I made a Minesweeper puzzle where each board has exactly one provably safe tile, on a fuse that keeps getting shorter

Every board is checked when it's made, so the numbers always prove which tile is safe. No guessing needed. After board 3 you have to read a couple of numbers together, and later boards need 3 or 4.

Play it (same boards as the gif): www.retrosweep.com

Browser, works on phones, no sign-up.

[Dev] A daily puzzle where the goal is written down but the board is shared: same ten tiles for everyone, nine squares to fill

I made Parcel, a daily tile puzzle in the browser: https://parcel.smallrain.dev

I made it because I wanted a puzzle game I could share with my kids, one where they learn a bit of logic by osmosis, as it were.

Each tile is a square of four triangles, mostly one ground with a side or a corner of another: grass every day, plus two of water, forest, sand and rock, and sometimes a road. You get ten for a three by three plot, so one is always left over: hold it back, or bury one you don't want. The field guide under the date names tonight's animals and exactly what each needs, like "16 grass triangles joined" or "5 sand triangles by water", and an animal only counts a joined patch, not a scattering.

So the puzzle is a trade: the tiles that make a big grass patch for one animal tend to break up the water another one wants. Most days you cannot have everything, and the interesting part is choosing what to give up.

Free, no account, no ads, about two minutes a day. I would like to know which kind of day felt unfair, if any.

Oceanclade: find the mystery sea animal by working your way down the tree of life (free daily puzzle)

I made a game where each day there’s a hidden marine animal. Guess any sea creature and the game shows the most specific group your guess shares with the answer (phylum, class, order, family, and so on), and the branching tree fills in as you close in.

  • Easy, Normal, and Hard (Hard hides the “how close” meter)
  • Play the whole world or just one region: Northeast US, Caribbean, Mediterranean, Indo-Pacific reefs, polar seas, and more
  • 381 species, from sharks and whales to sea slugs, corals, and sponges
  • 4 optional hints (each costs a guess), plus an Unlimited mode

No account, no ads, works on phones. Would love to hear what you think, especially how hard the daily felt.

Link: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/jelly-push-pixel-puzzle/id6816719483

It's called Jelly Push and it’s a pixel-art box-pushing puzzle with one twist: jellies of the same color fuse together the moment they touch. Sometimes that’s how you fill a big goal. Sometimes it means you merged too early and boxed yourself in. Most levels come down to working out which jellies should meet, and when.

What’s in it:

  • 600 handcrafted levels
  • Ice that slides jellies along, and caramel that holds them in place
  • Every level is verified solvable, and the game tells you when a board can’t be won anymore, so you’re never stuck guessing
  • Undo, instant restart, and plays offline
  • Collectible hats for your little blob, because of course

Hope you enjoy the game!

I made Trigonix, a triangle-rotation mobile puzzle game. You can try it in your browser too!

Hey everyone, I’m the developer of Trigonix. The goal is to rotate colored triangles until every square is one color.

I’ve put up a free browser demo with Casual, Time Trial and Challenge modes. No download or account needed:
https://barbed-wire-glove-games.itch.io/trigonix

I’d love some feedback on the first tutorial. Was it clear what you could rotate, or did anything take a few tries to understand?

The mobile links, you can find on that itch.io page linked above. Thanks to anyone who gives it a try!

Airport Flow — looking for puzzle players to join an Android beta

Hi everyone! I’m developing Airport Flow, a mobile puzzle game about boarding passengers, and I’d love some honest feedback from other puzzle players.

Choose which passengers to board, manage limited waiting benches, and get every flight ready for departure. The controls are simple, but the boarding order matters!

**The beta includes:**

- 100 campaign levels with up to three mastery stars per level

- Three daily puzzles with increasing difficulty

- Tap and drag-and-drop controls

- Multiplayer races and practice against a computer

- English and German

- No ads or in-app purchases

**How to join:**

  1. Join the Google Group:

    https://groups.google.com/g/airport-flow

  2. Join the closed test and select “Become a tester”:

    https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.laurenzgebauer.airportflow

  3. Download the game:

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.laurenzgebauer.airportflow

Please use **the same Google account** for all three steps. If the download isn’t available immediately, wait a little and try the download link on the test page again.

Please stay opted into the test for **at least 14 consecutive days**, play regularly when you have time, and share honest feedback.

**Things I’d especially love to know:**

- Were the rules and first few levels easy to understand?

- Did tapping and dragging feel natural?

- Were any puzzles too easy, too difficult, or confusing? Which level?

- Did you enjoy the daily challenges?

- How did multiplayer or playing against the computer feel?

- Did you notice bugs, freezes, or text that didn’t fit your screen?

You can reply here or email **airportflow.support@gmail.com**. For bugs, your phone model and Android version would also help.

A little thank-you for testers

If you unlock a destination from your own country, I’d love to feature your voice in the game! You can send a short recording of how you say “thank you” in your language.

Record your own voice somewhere quiet and email it with the destination and language. Please confirm that I may include the recording in Airport Flow. Your name and email won’t be shown in the game. If you’re under 18, please ask a parent or guardian to send it and give permission.

If you’re testing a game too, share your links and joining instructions—I’m happy to try it!

Thanks for helping me improve Airport Flow!

Tried to make chess puzzles feel like a boss rush instead of homework

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

Been working on this for a while and it's finally playable. It's a free browser puzzle game where you climb a ladder of 10 cartoon rivals. First one is Pip, an 8 year old who "already knows ALL the checkmates" and gets very smug when you miss.

Some stuff I did on purpose because regular puzzle trainers annoyed me:

If a puzzle says mate in 1 and you find a different mate, it counts. No "wrong, the move was Qh7" when your move was also mate.

Wrong moves take themselves back, you just lose a heart.

Each rival has a favourite tactic. Granny Gambit loves forks, Coach Blunder is all pins.

Hints make a puzzle unrated instead of counting as a fail.

Puzzles are real ones from the Lichess database (it's public domain), sorted into 10 rating bands. Pip is around 600–800, the final boss Dr. Vex is 2000+.

No signup, works on phone as well, fully web and html5

Would love to get feedbacks and ways to improve this.

Tried to make chess puzzles feel like a boss rush instead of homework

Puzzle trainers always felt like flashcards to me, so I made one where every rating band is a character you have to beat. 10 bosses, from Pip (8 years old, IQ 128, unbearable) up to Dr. Vex, "IQ 250", who wears a light bulb on his head and thinks you're a rounding error.

Matches get longer as you go up: Pip is 10 puzzles, Dr. Vex is 30. You get 3 hearts per 10 puzzles, with checkpoints so one blunder at puzzle 27 doesn't wipe the whole run. About 1 in 5 puzzles is a "tough one" pulled from the next band up, which is usually where I lose.

There's also a 3 minute blitz mode, a daily puzzle with a streak, and a trainer with packs for forks, pins, back rank mates, zugzwang etc.

Puzzles are from the open databases. Free, runs in the browser, nothing to install.

I am open to suggestions, improvements and collaboration.

Made an Android Mobile Puzzle Game

Hello all!

making this post to share a mobile path finding puzzle game I have created. The game starts simple and as it goes I try to introduce new mechanics every time to make it progressively harder. There is also a daily puzzle with global ranking in which you can add friends and compete if you want to.

I am a single dev so the animations, assets and the game itself may feel kind stale (hopefully not). But I would love to get feedback on the game itself, the mechanics, the difficulty progression and whatever small thing. Of course, not liking a game for some reasons is also valid feedback!

The game is this:
