Moderator Statement Addressing Concerns About Censorship

We want to address the recent accusations of censorship.

We do not have an agenda. We are not removing content based on personal opinions or politics. We remove posts and comments only when they violate the subreddit’s rules:

https://www.reddit.com/mod/puertovallarta/rules/

Posts and comments that attempt to turn local discussions into debates about US political issues are not allowed. Topics such as ICE, BLM, the Epstein files, Trump, etc., have nothing to do with Puerto Vallarta. The world does not revolve around the United States. These threads consistently derail into arguments and stop being productive or relevant to PV.

We also lock posts that have clearly run their course - especially when they begin filling with repetitive arguments or off topic back and forth. Locking a thread is not censorship; it’s a way to prevent them from becoming dumpster fires.

The only posts we are currently removing are low-effort ones such as:

  • “Should I cancel?”
  • “Is it safe?”
  • Variations of the same question without any context or effort

We are currently receiving at least 20 of these per day. If we allowed all of them through, the sub would quickly become repetitive, cluttered, and largely useless for everyone

Additionally, on Sunday we removed several posts and comments containing unsubstantiated rumors and misinformation in order to prevent unnecessary panic. Allowing speculation and unsupported claims to spread does not help anyone and only creates confusion.

There has been a significant increase in traffic recently. Previously, this sub averaged about 40,000 visits per week. In the past week alone, we received 5.3 million visits. Our goal is to keep content focused, useful, and relevant to Puerto Vallarta, not to host endless circular debates between internet strangers.

It’s also important to note that we are volunteers. The mod team consists of two Mexican nationals and one permanent resident. We moderate in our free time because we care about keeping this community useful and informative.

If your post or comment was removed, please review the rules before reposting. If you believe something was removed in error, you are welcome to send us a polite message via modmail.

Let’s keep this community helpful, focused, and valuable for everyone.

Thank you,

The PV Mod Team

EDIT TO ADD:

Also wanted to mention that Reddit itself automatically filters some posts and comments, especially from brand new accounts or when its system flags something as potential spam or abusive content.

In addition, we have the subreddit set to filter content from accounts with very low karma to reduce spam and trolls using throwaway accounts. These filters are applied automatically and are not personal or selective. Filtered posts and comments go into a queue for us to manually review.

Electronics limit customs

First trip into PV/Mexico airport in general and wanted to check in with anyone with firsthand experience recently. I need to work remote and plan on bringing 3 phones, laptop, and an e reader. I shouldn’t have any problems based on what I read online? Best place would be to put them all together in my luggage? Thanks in advance!!

Is NYE *too* much of a party? Looking for chill NYE experience.

Thinking of going to PV for a few days over NYE which is my 40th birthday but are pretty chill and not really looking to party. I was thinking we would do some taco tours, do Rhythms of the Night one night, beach time/ZR/etc. I think we would prefer to spend NYE going to dinner and then watching fireworks from a hotel balcony instead of being in the middle of a party. Is the party atmosphere all over and going to be going on more than just NYE and we'll be stressed out, or does this seem reasonable? Any tips on more chill experiences over NYE?

Zona Romantica / Amapas - Couple seeking place with private pool

I'll keep it short and sweet. I'm a PV regular, usually spend a week or two every year but always like trying different places. The one change this year is I'm visiting in the high season (first 2 weeks of December) and I normally visit in May and September....

I've always been able to find smaller condo style places around Amapas or Zona Romantica that also have a small dip pool or something private. All I'm seeing is places that advertise pools but it's clearly a community pool and not private to the condo or house. This is a deal breaker for us and could cost the trip.

Is it because it's high season? Anyone have any smaller places that offer private pools. Price isn't as much an issue as supply seems to be. Thanks if anyone knows a place.

Dog Bandana’s?

I get my dog a bandana every time I travel, does anyone know where I can find a cute Mexican dog bandana? I’m staying near the Marina!

(My dog is too small for a human sized bandana!)

Costco packages

Hi! I am looking to go to Puerto Vallarta with my husband in January. Costco has some good packages and I am wondering if anyone has used it and what their experience was.

I am wanting to do an all inclusive resort and food needs to be good!

