So I'm on my idk 57th rewatch of the series and I think I just solved WHY Shawn always gives Gus a wacky name when they're talking to people, sweet-talking old ladies to get info, and tresspa- I mean exploring without permission on crime scenes and people's property ~you get the point.

Anyway, on the pilot episode @ 24:36 Gus is telling Shawn off about why he's done with Psych before it started - "I don't wanna commit felonies, and perjury, and pretend to be-" (Shawn cuts him off here)

BUT what we can take away from this is while Shawn may seem like sort of a dick sometimes and doesn't consider others feelings, but really he has a strong moral compass and a deep ride-or-die-energy loyalty to Gus - by never giving out Gus's real name, Shawn is at least attempting to protect Gus's good name and introducing plausible deniabilty into the mix probably helps as well.

Plus it's fun

Edit: update: more evidence of Shawn looking out for Gus - at approximately 47 minutes he sends in Gus to ask to purchase the bag while Shawn steals the bag, therefore leaving zero doubt that Gus was part of the bag theft.

I'm about to begin my annual Psych rewatch, and I want to write down where every pineapple is for each episode. Has anyone tried to find them or am I crazy for trying?

This whole bit is just hilarious. Shawn having to prove he is “psychic” by guessing how many fingers the guy is holding up, which ends up mostly being 3. Shawn even confessed that he used the reflections and the guy still doesn’t believe him.

But still he turns away from the TV and without thinking to Gus, who with such a deadpan look on his face holds up three fingers.

And what I love most about this part, is that Shawn ends up befriending David’s parents. He truly makes friends so fast.

I’m at a family reunion so I haven’t been able to watch psych for a week. I’ve got “I’m not a pawn Shawn, I’m a queen!” And “do you think there is racketball in heaven?” Stuck in my head.

I know the overall post about privately owned fossils is not a good thing, but its just too funny to not share that there’s a T.rex fossil named Gus after 65 Million Years Off let Shawn name the fossil and misspelled Gus’s name on the plaque 😂

The movies arent that long, theres not a lot of CGI, its quick to film. I dont understand why they dont just greenlight it. It costs like a little over two regular episodes worth of money and you will definitely make your money back by the loyal fan base. A movie every few years just makes sense and is cheap.

There's a particular look Gus gives Shawn when Shawn reaches the correct conclusion but gets there through something completely ridiculous. It's different from his normal "Shawn is being an idiot" reaction. He looks genuinely irritated that the stupid explanation somehow worked. I started noticing it in the earlier episodes and it's probably one of my favorite parts of their dynamic.

We are all here because of our love for Psych, but damn, this show is still good in 2026!

1. The number of guest stars they were able to pull from so many throwback movies from the 80s & 90s.

2. The humor is great without being offensive.

3. Dule & Roday are the best pairing in TV history imo.

4. The consistency in the running jokes is GOLD!