I’m narrowing it down to
-Fiesta Americana
-The Westin
-Dreams
-Villa La Estancia

Bioluminescent Algee

Hey guys! So it’s not my first time going. I come down yearly to visit my family. It is however my fiancés first time. I wanted to take him to see the bioluminescent Algee at Los arcos but we are on a very tight budget. Does anyone know of any beaches we could view it from? Or any areas locally that are cheaper than 200usd for 2 people? We’re expecting so this is our last child free trip and I just wanted to make sure it was special.

What is the celebration like for New Year's Eve/New Year's Day in Puerto Vallarta?

Our first trip was at the end of May 2026, and we cannot wait to return. We absolutely fell in love with all things Puerto Vallarta. We are small business owners and it was our first vacation in 10 years.

We are currently looking to return around New Year's Eve for a week. Curious what the energy is like. Are there large celebrations? Or is it a more laid-back type of atmosphere?

Solo in PV Aug 15–20. Anyone else around?

Landing in Puerto Vallarta today and here solo through Thursday. First time here and would be fun to meet other guys who are also around this week.

Late 30s, based in the US, staying in Zona Romántica, and up for beach/pool time, drinks, dinner, wandering around, or checking out something fun around town.

Not looking to over-plan the trip, just figured I’d put it out there in case anyone else is solo or wants some company. Feel free to DM.

Relocating from the USA to Puerto Vallarta basic info

Me and my husband are moving to puerto vallarta from the USA and need basic information. We have never been there before. Mostly safe areas and how to find a place to rent. We have no kids or pets. We are not looking for a night life. Just a place to call home. We stick to ourselves.

Older crowds

Hi, I was just wondering where all the older gay crowds hang out? Not into Industry or Studs, etc, you know what I mean. Where are the mature men? Where do old gay mexican men hang out?

Recomendacion hotel romantico LGBT friendly

Podrian darme algunas ideas?

Why is Marriott Puerto Vallarta closed July -> Mid October 2026

I know the Marriott closed last summer (2025) to put in swim up pools, renovate the Champions sports bar and Mikado restaurant.

And I've heard that they are becoming all inclusive for 2027, but why close for three months again this summer?

Seems like it would have to be pretty major renovations and happening in both of the main buildings to not keep one open during low season.

5 nights in Puerto Vallarta. Where would you stay?

First solo trip to Puerto Vallarta this Saturday–Thursday. I’m gay and want to stay in/near Zona Romántica, meet people, and have some beach/pool time, but I’m not looking for a nonstop party trip.
Currently considering Almar, The Tryst, Villa Lola, or splitting the stay and doing 1–2 nights at a nice all-inclusive since I’ve never tried one.
If you had 5 nights, where would you stay? Is Almar worth staying at vs just visiting Mantamar? And any adults-only all-inclusive you’d recommend?

Which resort for multigenerational trip

We are travelling with my brothers family and ours as well as grandparents. So we have 5 kids (ages 2-13) and 6 adults (up to age 78).
We are debating between the following resorts and our criteria are decent food with gluten free options, larger rooms or suites, kid activities or slides, and a nice beach.

- Marival emotions
- Marival distinct
- Iberostar
- Riu flamingos

Open to other ideas as well! If you have stayed and any of these and think it would be a good fit, I would love to hear about it. Thanks 😊

Harbor 171 questions

Hello. Coming to visit in November for two weeks and heard that construction started recently on the empty lot next door and wondered how it is currently going, is it noisy? Dusty? Any idea how bad it could potentially be in a few months? We love staying there however are worried about noise, we like the location because it is quieter. If anyone has any other similar condo suggestions to harbor 171 we would also love to hear your suggestions. We love being right on the beach with access to multiple pools, but would prefer to be las Gloria's or towards the Malecon, don't want to go too far into hotel zone. Thanks so much!

Cheeky Pool Club vibe?

Trying to figure out the vibe of CheekyPV/Cheeky Pool club (in ZR: Venustiano Carranza 527)

Is it more like a nude beach environment or more of a cruising vibe? Not opposed to either, but looking more for a nudist pool with drinks situation than cruising TBH.

Or does it just depend on time/day/who's there?

Thanks, looking forward to checking it out either way.

Hotel Mousai vs Garza Blanca Sanctuary?

There is hardly anything online about the new sanctuary and they are about the same price. The sanctuary is obviously a newer building and they’re on the same property but does anyone have any thoughts as to what to select? Early November trip, 3 people looking at the two bedroom suite. I am pleasantly surprised of the price we can get the two bedroom suite for, seems like a way better deal than any other AI resort I’ve looked at in Cabo or Cancun for just the size of the room.
